Well .... After reading all responses

I would KEEP for another year

Clearly injured still not done cleverer and creative as anyone we have

GOOD LUCK JEFFY on your side son!

None of Stretch, JKH, ANB, Spargo or C Wags can win a one on one.  At least when he’s switched  on, Jeff can sneak up on them.  God I hope the new fitness guru brings in people who know strength and conditioning and can teach tackling.  We stink it up when there is heat.  What a sad season we’ve had...

Would you not also include Jeffy in that list, Meggs?

Ha probably but we’ve seen him provide forward pressure and he’s demonstrably quicker than my fab 5

I don't see the value - I'm not at all convinced he will deliver more than whichever turns out best of our little collection of 'junior' options.

For example, neither of Lochkart or Dunkley have even had an AFL pre-season, let alone an interrupted one.

I'd rather see a kid get chances than an unreliable (both form and injury) 30-year-old cling on.

Plus, need space for Viney to play forward pocket. ;)

If he is not getting a game now(in the last half of the year), what makes you think he will get a game next year?

I thought he was finished last year but 9 goals from 7 games means he was on track for a 30 goal season - even with a dodgy shoulder.   He is still a mile ahead of any other small forward we have so I would give him a performance based one year deal.  Lets not throw out the baby with the bathwater.

None left anyway.  All got drunk after our win over HFC last September

As I've posted a couple of times before, took personal leave late 2017 and when came back was way out of form for a good year and a half. This year played some "ok" games. Borderline for me.

South of the border for me.

Garlett should be delisted imo. I think we have to get games into Lockhart, Bedford, Spargo and Chandler next year to find out who is worth persisting with, and who isn't.

Lockhart useless

Bedford useless

Spargo useless

Chandler useless

Delist all four.

Get some real players in.

Happy to leave this one with the FD. I have vivid memories of his tenacious dangerous effect, defenders chitting themselves. As already noted came back from that personal leave and has struggled since, that injury this year has clouded where he's at even further. His age shouldn't be a problem due to his build, his head space is where it's at.

Delist:

Both Wagners, ANB, Spargo, Lockhart, JKH, Bedford, Chandler, Baker, Bradtke, Kolodjashnij, Jordon, Keilty, Nietschke, Oscar Macdonald, Stretch, Vandenberg, Walker. All VFL level or lower level, except Vandenberg who is eternally injured.

GET SOME ELITE PLAYERS into the team!!!!

He's not the only one, head space of all our list needs serious consideration.

Yep which is why all of the above need to be cleaned out

Stretch?? I saw him calling out for the footy by himself 100 meters of his man on other side of ground, Delist. ANB // Momentum killer of the highest order Delist, Both Wagners?? Useless! Spargo? Useless Delsit all.JKH?? Showed something but been around for too long without breaking out. Keilty? No Tim Smith?? No

Jeffy stays for easons articulated above!

We've got one small forward of AFL quality on the list. Garlett. Go back to the pre-season (before 1st shoulder injury) and he was first picked for that role. Early in the season also, first picked for that role until shoulder injury 2. No one has since proved they are superior to Garlett in that role. Most of the options named in previous posts struggle to get a kick at both AFL and VFL level, let alone be a goal scoring threat. Lockhart is the best of the bunch but I'd be grooming him as Nev's successor.

I get the whole forward pressure thing - Garlett may not tackle like Viney but he does, with his speed, apply pressure to opposition defenders. But if that's your main criteria then Jordie "Tackles" McKenzie would still be on the list

The best form of pressure has always and will always be scoreboard pressure. Garlett's our only small forward who can regularly kick goals. We'd be mad to turf him out without a ready made replacement

I actually thought Chandler was Ok v Sydney, he is the only small forward this year that actually laid inside 50m tackles.  The rest, Lockhart needs to be moved to back pocket, back up/replacement for Nev Jetta.  Spargo, small and slow, if you are small you need to be quick and hard as nails, ANB isn't a forward you would hate being a forward with him kicking the ball to you.

Gut feel is he might retire.

But please can we stop with the incorrect statements, he leads our entire club for average tackles inside 50.

Also happens to be our leading average goal kicker.

Let's open both eyes and be grown up when talking about him hey.

Not sure either of those stats are anything to celebrate this year, his tackle and goal averages were well down on his god years with the club (2015-17). He's only managed 7 & 11 games in the last 2 seasons, this year mainly because of injury, and he's just turned 30. Not many smaller forwards have gotten any better once they pass the 30 mark, Eddie Betts who's been he best small forward of the last 10 years saw his numbers drop off a fair bit when he past 30 (to the point where he was dropped and is talked about as trade bait).

So I think you're on the money with the feeling he'll retire, but if not I think the club might take that decision out of his hands.

Oh yeah, not trying to say he's been sensational, more just trying to tell people to lighten up on the criticism as some seem to enjoy going way overboard with it when the reality is not as black and white.

Seems to be the way on here at the moment, either the criticism or the love for a player is way over the top. Not much rational thought put into any discussions.

That's 18 players, so I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume that you don't mean all 18 at once. Even after free agency and trading, that would still likely leave us with about 12-14 picks at the draft. I'm not sure there's a lot of elite talent for the 6-8 picks we'd have in the 100s.

I assume those that are in a hurry to get rid of Garlett are happy with C Wagner as our number 1 small forward in round 1 2020...

I would hope we could trade someone in for that role, or maybe draft a kid who is physically ready.

  • NON-MFC: Round 06

The Easter Round kicks off in style with a Thursday night showdown between Brisbane and Collingwood, as both sides look to solidify their spots inside the Top 4 early in the season. Good Friday brings a double-header, with Carlton out to claim consecutive wins when they face the struggling Kangaroos, while later that night the Eagles host the Bombers in Perth, still chasing their first victory of the year. Saturday features another marquee clash as the resurgent Crows look to rebound from back-to-back losses against a formidable GWS outfit. That evening, all eyes will be on Marvel Stadium where Damien Hardwick returns to face his old side—the Tigers—coaching the Suns at a ground he's never hidden his disdain for. Sunday offers two crucial contests where the prize is keeping touch with the Top 8. First, Sydney and Port Adelaide go head-to-head, followed by a fierce battle between the Bulldogs and the Saints. Then, Easter Monday delivers the traditional clash between two bitter rivals, both desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top end of the ladder. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • REPORT: Essendon

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.
