But Port were fit when he was in charge. They believed it, they played like it and they ran over teams late in games. It was great footy to watch.

I'd be willing to risk some injuries to see our players really believe in themselves.

We seem so reluctant to kick the ball and run to space. Our quick ball movement game plan will never amount to anything if we're afraid to stretch the size of the ground with run.

Question:  does the "fitness guru" make immediate decisions about injury management?  Surely that is the role of the club doctors and perhaps the physiotherapists?

The "fitness guru" is to get them all into, and keep them in,  the best shape for the role each player has.  Some will require more endurance work, others emphasis on agility and / or burst.

The "fitness guru" is to get them all into, and keep them in,  the best shape for the role each player has.  Some will require more endurance work, others emphasis on agility and / or burst.

There was talk that our previous club doctors quit because Misson outranked them on player management. 

Injury prevention would be the first priority, but a fitness guru also has to make a call about the right fitness program and when a player is right to play. A doctor or physio would manage the initial stages of injury but I'm 99% sure it then it comes down to the guru to work out the right amount of training. 

Some of these guys are physiotherapists as well as exercise physiologists. And certainly it's a matter of team work between the doctor, physio and fitness guy to create the best plan.

anyway he's highly regarded, if we're building talent on the pitch it needs to be protected. for whatever reason, the medical department may or may not have shot themselves in the foot a few times in recent times. Need club-wide review and subsequent improvements (if warranted) on and off pitch to continue quest for success. 

Cheers mate, didn’t realise he was only there since 2017. Arsenal have been ok on the injury front last year so hopefully good signs

So did Port actually achieve anything during his time and just been sacked. I know he has a good reputation and probably justified but fitness guys don't give me any confidence either way that they are the difference in a premiership.

Having a fit list is pretty much key to winning premierships. Statistically the less players in your list you use during the season the better you place.

He was on over 500k a season when he was at Port and could demand the same from us. If he’s been let go from Arsenal and wants to return home, it’s not a bad wicket.

EPL is no Mickey Mouse league.  He has proven AFL experience, and under his watch Port dominated with their ability to outrun the opposition.  Correct me if I’m wrong but I believe it was th year they made the prelim.  Pretty sure before Port he also had a stint at Liverpool.

I vaguely also remember an Adelaide advertiser article where he was running a program where other clubs/sports were sending their people to learn from him.

Slightly OT, but I was put off by the ‘pace setters’ when the players were running in pre-season. In that it surely falsely enhahnced their times. Faux data set perhaps didn’t help.

I'm so blessed to know that you don't think our injury list is a fitness issue. Chasing big names for the sake of appearances is why the club has gone backwards since all the AFL appointments have left. It took no time to get back to pre-Roos levels of management. We need to find people who are good at what they do. I have no confidence that our Board makes good staffing decisions at any level of the club.

The bloke is a gun and has a massive emphasis on maximising players’ running ability and aerobic capacity. Along with Hinkley, Richardson and Koch, played a major role in transforming Port from basket case to finals’ contender in one pre-season. No doubt he will be highly sought after by other clubs/codes if he’s coming back to Aus.
