It’s ok everyone, we can relax, the AFL is fixing the problem. What is the problem you ask, well a kick for goal by a Docker was touched by a Pies player and not picked up by the review. On the TV you can see Mayne’s little finger touch the ball. 

It was reviewed by the AFL heavily last night after the game, as a missed touch to Collingwood could seriously harm the game.

The Pies received 7 frees in their inside forward 50 to the Dockers one. 4 goals were gifted to the Pies from blatant incorrect decisions but let’s not worry about that. 

We got 1 free inside our forward 50 to 4 soft goals to Crows yesterday but we are only Melbourne and not Collingwood . Blatant Melbourne frees ignored as per usual.

The AFL said we are not worried about Melbourne as who really cares anyway. We look at the issues that count and that matter to our great game like this missed touch on the ball. Heads will roll over this.

Maybe if our club mattered as much as the tip of a Collingwood players little finger we would become relevant. We clearly are not.

The game has seriously lost a lot of its enjoyment to me.

Sure the free kicks can matter, but if you kick 1.8 in a qtr when you have the lead, and it has been a trend for years where we kick more points than goals.

Easy to blame umps and AFL.

Good teams win, good teams don’t regularly give up leads, good teams bury opponents, good teams have leaders who turn games, good teams have coaches who influence games, good teams don’t worry about umps. 

How many of those boxes have we ticked in the last 5, 10, 15 years...

Id rather worry about things we should be changing than what the filth do/get

So the umps gift Collingwood wins for 2 years, then one decision does not go their way and we should be sorry for them? Give me a spell.

Perhaps also the most difficult game to officiate out of any professional sport.

And the AFL should do something about that. It should start be reducing the number of rules where umpires have to make judgement calls. For example, why require an umpire to decide whether a ball is juggled over a boundary or goal line before deciding whether to pay a mark? Why not just say if the player touches the ball prior to the ball being over the line and completes the mark whether the ball is juggled or not, the mark gets paid.

The deliberate out of bounds rule is also too subjective. The reasoning is sound but the execution is too difficult. Change it to something that is less subjective. For example, could the rule be changed so that a free kick is always paid if the ball only bounces once inside the line? In other words, "out on the full" would be become "out on the full or only one bounce".

Rather than spending its time in denial about umpiring and virtually never admitting the umpires make mistakes, the AFL would help everyone if they made the job of umpiring significantly easier.

Absolutely spot on to easy to blame umpires and injuries for our deplorable results.

You may just be right on that one Ethan.

What I struggle to come to grips with is, that basic decisions are not being given to certain teams and soft/technical ones are given to other teams.

Using our game as an example, Weid was pushed right in the back 15 out and so was JKH by Jenkins, who handballed to Lynch late in the game, but no frees for blatant pushes, yet soft holds given to Crows for goals. Then the refusal to give blatant holding the ball decisions against the Crows, but again instant frees against us, like the Viney one. 

These decisions are so visible, obvious and blatant, that you are left to think that it is an agenda, or we are just the unluckiest team in sport. Several times the commentators call them, but you know their instructions are to just gloss over them, as we can’t criticise umpires and we all generally agree with that, but seriously is it just the rub of the green? 

We had one single infringement against us in our forward 50, in a 2 hour physical contest, according to the umpires.

PS. I know it was us and our kicking that lost the game, but why do we not get what other teams do?

Eighteen teams of warriors battle it out in weekly challenges to find out who will reign supreme.

Each week the teams battle for the coveted Premiership Points. Individuals fight for Brownlow Votes and Rising Star Awards. Or take the Mark of the Week and earn extra Glory for their team!

It's no place for the faint hearted, as the Green Maggots will randomly place hazards in the way of the warriors.

And can they avoid the Match Review Officer, who will randomly penalise contestants, and even send some to the Tribunal Of Unprecedent?

After the September Battles, only one team will be left standing.

October is coming.

Agree, and then they added back another one...

The hands in the back rule was made black & white but Hocking and the AFL decided to bring back all the grey.

Now an umpire has to decide whether a player is holding his ground or pushing.

One instance on Friday night had the commentary panel split down the middle as to whether it was a mark or should have been a free kick against...

Gil is the worst CEO in the entirety of the AFL. His ineptitude is so great, it almost makes you laugh, save for all the damage he has caused by ignoring grassroots football during his entire tenure.

We're not allowed to get free kicks inside forward 50. It very rarely happens.

I'd like to see the free kick inside forward 50 league ladder for the last 10 years. I reckon I know where we'd sit.

To my eye every week we are about minus 6 in correct holding the ball decisons. We dont get three we deserve and we concede three we dont each week.  As a close in contested side as a rule, this is killing us.

Don't worry though, the AFL will fix a problem they created which noone asked for by creating a Wildcard Weekend to fill the gap during the bye week before finals.

Hell, soon they'll revert back to the 1900 model of "everyone makes finals" and we might actually pinch a flag again.

Im suspicious about umpires being "Mic'd" 

What real benefit does it bring? What cant be achieved by the video umpire? 

Umpires being miked up is an "innovation", invented by TV, and if you're a TV exec, all "innovations" are "good things".

Like the "countdown clock", it doesn't actually add anything (arguably, the countdown detracts from the tension of a close match).

But it's an "innovation" so therefore "good".

The AFL take such little care over their product that they don't bother much about its portrayal on TV. If it's rating well, all is well.

We're bound to have had the fewest because for much of that time we were incapable of getting the ball into the forward 50 anyway. For this particular stat to have any relevance (and it would be an interesting guide), it will have to be measured as free kicks given as a proportion of forward 50 entries.

Nah it's always on, but there has been enough in the Hun and on the socials that the Pies will get an even better run as a result of this 'injustice'.

The Grand Finalists will be 2 of Collingwood, Geelong and West Coast. They all get an unbelievable run from the maggots.

NRL is the same - certain teams get a good run every week, and like the AFL, when 2 'favoured' teams play each other, the refs do not know what to do. Then the hierarchy needs to be applied.
