The AFL should offer Ben King a $1 million dollar bonus (on top of his salary) if he re-signs with GC next year, rather than giving them pointless draft picks.

I'm sure it's in jest, but obviously this would set a ridiculous and unsustainably, unfair precedence.

Really, they need to get the best assistants and FD people in the AFL and run the place properly. Make finals for a number of year and win a flag and good players will stay. Players want 3 things mainly: money, success and mates/culture.

Offer Pick 3, and when they say [censored] off,  add next years second round to let them know we mean business.

Why not offer it now? It's pretty clear he is not staying with them, and he looks the goods.

Who says we haven't already?

Personally and i know some would disagree strongly with this, but i would offer pick 3 and our 2020 first rounder if it would get us Ben King on a long term deal.

I see him as being one of the better forwards around for 10 years, will make an impact right away and take a lot of pressure off Tommy and Sam.

Absolutely agree mate.

The question is does Ben King want to end up at Melbourne and is he really that good?

Agree Elwood, i think he could become a good KPF, but i think through all the hysteria, we may be overrating him just a tad.

God help him if he does come to us, he'd be expected to kick 10 every week.

Pretty sure we told the king family we would take him if the may deal didnt happen. Hope this doesnt now work against us.

Dogs are now into him for 2021 and some believe he and his brother would be better served, playing at different clubs.

GC List Manager says they have some confidence he will sign an extended contract with them, at some stage next year.

and how do you better the inevitable offer from North of X million a year for life !!

As an aside whatever happened with the South Australian guns from the 2018 draft that the SA clubs said they would poach in 2020?

Did they end up being drafted to SA or are they waiting to come home next year?

Thanks

Try not exaggerate to much mate, we'd settle for 8 each week or 4 with 5 assists??

How would that work with Round 1 pick rules though?

Port traded up to get Rozee.

Rankine signed an extension until 2022, not entirely convinced it means he stays, he might just need the financial security after missing all of this year with injuries.

Lukosius is in the same boat as Ben King. I expect the Crows in particular will be circling.

No way ben king is worth pick 3

he was pick 6 in a stronger draft, is a KPP and has only enhanced his reputation. Pick 3 would be a minimum

Wonder if we would be better off going after Jack Lukosius. Whispering Jack posted an article in another thread that suggested clubs thought he was gettable (in reference to end of next year if I remember correctly) and would be open to moving to vic.

The Vic club that lands Ben King is going to be the team to beat for the next 10 years!

So I hope it is us!

Pick 3 and more I don’t care... Get it done Dees!

for anyone saying pick 3 for king... we need to use a first rounder this year. gahhhh

Presumably we could trade pick 3 and say a second round pick next season (or a player this year like hunt) for king and one of gc's first round picks (obviously not one and two but they have 15 and presumably will get another for martin) Which we then use this year.

Double gahhhh!

I can't tell if you're obsessed with Ben King or mentioning him in each thread to be annoying.

To be fair, WB, this is the Ben King thread

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
