We are the laughing stock of the AFL & if it wasn't for GC we would finish last!

Lived through so many embarrassing periods since the 70s & this club just continues to find a way to bring misery to its members/supporters!

Heads need to roll from our conditioning staff,  to our coaches & serious questions of our leadership inc Goodwin on how such a fall has occurred!

Pert will need to show what his made off & make the changes needed or the misery will continue!

Whats another year in  5 decades!

Just another decade of misery to continue!

“Oh Father Oh Father....The shame....”

It's alright though! We've had injuries, and there's always next year! Besides, pick 2 on the horizon! Look on the bright side! Goodwin is the man! etc etc

In all honesty, the further the season progresses, the worse it gets.

We're going to finish below Carlton. I don't give a [censored] what the variables are. Or how many injuries we've had. It's abhorrent. It's a [censored] disgrace where we are.

Goodwin should be presenting and raising the stakes for his own and the team's KPIs for 2020. He and is football department have utterly destroyed the fabric, albeit thin one, that had been established by Roos and Jackson. I can accept a drop after 5 years of linear growth consider where we were. But where we are now...it's inexcusable. Jones, Gawn, TMac, Lewis should be embarrassed. Leadership onfield has been pathetic.

I'm giving Goodwin 16 matches to turn it around. And that's generous considering how much of a [censored] mess this team is in right now.

"Heads need to roll..."

That's just what we need, another long term injury.

It is already known the we will finish 14th, we should've known it in the pre-season. It is just what we do after winning a final.

But my question is, how did we react in 1999? What will it take to follow up this 20-year anniversary with going one better next year?

At least we can be pretty confident that overall the club is doing much better than its on and off-field horror show of 1999.

Yep well you need to be modestly okay to even compete in this league these days, Goff. The AFL in 1999 was still in that transition to full time professionalism, and Daniher was battling the ever-lingering political mudslinging that was the MFC board. Not to mention the lingering stink of salary cap issues, and the loss of Lyon and injuries to White and Viney. Will never forget Modra lighting us up for 10 goals at the MCG and Freo's first ever win there. How distinctively "Melbourne" that night was.

Fortunately for that team a lot of the important stats tracked today weren't being tracked in 1999 but I suspect the drop off this year has been far more significant, given we are 17th-18th in some stats that we were 1st-2nd in last year.

Daniher was also brutally honest and hurt when the fan hurt. Goodwin appears to shrug a lot off the shoulder. Appears the Crows arrogance is thick within him. Never his fault. Never in the wrong. Always "something else". Actually, he fits in at Melbourne.

We are better than that 1999 team. And we are better than 17th.

How will 2019 be defined?

Despite the injuries our effort or lack there of has been unacceptable. Essenscum were without 6 - 8 of their top 22 but found a way to win last night. We started the year with a poor attitude, our game plan was found out and the coaches have been asleep at the wheel. Very disillusioned.

Our skill have been the biggest issue all season and it hasn’t improved as the season has gone on.

We are supposed to be a professional footy club but unfortunately we are the biggest amateur club in the afl.

We are pathetic and it’s not acceptable.

Wait for all the excuses or reasons to flow from some posters.

I am just sick and tired of not being a consistently good side.

Yay another wrist slitting thread. 9th or 18th is the same. We will be fine next year.

More frustration thread Clint rather than wrist slitting.

Well done, you have a skill in exaggeration.

And 9th is most clearly and obviously not the same 18th. For so many reasons I'm not sure where to begin.

What a strange thing to say.

All those who say next year we will be ok, I admire your enthusiasm, but for the rest of us it is totally unacceptable this club finds itself in after Jackson & Roos rebuilt for 3 years. We have high draft picks who continually misfire and for unknown reasons do not play to their potential.  This must be down to the whole football department.  Skills, playing style and especially attitude of the playing group just stinks.  Apologies to Gawn who plays his heart out every week.  Supporters must be devastated and above all damn angry.  My interest in AFL is just spluttering because of this club.

"We will be fine next year"

Because that saying has always been accurate for MFC hasnt it...

Lets take 2018 for example. MFC supporter "We will be top 4 next year". (2019)

How did that work out.

I certainly hope we will be fine next year, but i am smart enough not to have any expectation that we actually will be.

Taking things for granted is something NO Melbourne supporter should ever do.

Ever.

55 friggen years in the Wilderness. We have players that are easily satisfied, An excuse with injuries which as everyone knows is NO excuse, and a coach that seems to want to be ur mate and worse has no plan B, C, and D,

Yes Simon tough Gig AND....... We all hurt....AND yep things didn't turn out Right

BUT FFS FIX IT!!!

Anyone who thinks that a clean bill of health next year is all it’ll take to make us “fine” again, is deluding themselves and ignoring some serious issues and gaps we currently have on our list.

Pretty hard to disagree with that summary.

Your summary is spot on!  The status quo going into pre season with same faces in football department cannot be allowed.  I want Pert and the board to insist on getting in the best possible people in football and medical to get this mess sorted out.  As for players they just need to realise their responsibility to this organisation and get their heads and body right.

I’ve already spent enough money and time for little success. Really makes it hard to keep going.

Had a look at who liked this post and laughed.  The wrist slashing committee is patting themselves on the back.  They love it and wallow in it.

Again, as I said in a post I quoted you in earlier that you've ignored, the way you speak about those who actually want to discuss this rationally with you is pretty poor.  I would have thought you're better than that.

  • REPORT: Richmond

The fans who turned up to the MCG for Melbourne’s Anzac Day Eve clash against Richmond would have been disappointed if they turned up to see a great spectacle. As much as this was a night for the 71,635 in attendance to commemorate heroes of the nation’s past wars, it was also a time for the Melbourne Football Club to consolidate upon its first win after a horrific start to the 2025 season. On this basis, despite the fact that it was an uninspiring and dour struggle for most of its 100 minutes, the night will be one for the fans to remember. They certainly got value out of the pre match activity honouring those who fought for their country. The MCG and the lights of the city as backdrop was made for nights such as these and, in my view, we received a more inspirational ceremony of Anzac culture than others both here and elsewhere around the country.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The match up of teams competing in our great Aussie game at its second highest level is a rarity for a work day Thursday morning but the blustery conditions that met the players at a windswept Casey Fields was something far more commonplace. They turned the opening stanza between the Casey Demons and a somewhat depleted Richmond VFL into a mess of fumbling unforced errors, spilt marks and wasted opportunities for both sides but they did set up a significant win for the home team which is exactly what transpired on this Anzac Day round opener. Casey opened up strong against the breeze with the first goal to Aidan Johnson, the Tigers quickly responded and the game degenerated into a defensive slog and the teams were level when the first siren sounded.
