Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Very lucky boy to be available for finals...

Gambling is a big issue, the AFL need to come down really hard otherwise the integrity of the completion is done for.

eeerrrh.......what integrity, rjay?........ lost that long time ago

Does anyone think he actually self reported?

One bet could be a brain fade.  Multiple bets on 3 games over a 6 week period?  Self-reporting is probably window dressing to 'justify' the discount from 22 weeks to 10.

Agree with dc that horse has long bolted. The AFL sold their soul to the devil a decade ago.

"self reported" = "the club found out the story was coming and after sh*tting themselves, ordered Stephenson to self-report to try to get out in front of the story"

"Son, you've embarrassed yourself, your club, and the league, and worst of all, you've put the league into match fixing territory. It's as serious as it gets. We need to send a strong message. Really, you should be out for the rest of this year. But gee ... that'd be a bit rough! Oh, go on .... play your finals! (ruffles hair) Ha ha, fine boy, that."

A better punishment would have been, play up to & including round 23 and THEN you're suspended!

But of course that might affect attendances which is the only thing that keeps Gil up at night.

12 Month Minimum Ban is what it should be.

One thing I don't understand is the process. The AFL's statement seems to suggest that the AFL itself made the decision. Does that mean (1) the Commission, (2) the CEO or someone who reports to him, such as Andrew Dillon or (3) something else? Surely for an offence like this the AFL's integrity department should collect the evidence and then present it to an independent third party, such as the AFL Tribunal, to make a decision on guilt as well as penalty. And the accused player should also have an opportunity to present his case to the Tribunal. I don't like the AFL taking on the combined roles of investigator, judge and jury.

And then .... they sit down with Collingwood to work out the penalty!

Never thought I'd say it but the AFL have set the penalty too high this time.

Cannot hep but think that it is an inverse reaction to their reliance on the gambling dollar.

Match fixing in cricket and tennis which is a million shades worse only gets you one to two years.

Someone at Collingwood would have gotten wind of it and told him to self report before someone else reported it. Standard damage control tactic.

The penalty to this is ridiculously lenient. Given that he bet on himself and his own team, he should be rubbed out for two years. His Collingwood teammate Josh Thomas should be totally bewildered.

Hardly unpredictable.

This guys ball drop during his goal kicking routine is a joke.  He was spinning it round everywhere, jiggling it about and it was didn't suprise or disapoint me at all, when he shaked it all over the place from some pretty simple set shots.  Didn't stop BT and the comentary team from praising him up all over the place as some kind of champion, dispite this obvious flaw in his goal kicking.  Shiiit me to tears with all their Collingwood love crap.

Had this guy been any sort of decient kick the game would have been all over by quarter time for the MFC ... not that it made much difference in the end.

Maybe he thought it was a roulette wheel?

Otherwise??  Long gone, horse bolted.

And the AFL's dependency on gambling advertising is just the tip of the iceberg.

Pot .... kettle .... black!

Being available for finals is outrageous.  When I first read the headline I though it was the whole season, which is swift and appropriate action.  Being available to play finals for a top 4 team is completely unjust and sends the wrong message.

Cricket is a year round sport at the top level , so that means that 2 years is about 100 weeks. Betting on himself in the AFL Stephenson only gets 10 weeks, I say that is light on.

spot betting .. for instance that the next ball is a wide and you as the player determine the result is so so different but I will leave others to judge.

This is the AFL playing tough on one hand while supping at the ever growing sports betting trough

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
