I've watched the Bummers last four matches and no other team has got a better run with the umps this year than them (I don't include West Coast with umpire Dean Margetts as that's the gold standard)

Agree with you about the Bombers, but the Pies are right up there in the good lovin' the umps dish out. Not many teams go to Perth and end up plus 3 for frees. Both Ess and Coll are very much part of the AFL's agenda.

We're singing from the same hymn book here Napster.

Ben Cunnington has done it again

I am still [censored] off from when he hit Bernie Vince. He needs to be dealt with. The MRP won’t touch him

It looked like he actually punched the ball which was being held by Merrett. Possibly the inside of this forearm was over the shoulder.

With his back to the umps, Merrett milked it for all its worth, got up spritley and took the kick.

Over the shoulder free? Ok. Punch to the gut or head? No.

But the media will manufacture outrage from it and he'll get a week for appearances.

AFL pushing the Drug Cheats all the way to the finals. Makes me sick. [censored] of a club.

I hate to think where.

Collingwood win, bummers win. Not a great 48 hours.

Crows already 22 up over the suns at 1/4 time. That could be a nasty result for the suns.

Fact is, I often look to deep mismatch games like that with an edge of hope, looking for someone to replace the 186 misery. Would you believe I put myself through watching the 'highlights' on youtube the other day? Quite the experience, and here we are with Adelaide kicking a goal every three minutes and it still isn't enough to compete with that dark dark moment.

Never forget. Always seek revenge. Against everyone. Like Captain Colostomy.

Meanwhile, we all have to rely on Port and the Crows to keep Essenscum out of finals. How odious.

I was sitting next an Eagles mate last night who tried telling me Margetts never gives them anything.  Margetts had just given a 50/50 Pies way, but I couldn't contain myself, just looked at my mate and said are you for feckin real

Gold Coast on their way to another flogging.. not a good look.

Hate Essendon, but what a great goal to win it.

Your mate better not say that to a Freo supporter, he may be in big trouble!

Gold Coast teams don't work, that place is cursed! It's almost like they need to build the team from scratch again.

Reminds me of the 2007 Grand Final party I went to. Nearly everyone had lost interest after half time and retired to the rear deck. Sometime in the last quarter they were surprised when one of the few still watching the TV let out a massive joyous holler. I was celebrating. Port had just acquired the biggest losing grand final margin of all time. ’88 could sink a little further into the depths of history.

The Gold Coast need to be killed off. But the AFL won’t do it.

They will drain the talent pool further...

nothing survives up there except Concrete and Corruption....

Tassie looks warmer as each week passes... (and it stuffs the Hawks)

Lets hope the crows can do the same to essendon next week

If you are both a suns fan and a titans fan then that would feel horrific.

I am the same. My hopes are raised when there is a likely thrashing but it never gets remotely close to 186. I still live in hope though ?

  • PREVIEW: Hawthorn

Hawthorn and Melbourne. Two teams with impressive form from last week but with seasons that are travelling on different trajectories meet in Saturday’s twilight game for what could well be the most intriguing contest of the AFL’s penultimate round. Sadly, the game has been relegated to that unappealing time slot in the weekend when Melburnians are typically preoccupied with activities other than football. It falls between the morning's shopping, afternoon sport and recreation, and Saturday night fever. A time usually reserved for relatively insignificant events but this one is not a nothingburger for either of the clubs or their fans.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
