Would not be surprised if Brisbane snatch him. Medical department would be a huge selling point for him.

If he gets that he will roughly equal our highest paid players:  May and Lever the only Demons around that mark.  At a guess, Max might be getting close.

Huge risk for a perenniallt injured player.  It won't go down well if he breaks down next year, especially after our other big plays in the aforementioned May and Lever.  Not to mention it will deliver pick #17 to the Pies!

I agree. Not stating it as fact, just what I've heard.

It's the harsh reality of a basket case club who finished 17th trying to attract a good player from a big club.

Burgess would be a huge selling point for us.  It's a big move interstate and by the sound of things they haven't established a dialogue before now.  We are the one's to beat if he moves.

Don't underestimate this selling point for a player with a history of long term injuries like Elliott. Brisbane's almost non-existant injury list was not all luck.

Another selling point for Brisbane is the fact that they are miles ahead of us in terms of playing deep into finals. All we have to offer is dollars and I'm not sure we have the bank to keep a player from wanting to play finals footy.

At Elliot's stage of life it's all about contract term and dollars. At 26 this is his big signing.

Finals footy is just a cherry if other things are equal.

This is not the worst scenario. We COULD be dodging a huge bullet with this one. Don't get me wrong Eliott COULD be a massive asset to us if he plays every game and can maintain the 30 plus goal a year but he has never played a full season in his career and has missed 2 WHOLE years through injuries. We already have a cavalcade of perennially injured players. No need to pay overs for another.

Last two seasons:

Melbourne - Finals played 3 / wins 2 Losses 1

Brisbane - Finals played 2 / wins 0 losses 2

While we had a shocking year, to say they are miles ahead is ridiculous.

Just last season they finished with a total of 5 wins.

Brisbane have been an under performing mess for years and had one good year. So let the dust settle a bit. They also had the best injury run in the AFL and a great draw. yes they played very well but ultimately they finished lower than us last year.

Several credible posters here have said Hawks and Saints withdrew respective offers.  Both Elliot and Tomlinson upset at leaving their clubs.

Your point is valid but from that info it isn't MFCSS at least not on my part.

On withdrawing offers I don't think tbat is always an indication a club has cooled or how they rate a player. In most instances I suspect in principle  deals are done or close to being  locked  well before the trade period. Once it becomes clear to a club they are no longer in the race the logical play is to put it out there the club is not keen. Avoids stressing out supporters and creating an impression of a club no-one wants to go to and/or can't landcdeals.  Like the roos have experienced.

Being perceived as a club that gets deals done and gets the player it wants is helpful as well.

I always find it interesting as far as the difference in what a player will accept at different clubs.

ie - Let's say Elliot stays at the Pies for 500K when we've offered 750k. Says a lot about how the industry perceives us as a destination in my opinion.

Hmm, not sure that is the case at all LN.  It is pretty common knowledge that it is the dislodging players from their incumbant club that is what drives a higher wage.  The players by and large appear extremely connected to their existing club hence the need to loosen them with $$s (they are inherently team animals to begin with).  Obviously not all players are like that (Jeremy Howe & Dangerfield spring to mind) but most of them like to have a sense of belonging first and foremost

Yeah that's a great point. My example was more just about when it's such a huge difference in money though. Agree with your point also though.

Hawthorn now claiming they never spoke with Elliott.

“I heard us linked with Jamie Elliott but we haven’t spoken to him and his management,” he told hawthornfc.com.au’s trade podcast.

“Rumours go all over the place at this time of year and you can’t control it and if you try to answer them all it becomes a nightmare as well.”

No way hes getting offered 500k at the pies. I reckon thats what we have offered that over 3 years with a trigger for a 4th.

Effectively he will be taking on Jordan Lewis' Cash.

How could Elliott possibly let everyone at Collingwood know he wont be their next year while he still has to attend their BnF.

Can expect a decision next week.

It would be no surprise for them to miss finals next year. And every single AFL player would know that.

They had a big year, like us last year they have gone deeper than previously, which is a challenge for youngish list and they had dream run with injuries. Not much has to go wrong for them to drop off.

Take ANYTHING the Hawks say publicly with a grain of salt.  They've been stitching up opponents & umps on the field and all other clubs off it since the 70s.

He wants to go where? Melbourne? What?!? Righto then, we never spoke to him, he doesn't exist. Who are we talking about again? Jeremy? Jamie? Nup, no idea who you're talking about.

Saving Face. No one wants to look like they've missed out on a potential recruit to Melbourne! Why that would be heresy!

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
