Wells 11 5,503 Posted June 19, 2019 Posted June 19, 2019 3 games, 3 unsuccessful bets totalling $36?? Not sure why everyone thinks hes so lucky. Thin end of the wedge I guess. Quote
Lucifers Hero 40,737 Posted June 19, 2019 Posted June 19, 2019 (edited) Does anyone think he actually self reported? One bet could be a brain fade. Multiple bets on 3 games over a 6 week period? Self-reporting is probably window dressing to 'justify' the discount from 22 weeks to 10. Edited June 19, 2019 by Lucifer's Hero 2 2 Quote

The AFL sold their soul to the devil a decade ago. Quote

"self reported" = "the club found out the story was coming and after sh*tting themselves, ordered Stephenson to self-report to try to get out in front of the story" 4 Quote

"Son, you've embarrassed yourself, your club, and the league, and worst of all, you've put the league into match fixing territory. It's as serious as it gets. We need to send a strong message. Really, you should be out for the rest of this year. But gee ... that'd be a bit rough! Oh, go on .... play your finals! (ruffles hair) Ha ha, fine boy, that." Quote

La Dee-vina Comedia 17,137 Posted June 19, 2019 Posted June 19, 2019 One thing I don't understand is the process. The AFL's statement seems to suggest that the AFL itself made the decision. Does that mean (1) the Commission, (2) the CEO or someone who reports to him, such as Andrew Dillon or (3) something else? Surely for an offence like this the AFL's integrity department should collect the evidence and then present it to an independent third party, such as the AFL Tribunal, to make a decision on guilt as well as penalty. And the accused player should also have an opportunity to present his case to the Tribunal. I don't like the AFL taking on the combined roles of investigator, judge and jury. 1 1 Quote

Cannot hep but think that it is an inverse reaction to their reliance on the gambling dollar. Match fixing in cricket and tennis which is a million shades worse only gets you one to two years. 2 Quote

Someone at Collingwood would have gotten wind of it and told him to self report before someone else reported it. Standard damage control tactic. The penalty to this is ridiculously lenient. Given that he bet on himself and his own team, he should be rubbed out for two years. His Collingwood teammate Josh Thomas should be totally bewildered. 1 1 Quote

He was spinning it round everywhere, jiggling it about and it was didn't suprise or disapoint me at all, when he shaked it all over the place from some pretty simple set shots. Didn't stop BT and the comentary team from praising him up all over the place as some kind of champion, dispite this obvious flaw in his goal kicking. Shiiit me to tears with all their Collingwood love crap. Had this guy been any sort of decient kick the game would have been all over by quarter time for the MFC ... not that it made much difference in the end. Maybe he thought it was a roulette wheel? 1 hour ago, rjay said: Very lucky boy to be available for finals... TeamPlayedFine39 8,525 Posted June 19, 2019 Posted June 19, 2019 Being available for finals is outrageous. When I first read the headline I though it was the whole season, which is swift and appropriate action. Being available to play finals for a top 4 team is completely unjust and sends the wrong message. 2 1 Quote

Cricket is a year round sport at the top level , so that means that 2 years is about 100 weeks. Betting on himself in the AFL Stephenson only gets 10 weeks, I say that is light on. Quote
