players not to suit up in afl in 2019 (so far):

  • bedford
  • vandenberg (injured all year)
  • jordon
  • nietschke (injured all year)
  • joel smith (injured all year)
  • maynard (rookie)
  • walker (cat b rookie, injured all year)
  • bradtke (cat b rookie)

avb and j smith obviously played in preseason

just extraordinary how low we're scraping that barrel

When people are critical of our depth I always think about this. Nobody has quality depth down to the 40th man. Hopefully Chandler proves to be a gem. Lord knows we need one

Some players play better in the seniors than the 2s.. this may be the case.

Here’s the club video for Chandler’s debut for those interested.

No candid cameras or teary phone calls to Mum, just a neat interview.

I can't see it but hey, good luck to the kid.

Maybe we're just trying to see if we have any small forwards that will offer something at AFL level before the draft/trade period.

...but me, I would be looking for at least 2 from other clubs and not the also rans.

Targeted offers.

I would look at Dan Butler from Richmond.

Grossly out of form and has lost his spot in the seniors.

However was a key contributor in their 2017 flag year with 30 goals.

Nothing wrong with giving the kid a taste. If he gets badly beaten or overwhelmed, he then has a clear idea how hard he still has to work.

If he plays a good game then he knows next year is a real chance.

Mmmm, but if you extrapolate that logicto TMAC - he is only a one season wonder ;)

Debuting a kid just before seasons end is pretty standard procedure isn’t it? Kade will go into the next pre-season knowing exactly how hard AFL players run and what is expected. It will be a handy eye opener for him. It is about next year and how he performs tomorrow night is pretty much irrelevant

Give him a taste and get that potentially horror debut out of the way and isolated from next season.

Petty had probably the worst debut in history in R15 last year, possibly premature,  he went away to work on things and has come back looking the goods.

Jordon will make it, they’re just building him up. I reckon he’ll replace Hibberd.

Agree. Kid has talent and is getting better with each game.

I am staggered he is getting a game, given his season so far, however, that said, I am happy for him and hope he goes ok.

I suppose with so many injuries and other players out of form and being late in a horrible season, it is the perfect chance to blood a couple of guys and give then a taste of the big time.

Good luck to the young fella. I hope he goes well but looks a bit Spargo like.

Well done Kade on your debut.

A great kid who is small (174 cm) but quick. Noted at U18 for his forward defensive pressure so I can see why he is being tried even if others cannot.

Early season at gate 3 handing out scarves we were swamped and the players who came to just to meet and greet actually hopped in and assisted. If my memory serves me well It was Kade, Billy, Oscar Baker and Jordon or Walker (memory failing). Kade was first to put his hand up and took up a role immediatly at the table with many a supporter being handed their scarve by this young man. Similarly Oscar Baker was assisting organising the queue with Stretch & Jordon was behind the counter unpacking. They stayed way past their scheduled time and impressed me greatly with their character and  willingness to work. Kade looks so young but will now have payed at least 1 game of AFL more than I ever did.

I was wondering how we were going to lose this game. No surprise, we are going to lose it at selection again, just like the last couple. If you don't pick players who are ready and have earned it, don't expect to win. Should be a funny game to watch as I think both teams will be trying to lose it.

who said we want to win?

Many of the fans on Demonland seem to think we were going to win a lot more than we have. I don't think we have picked a team to win for months.

We saw Corey & Big Pole Pruess basically give a zero result against the Tigers a few weeks back.  Melk the same against the Pies.  Hasn't really shown he is ready yet at VFL level but with such a shitty season why not!

One of the senior boys needs to get hold of him and have a short word though.  It ain't just another game of footy i'm afraid.  The step up may come as a huge shock if he doesn't come in with the right mind set.  He may not get too many opportunities at this level.  Even if only shows something for half a game....make sure that something counts and play out of your skin son!  Good luck....hope the boys are excited and get around him on the night.

You must be fun to talk footy with.

Our 39th player to play this year.  far out.  only really Bedford and Jordon that have missed out.  impossible to give the season a crack when only 8 players play the full year

Go Kade!   give it a crack

39th player....what an indictment on the year

we have really struggled with depth this year, with vfl players being elevated without (real) merit, then the consequent need to just try another one, then another one......makes one wonder about development and recruiting

That is amazing. We have played nearly every available player this year.

As a matter of interest, how many did we play last year?

Sorry, I did not think the demons have been playing much footy. Maybe a few minutes here and there but not enough to win. I am not here for blind faith and if you don't like how I see it, I am more than happy to talk about it. I don't come here to pray on hopes and dreams, I call it how I see it. There is more advantage in not winning another game this year and I hope it is what we do. It is not about the football this year anymore.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The winds finally returned to Casey Fields for the Demons’ third home game of the VFL season, and its impact was immediate. After two opening rounds played in uncharacteristically fine conditions, the Anzac Day clash brought back the familiar gusty conditions that have been a feature of the region at this time of the year.
Forced to kick into the breeze first, the slow-starting Demons faced a tricky opening against an enthusiastic young Tigers outfit. Casey responded by turning the contest into a scramble, pressuring Richmond into errors and missed targets. The tactic proved crucial, keeping the game tight for three and a half quarters before the Demons pulled away with the autumn wind at their backs.

  • REPORT: Richmond

It seemed as if the whole purpose of the Anzac Eve clash at the MCG between the Demons and the Tigers was building toward that single, unforgettable moment when Kozzie Pickett soared above Campbell Gray and all but fittingly etched his name onto the face of the 2026 Frank ‘Checker’ Hughes Medal.
