6. Gawn - great again against a very promising opponent. 8 marks, 18 possessions, 40 hit outs, all class

5. Petracca - 3 goals and 20 possessions, always a danger

4. Harmes - another workmanlike job.

3. Oliver - quiet in the second but otherwise a good game

2. Lever - disposal was shoddy but 9 marks

1. Salem - best of the rest probably

Petracca - easily bog for me. For the amount of opportunities he had it was a great game.

Bitterly sad to see a once in a generation ruckman carry this pathetic excuse of a footy side.

With the exception of these four, the remainder of the team either played a two sided game with two many flaws/turnovers or were completely shizen.  Some were a mile off AFL level tonight.  Unfortunately Oskar Baker was virtually unsighted with only three effective disposals, four turnovers and one miserly tackle.

Do people just automatically put Gawn as the best player? Not a huge influence in my opinion

6 votes is way to many for this mob, it’s to hard most weeks to find 6 good players

Go back and have another look at the game.  18 disposals at 83% plus 8 marks as well as double digit hit outs to advantage and 40 hit outs in total against a very decent opponent.  He is carrying this side at the moment. The problem he has is that the benchmark he has set is now so ridiculously high that he needs to be twice as good as his opponent to be considered to have had an influence.  Imagine what last night would have looked like without him (you got a brief glimpse when Bruce kicked two of his goals playing in the ruck against Smith).

Without Frost & Lever we would have gone down by 60 points.................!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Every one of the above has played better games than they played last night and all made mistakes or were poor in patches, but in my view, they were still better the remaining 16 players.

  • PREGAME: Rd 18 vs North Melbourne

  • POSTGAME: Rd 17 vs Adelaide

The Demons were wasteful early before putting the foot down early in the 2nd quarter but they chased tail for the remainder of the match. They could not get their first use of the footy after half time and when they did poor skills, execution and decision making let them down.

  • WHAT’S NEXT? by The Oracle

What’s next for a beleagured Melbourne Football Club down in form and confidence, facing  intense criticism and disapproval over some underwhelming recent performances and in the midst of a four game losing streak? Why, it’s Adelaide which boasts the best percentage in the AFL and has won six of its last seven games. The Crows are hot and not only that, the game is at the Adelaide Oval; yet another away fixture and the third in a row at a venue outside of Victoria. One of the problems the Demons have these days is that they rarely have the luxury of true home ground advantage, something they have enjoyed just once since mid April.
