We’re walking a tightrope here. Once this team heads into its inevitable decline ...hopefully not for a few years yet tho... our good players will leave to clubs in the window.  with crap facilities we will not be able to attract players to replace them. This period , now, is when we HAVE to make something happen or we will b royally screwed.

No one has come out and said it yet, but fair to say we can Mark pert down for his first fail.

lot of love for the old Punt road but I just don't think it will cut the mustard as a training facility in twenty years time.

The trouble with Olympic park is that there are space constraints and heritage overlays from some of the 1956 buildings. There's a reason the Pies will be moving

What about the Docklands idea????

wind off the bay and the cost of the land could be issues.....

Mind you a train ride to Footscray/Newport reveals a lot of old seemingly underutilised industrial land.

In the eighties and even today there was a big push for building something and then selling the surrounding land at a profit. Bond University on the Gold Coast and the myriad of golf course developments around the world were examples. I wonder if we could get a developer to build around a training facility. Stranger things happened in the 80's I can assure you.

To be fair how is this Perts failure?

This aint I dream of Jeannie!

Harsh!

Yeah, I probably was being harsh. But they went very public with the Yarra park idea and it was obviously half cooked at best. my understanding is that pert was pushed to the head of the queue , partly because it was believed he could get these kind of things across the line. He  went public and it flopped. That’s got to b a fail.

Bottom line I  feel the urgency to start this project while the club finally has a bit of currency again  ....and he’s the dude holding the reins. Imo yarra park just wasn’t a great start.

But, I’m one of the ones who thought ( prior to the Geelong game) that  weid wouldn’t make it too.... so I will pray to  be as wrong in this area as I was in that one.

Settle down Wells

good Business deals take time to nurture and settle.

Gary Pert has been in the chair for less than 6 months. I don’t care if it takes 2-3 years to sign a deal, as long as it is an A Grade situation

Like the Pies and Vic Park the Tiges have outgrown Punt Rd.

The oval is only Docklands size & they've already extended it to it's maximum to get that.

I would expect an announcement of a move in the next year or 2.

They will build elsewhere and move on...

I would have Punt Road as a training base without hesitation. Anything else will be further away from our actual home, and there is no guarantee we could get a bigger plot of land (that we arent forced to share) anyway. If Richmond ever wants to sell, i would jump at it.

I think we often look at the fully formed C/wood centre and wonder what could have been.

...but like him or not, without McGuires political savvy & vision they wouldn't have been able to develop that ground & in turn the facility they have.

Say if we did get the building I think we would probably still be arguing about where our training ground would be and the athletes would still be training at Olympic Park...

A cynical view rjay but probably true.

Yes, probably true. Because there is no way we would have had the clout or connections to shove out the athletes and claim the oval.

Olympic Park was supposed to be the one true permanent home of athletics in Victoria.

In 2006, to commemorate the 50-year anniversary of the 56 Olympics, there was a considerable refurbishment of the area, hence "Olympic Boulevard", with lots of goodwill about the permanent home of athletics, and other Olympic-related vibes. Statues, a mooted new stadium (turned out to be AAMI), etc.

But then a board member of Athletics Australia got the idea that AA would be better off in South Melbourne. Got in the ear of the premier.

Somehow along the way Melbourne City Council ceded title to the State (ie, Victoria).

Lo and behold, within two years, AA was out of their permanent home, shifted to Bob Jane stadium, with promises of new digs there, and now there's barely anything "Olympic" about "Olympic Boulevard". It's all tennis and various codes of football. [*]

By the way, the board member was none other than Eddie McGuire. And the premier was John Brumby, a keen Collingwood supporter.

[*] and who can forget when a certain prominent Toorak businessman suggested moving an entire tennis stadium to make way for (guess what) more football.

Was it Pert on the MFC podcast towards end of year who said they had a consultation firm (whatever that means) review every piece of available land in Melb.

This isn’t just a “let’s ask about this piece of land, nope oh well what about that one of there” type approach. They have spending a huge amount of time to get this right.

So the facilities at which Collingwood train are in for yet another multi-million dollar upgrade.

Meanwhile we are still homeless.

Any news at all?

Anyone?

All other clubs have new or updated their facilities, and of course we sit around now then with a yelp and ask please sir, three bags full sir, can we have some money for a new home, and we all know what is said. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. And away we go with our tail between our legs, once again.

Winning on and off the field.

So much winning.

Im tired of our club winning so much.

All we do is win win win.

Winners.

I can’t believe Bill Shorten has promised the Pies a $70Million upgrade of their Olympic Park facilities, including a “Women’s Sports hub”! (As reported on the front page of this morning’s Herald Sun ) > This doesn’t inspire me to vote Labor! ?

I reckon the loss of the Jolimont option is all down to Pert. He came out all gung ho pre state election and gave Dirty Dan the option to say no to appease the East Melbourne lobby.

I am not sure whether the option is lost at all! No applications have been lodged so there have been no refusals. Dan has no love ideologically for the (so-called) “East Melbourne lobby”.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
