Nope. Key defender who has shown he can play at AFL level. In a form and probably mental trough, but will play senior football again.

No.

We are a May or Frost injury away from Oscar being back in the side. Otherwise he is depth at Casey.

Three tall, mobile, backmen....is there room for a fourth?

Jets and Hibbo to return, Hoare showing good form...is there room for him?

‘An elephant in the room’ commonly refers to something of weighty importance that the occupants of that room are thinking about but dare not speak of. I doubt OMac registers that highly in supporters’ thoughts.

He’s well down the pecking order now and rightly so. Barring more ill luck with injuries to key defenders from here on in I can’t see his contract being extended beyond 2020. Just doesn’t have enough athleticism or natural ability to go with the best in the competition, as we have repeatedly seen.

No.

But right now he's behind May, Lever, Frost and Petty IMO.

So we might not see much more of him.

Challenge has been laid down to him to improve his strength, bodywork, positioning and ability to get involved in offence, with all of the above being better at most, if not all, of those things than him.

I’d like to see Petty string a few more games together in a row before I had to pick between he and OMac as the fourth tall.

One half of VFL this year.
Maybe none last year?
2 in 2017
5 in 2016
Plenty in 2015

My point is, this is a guy who's had less than 10 games in the last 4 years at the level where he should be playing to improve.

At AFL level:
- Slow
- tentative physically
- doesn't seek out the ball
- doesn't run with the ball to counter attack

At VFL level he can do all of those things time and time again and get better at them. Then when he comes in to the AFL side he can do that and either improve or not.

I think he's also been underdone this year and carrying an injury, so at full fitness he can do it all with confidence. I wouldn't completely write him off until he's had a chance to develop properly.

With you Nasher. Whilst he has struggled he has not been alone. Needs more time to build up the body and learn a bit more of the craft and I believe he will eventually become a decent player for us. Give him some time.

I noticed Oscar Mcdonald having an individual session at Gosh's Park on friday.

Appeared to be a skills and fitness test.

By the end he was still hitting targets by foot on the run, after leads and some timed laps.

He looked stern and focused, showing good fitness and skills.

I saw Colin Garland going through something similar and he couldn't break back into the 22.

Can see him getting back in.

Garland announced his retirement after missing 2017 with a knee injury and would have turned 30 early the following season. OMac is currently 23 and isn’t fighting his way back into the side following a severe knee injury. I think the cases are too different to draw the same conclusion.

    TRAINING: Wednesday 12th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the scorching morning heat to bring you the following observations of Wednesday's preseason training session from Gosch's Paddock. HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

    TRAINING: Wednesday 5th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatchers were out in force as the Demons returned to Gosch's Paddock for preseason training on Wednesday morning. GHOSTWRITER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Kozzie a no show. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
