I’m thinking he will announce his new contract with the Pies at the B&F tonight

Reckon it might be an opportunity to tell his team mates that he has played his last game for them, "love yous all, I'm outta here".

Agree. It's not like he's Grundy or Degoey. Yes, he is much loved at the club, but I don't see his contract as something important enough to be announced exclusively at the BnF. If he signs, they'll announce it straight away. The fact that Collingwood haven't upped their offer to 3 years is very telling. If he has re-signed already, he's also a brilliant actor, as he looked like a dejected man yesterday that was coming to terms with the fact he may be changing clubs.

I suspect that we'll know of his decision in the next 24 hours. He's leaving for a 2 week holiday tomorrow, so any deal would have to be done before then.

His interview sounded like a man going, rather than a man staying. Collingwood haven't increased their offer of 2 years. I believe that Melbourne have offered him 3 years with an option of a 4th. Everything I've heard in the last 24 hours has led me to believe that he is leaving, and that he'll most likely join us.

Just great!Ā  Another player who is desperate to stay at their club which won't do enough to keep them and other suitors have pulled out; Hawks pull out for Elliott as Saints did for Tomlinson.Ā  They come to us because we are the last ones standing.Ā  Not a ringing endorsement for us.Ā

According to Mahoney we have presented to Jamie a 3 year deal. Josh think we are a chance but also know that this is a big decision for Jamie and his future.

If he stays fit will be a great player for our club, i like we are trying to add players that can get us closer to a flag?

Seriously, if we land this guy and he can get through a full pre-season along with Lever, May and our full midfield brigade, we will be a very different look going into next year.

Can't help but feel he's going stay at the Pies though.

If Elliot stays he will have to take a fair bit less money. Players on big contracts at Collingwood:

Grundy (huge), Pendelbury, De geoy, Treloar, Beams, Adams, Sidebottom, D Moore.Ā  Even Howe and Cox, Crisp would be good coin

Compare that to us: Gawn, May, Lever, T Mac.

a few will be needing big contracts soon in Clarry, Gus, Trac etc

there is no way the pies can pay Elliot what we can even with Tomlinson and Ed coming

Just like Ebola, MFCSS has started to flare up again. Ā Is it a bridge too far to think that perhaps these players may have expressed a preference (behind closed doors)Ā to get to the Dees if theirown clubs won’t come to the party?

With this potentially being his last contract, I can't see him taking the below average wage and only 2 years. It's about his future after footy now. Plus, he may be pushed out if other players of a similar type step up.

Several credible posters here have said Hawks and Saints withdrew respective offers.Ā  Both Elliot and Tomlinson upset at leaving their clubs.

Your point is valid but from that info it isn't MFCSS at least not on my part.

Elliott's preference is a 3 year contract. Hawks are not likely to offer that due to Elliott'sĀ recent injuries and age.Ā

After the season we had and bringing in a new fitness guru we have to roll the dice. He kicks 30+ goals and plays a full 2020 seasonĀ then it is a win. Just don't want to pay too much for him as this could be his only contract with us.

Players will often say they are upset at leaving, so as to put the blame on the club and not upset the fans.

Regardless of whether we land him or not as has been mentioned on other threads by others and myself, I would also like to get if we could through the draft young Kysaiah Pickett or similar with a second roundĀ pick.

at the very least, we will make the pies do something they much prefer not to and extend his contract to 3 years.

Josh Mahoney chat this morning on Trade radio

Im a fan of this trade but my gut feel(FWIW) after watching & listening to him after his chat at Collingwood yesterday is that he willĀ stay there.

Pies can't keep everyone, especially with some of the players out of contract next year and the $$$$$$ demands that will be coming. I think they are trying to manage his exit to make the club look as good as possible.

There is a rumour that things didn't go too well in his interview with Walsh yesterday. Whether this is hearsay is another thing though. I slowly grew in confidence yesterday that we may get him with all the bits of info I received throughout the day.

See my above comment. I generally never publish rumours because they can never be guaranteed. It was just something I'd heard. Also, what really built my confidence was how Elliot looked when talking to the media, as well as Nine News saying that Hawks had dropped out.

Ā

I feel like Mahoney's comments involve things that he wouldn't have said if he wasn't confident about ElliottĀ

"We've got a 3-year deal in front of him", "we think we're a chance"

Just a hunch

Do we have any further information as to why the Hawks pulled out.

Possible reasons:

  • Told by Elliott & Co. that they are not in the running (Between Pies & Dees)
  • Know he will re-sign with Pies
  • No longer want him for <insert reason here>
  • Can't afford him with <insert player names here> potentially coming into the team

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
