Serious question. 

We (Demonland) have had this discussion before in the Pert thread. Any new person at the head of a chain of command, whether in sport, politics, business, military - wherever, can have an immediate impact on the mood, energy and morale of those around them. This impact can be for the better, for the worse, or somewhere in between. 

Has Pert’s presence been a positive or a negative so far it’s hard to say. What we do know however is his arrival put some noses out of joint at the time, including the outgoing CEO’s who was reportedly staggered that he was shut out of the hiring process by President Glen Bartlett. 

Josh Mahoney was passed over for a job he was apparently groomed by Jackson for. There was just something a bit stinky about that whole affair for mine.

Well if Bartlett is the no crap lawyer he’s supposed to be he and/or the other board members should act. 

I agree with your theory based on the fact we all applauded Jackson for the way he transformed the club over his tenure but I’m also pragmatic enough to question the affect Pert has had within not even a full year - negative or positive. 

I’m more open to sheer coincidence.

Yes we are missing Milkshake, as well as Nev and Vanders.

Tmac is playing with foot/toe issue, which is concerning. I hope it's not going to be an ongoing issue, because when he is playing well, he can be great for us.

Vanders is another player who we need get fit and playing. Don't forget he also lost his dad not long ago, so maybe the club is just giving all the time he needs, to get back playing.

It would be more concerning if all of these players were available and we were playing the way we are now.

Is this year over, i could be wrong is saying in yes; but it looks to be done for 2019. 

I hope we can show improvement for the rest of 2019 as we start to get a few guys back.

If people running the club  don't want a lamb sacrifice, then the club needs to stop spinning and  accept some home truths. The bbq spit is being set up.

Great idea Kent...   your making me hungry.

The club should put on a  50/50  B-B-Q,  during the Bye,  for all supporters to come and have a get together Pow-Wow.   Give a little Get a little... since so many supporters and members seem so ripped off.

Players shouldn't have to be there,  during they're break...  but some might show up.?

Supporters bring their own side-salad,  Or their meat.  One or the other.?    Mfc could ask the Casey catering crew to attend.?   preparing food at say cost-price.?  the club could put down a base payment for the caterers.?

Absolutely missing Melksham. He was one of our 2 reliable forwards with Tommy Mc last year.

There's a few things I don't love about his game - he's not a good pressure player and can be a lazy defender when not given a task, he likes to draw a free kick and in particular this year he's been iffy about taking shots on goal from around 50m out. 

But he leads up at the ball, plays in front and can kick to a forwards advantage. 

I guess the silver lining of him being out for a while is it means he's not covering for the weaknesses of others. Every mid and half forward now knows they have to improve their inside 50's.

Melkshem is one of our better finishers and will make a difference up forward once he returns (Hopefully only a few weeks after the bye!)

It is not good, but i think most of Tom’s problems have stemmed from the appalling delivery he has received  from up the ground. Tom would have no idea where to lead. Who would. Not a total excuse, but i don’t fully blame him

Not just Melksham, but if we're comparing to last year I think we're also very much missing Kent, Hogan and an in-form ANB.

Without those last three (yes I know ANB is still with us, but I'm talking injury-free and in-form), we are missing:

5 goals per game.

2 goal assists per game.

4 marks inside 50.

3 inside 50 tackles per game.

That's more than a 7 goal turnaround (in simplistic terms) from a direct scoreboard impact point of view, which is significant given we are averaging 5 less goals a game this year so far.

I understand the reasons for both Hogan Kent leaving, so not arguing we had much of a choice trade wise, but the reality is that's a massive impact to a forward line which is also now without it's best marking target inside 50 and deliverer inside 50 in Melksham.

To compound matters, the delivery inside 50 of those players has been replaced mostly by Oliver, Gus and Viney who this year are all averaging far far below the AFL average for inside 50 delivery. Viney in fact is rated as the single worst in the league.

His best form is sorely missed but he doesn't reach those heights anywhere near enough.  Doesn't get to enough contests. 

I barely noticed him in the first 4 or 5 games of the year and he hasn't played since round 8. 

But he is not on his own ... there are another dozen players who are well below their best.  So it is not Jake's fault alone ... he is just one part of the problem.  Injured now so the spotlight goes elsewhere.

Is Joel Smith your mate ?  What have you missed about him? Is he your saviour?  Played 11 AFL games  and is in his third season. He has not proven himself. Don't get carried away by  what ever you see in him.

The list needs a reset.. and it will need to happen smartly next year. I fully believe we will get the wooden spoon so at least a gun is coming our way.

Without a full forward who can average a minimum  2 goals a game and a decent crumber feeding off him we will never b e competitive on the scoreboard.

Delivery has been shocking but Tmac is dropping simple marks, missing said shots and barely tackling. I think its mostly between the ears and perhaps injury.

 

Tom is clearly a confidence player and for whatever reason cannot pull himself out of this rut. A rest may do him the world of good and certainly wont hamper our chance of winning.
