They have a raft of young talent and if well coached, retained and developed, GC will rise up the ladder quickly, with the addition of several experienced players they apparently are securing this off season.

    I think that's about the mark for Crouch, Crow's may push for something else in return, but the major question mark with Crouch is durability. They'll probably ask for Lukosious. GC will be on the improve pretty quickly.

    I was in the boat that we keep pick 2 for Anderson. Now that we are not getting it I would talk to GWS about splitting this pick. They need an early pick for Green.

    Give them pick 3 and our 3rd for there 1st two picks and maybe a Xavier O' Halloran or Jye Caldwell.

    I don't think Ben King will head back to Melbourne this year. If he decides to then i would be all for giving the suns pick 3. That would give the sun pick 1,2 and 3 in the draft.

    Same as when we got priority picks.. the next teams lose out. Its a stinker of a concept and im dirty at it as well but its the AFL rule son the run and not a lot we can do about it.

    SUNS need the help, they are a long way off any success and money has been invested in that side, they need all the help they can get.

    Splitting the pick will take us out of the top 10, i dont think that's good enough, to give up pick 3 position, we would need to get back inside the top 10, possibly top 8, but cant see that happening now.

    Take pick 3, get Young a beautiful left footer who moves well, take Langdon, take Tomlinson, go hard for Elliott. its a good hand.

    Let them perish. It’s a dumb idea. Two teams in a Rugby League state. The AFL is run by money hungry morons who are wrecking the game. Next we’ll have a team based in China or Sierra Leone.

    The AFL should have also helped Fitzroy and South Melbourne and they didn't.

    Our record was much worse than gc's when we applied for a pp a few years back. All the reasons given for our rejection can be applied to gc. AFL making it up as they go as usual. Disgraceful. And MFC wont say a word about it.

    It is what it is, if it helps them then fair enough, if not then we can attempt to trade for Rowell or Anderson in 2 years time.

    Have a shot at Ben King, if that doesn't come off i'd try and bring in a Young/Ash along with Langdon, Tomlinson and possibly Elliott.

    Unless the deal is too good to refuse, i wouldn't 'split' the pick.

     

    What upsets me the most is that we are in the position of being affected by not getting the #2 draft pick in the first place (we shouldn't be anywhere near the bottom of the ladder, and yet we are).

    2012 priority pick reform https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Priority_draft_pick#Priority_round_history

    Despite the best efforts of the AFL, the priority draft pick became controversial in the late 2000s and early 2010s because of the potential for corruption, as it could be automatically awarded based on the performance of the club over the past two seasons with a defined cut-off point (16.5 premiership points or four wins).

    In the 2012 pre-season, the AFL, with the unanimous support of the 18 clubs, removed the provision for priority picks automatically based upon finishing results, and with the AFL commission retaining the power to award priority picks on a discretionary basis.[1]

    To allow for this situation, a formula has been developed that takes into account such factors as:

    • premiership points that a club has received over a period of years (with greater weight to recent seasons),
    • a club's percentage (points for/points against x 100) over a period of years (another indication of on-field competitiveness, with greater weight to recent seasons),
    • any finals appearances that a club has made in recent seasons,
    • any premierships that a club has won in recent seasons, and
    • a club's injury rates in each relevant season.

    To eliminate the perception of tanking, the formula for priority picks is kept confidential by the AFL Commission.

     

    2012 we won 4 matches (2 against GWS who had just come in)

    2013 we won 2 matches (1 against GWS and 1 vs WB by 3 points)

    2014 we won 4 matches (expansion teams beat us lol).

    End result = 10 wins from 66 matches, 3 against GWS which probably doesn't count. But we did have Hogan in the VFL and Clarke was injured at the time (and never came back/injured/traded).

    I'm bitter that they get the pick, as i want equality. If they then trade it for say Brad Crouch i'll be even more annoyed (give them pick 10/11 instead - which they can give to Adelaide in that case - not hurting the bottom teams who missed the 8). This could be a very quick turnaround for them considering all the injuries they have #GCPremiers2020???? :P

    I don't get it. Why do we keep getting screwed? How does it work?  Don't we have a representative on the board (or whatever they call this monstrosity that keeps fu#$*ing us? )

    I'm a twenty year member, a fifty year supporter and I'm close to bowing out of the whole corrupt shebang 

     

    The AFL is typified by the slimy spiv Demetriou and his post-AFL career (for those who don't know he was on the board of one of those rip-off private education companies that were exploiting the poor and disabled - should be in gaol but i presume he's lolling around his Toorak mansion getting fat)

    The thing is, none of the other sides care because it isn't happening to them. Simple as that. But the AFL are deadset corrupt.

    I actually think the fact that Rowell and Anderson Both come from the Chargers and are close mates has pushed this decision over the line.

    The AFL want players to stay up there and this is their best chance to do so.

    I truly believe if the top 2 prospects were from different states, the decision would be different.

    I spoke to someone involved at Oakleigh on the weekend and he believes the Suns may specifically target Chargers players this draft for this very reason.

    What went against us was that we went through a lengthy investigation for tanking during that time.  And of course tanking is directly related to priority picks.  The sweetener is that we got pick 2 for Frawley in 2014 which sorta/kinda glossed things over.

    Given the climate we were never going to be given a priority pick.  Of course,  a stack of other clubs tanked on numerous occasions (a total of 30+ times?) but it was better to scapegoat us rather than go after any other club.  Please the masses.

    We had no friends at the top either. 

    Probably best to move on really and what we need to do is find a way to build a great list despite all the restrictions.  Just find a way.

    I've put my thoughts forward in the last few days along with many others but we need the club to be expansive with their ideas & actions ... re recruiting.

    In simple terms we need to build a great list ... by hook or by crook.  We need to develop a ruthless edge in the process.  And it looks like we've finally cottened on to Free Agency.  That's taken a while.

    GWS will be involved as well! Keen to get there hands on the Dees Pick and will pay the price. 

     

    nah, we had our chance last year but went May,  when he comes home, and i mean when not if, he will get to the saints, even if the whole club has to move back to seaford.  only half joking.

    We were in a PF 12 months ago. We are screwing ourselves, not the AFL.

    Chances are (going on previous draft history) the best kid in the draft won't come from the top 2 picks, thus we have a chance of drafting him with the #3 pick (not that i think we will have much luck there either - but you never know).

    With so many places to fix on our list, the difference between pick 2 & 3 will be negligible if our aim is to improve our team as a whole.

      Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

      Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.
