We should build the facilities and make Collingwood pay for it.

I say we ask our better to do members to cough up the money. Last i checked, Eddie McGuire is a member of the MFC (as he is with all Victorian clubs).

I say we ask him to foot the bill!

I know it's only early February, but I can't see how anything else is going to surpass this comment for post of the year.

After being on the wait list for approx 13 years, it only took 2 attendances in the MCC to realise that it was too upper class for my liking.

I much prefer slumming it with the rest of my riff-raff brethren in the southern stand.

There are plenty of poorly dressed, ill educated bums in the MCC and you don't have to look far to find them. As long as they're drinking copious amounts of way overpriced beer, the MCC is happy. If you'd waited a little bit longer, the standard would have fallen to a level more to your liking DD.

So more money for poor old Carlton. State gov offered $20m and Federal Gov has now come through with $15m for Ikon Park.

Any chance someone will flick us a bit?

I actually see this as good news. Governments are showing preparedness to cough up if there's a legitimate project. All we need to do is get all the right ducks in a row and the dollars should be forthcoming.

Between audio failures yesterday, i heard snippets of G.Pert talking about the plan for our HQ and Social club. I missed most of what he said because of the dud audio, and it was mostly during the half time break, which the replay footage missed.

Did anyone hear what he said, and was anything new spoken about this?

After seeing what the 'Pies have, im bloody jealous.

We desperately need a permanent home and training ground, and the Social Club is a must, sooner rather than later.

This has been talked about every year since Barassi returned in 1981.

Training Base and Social Club.

The problem is... no one has the foresight to plan for it to arrive in 5 years.

Past Boards and management have been asleep at the wheel on this objective.

Olympic park should never have happened.

Quieter than the grave. Next news will be not long before the next AGM.

Yeah  update is, leave this tread and the plan dead and buried, not going to happen.

Was it in fact the Gutnick Board that passed on the Lexus centre or another MFC Board?

It certainly wasn’t solely Gutnick if it was offered during his time at the club, that is for sure.

I think we often look at the fully formed C/wood centre and wonder what could have been.

...but like him or not, without McGuires political savvy & vision they wouldn't have been able to develop that ground & in turn the facility they have.

Say if we did get the building I think we would probably still be arguing about where our training ground would be and the athletes would still be training at Olympic Park...

A cynical view rjay but probably true.

It was during the Gutnick Board. We had first call and stayed at the Junction Oval..

madness

This option is dead not so much because it is impossible but because its implementation will involve so many compromises that if it ever gets off the ground it will be  a less than adequate facility compared to those of other clubs.

Time to go back to the drawing board and think again.

I would not be surprised if Collingwood moves to something bigger and better in the next ten plus years. They have to spend their money on something.  Richmond could bite the bullet and do the same.

The likes of Esssendon and the big interstate clubs have given us a glimpse of where the training facilities of 2030 and beyond are heading.

I've been thinking along similar lines 'Diamond'...

Whilst I fully get the romance of being around the 'G' the practicality may not match.

It's only a matter of time until the Pies & Tiges move on...

Not sure what the time frame is rjay but What about Pies to the docklands and Dees to Olympic park? Cannot see the Tigers going anywhere.

We’re walking a tightrope here. Once this team heads into its inevitable decline ...hopefully not for a few years yet tho... our good players will leave to clubs in the window.  with crap facilities we will not be able to attract players to replace them. This period , now, is when we HAVE to make something happen or we will b royally screwed.

No one has come out and said it yet, but fair to say we can Mark pert down for his first fail.

lot of love for the old Punt road but I just don't think it will cut the mustard as a training facility in twenty years time.

The trouble with Olympic park is that there are space constraints and heritage overlays from some of the 1956 buildings. There's a reason the Pies will be moving

  • PREVIEW: Collingwood

Way back in March we contemplated the possibility of a Demon resurgence after Simon Goodwin’s summer of love. Many issues at the club had seemingly been addressed, key players were returning from injury and a brand new day was about to dawn. We imagined the coach pulling a rabbit out of a hat. The team would roar up the charts, push aside every opponent and make its way to a Grand Final ending in ultimate triumph with Goody and Max holding the premiership cup aloft under a shower of red and blue ticker tape.

We’re back! That was fun. The Mighty Dees’ Season 10 campaign is off toa flying start with a commanding 48-point winover the Western Bulldogs, retaining the Hampson-Hardeman Cup in style. After a hard-fought first half in slippery conditions, the Dees came out in the second half and showcased their trademark superior class, piling on four goals in the third termand never looked back.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
