The positive tonight was the defence, effort was better but midfield panicked under perceived pressure and fumbled

Tom McDonald was horrible. His last qtr argument with the ump was embarrassing.  He cannot kick. He has no second efforts. Lost it and must be dropped.  Happy to trade him and Oscar to anywhere.

6 - Gawn (easily our best and the hardest trier)

5 - Salem ( classy despite most others being so inept in defense)

4 - McDonald ( held the competition’s best forward to 3 possessions and 1 goal)

3 - Hore ( showed unDemonlike promise )

2 - Hibberd ( blanketed the dangerous Martin effectively)

1 - Melksham ( disposals were effective and advantageous)

Harsh mate.

He did keep Lynch to 1 goal and quite frankly didn’t do much wrong for the entire night.

Deserves votes tonight and may have to say back until May or Lever returns.

He didn't need to kick much tonight, he beat his direct opponent for the night. If you're judging votes on kicks why have you given Brayshaw a vote, one of our worst turnover offenders by foot tonight

I've given serves to both in recent weeks and both can hold their heads high - with Goodwin given some credit for recognising the issues and trying to reinvigorate the pair with fresh assignments. Dusty picked up 17 touches and had very little impact, while Melksham started out at absolute upper elite level before fading. If he stayed in the centre and could maintain that impact across quarters and games he would push for a Brownlow. Potentially so damaging - but needs to be stripped of an incentive/opportunity to cruise.

Would you seriously give them votes,  for tonight ?

I'd give e them all an ' E ', for effort...   that is all.

Hard to find winners, but Tmac and Hibbo did their jobs despite making plenty of mistakes.

I generally love Oliver, but he played poorly. Yes, plenty of possessions but fumbled, missed targets and ran lazily. I thought he looked injured, disinterested, or both. 106 "Fantasy Points"! The name says it all.

So my votes are

6 Gawn

5 Melksham

4 Tmac

3 Hibbo

2 Brayshaw

1 Salem

6. Gawn - his game actually gets better the more you watch it.  He is a genuine champion of the game.

5. Stretch - Billy showed a great deal last night.  He was physical with his tackling, his pace was a real asset and his ball use was improved.

4. Melksham - Jake's best game for the year.

3. Hibberd - Hibbo's best game since his AA year.

2. Salem - he is having a career best season.  Shame he hasn't got more help.

1. Oliver - Just keeps on winning hard ball and a great tackler.

The effort was definitely an improvement, but the skill level is deplorable in the main and our forward line is a joke!  I think all those who bagged Hogan might now understand just how good he was for this team.  To kick 40 plus goals three years out of 4 as a very young man was an extraordinary effort with the opposition best defender hanging off you every week.

Thought about Hibberd for the last vote but decided on Hore because of Hibberd's poorer disposal. (Which makes me wonder whether Hibberd is playing with a sore foot which is being injected before each game.)

6 Gawn - Lost his battle with Nank in the second term but came out after break and did his stuff - even clunked a few nice marks.

5 Hibberd - nice to see a bit of variety in the match-ups from Goody and he seemed to enjoy his battle with Dusty. Dusty not being in Tiger best five means move worked.

4 Stretch - I hope Goody pulled him aside and apologised to him for virtually not playing him for three years now. He works his butt off and his smart with his positioning and now has the strength to become a player in the Phillips/Lambert mould.

3 Hore - Tremendous first half as our intercepter but not as effectual when under siege after half time.

2 Melky - Found it hard to find a target up forward, but another who appreciated a slight change up in roles.

1 T.Mac - Beat Lynch for most of the night and needs a few games back there getting his confidence back until May returns. Perfect for Roughy this week and maybe Cameron the week after. But his mobility is still a worry.

Note: I deliberately left out our 3 prime midfielders. Viney was brilliant in the first quarter but, even before he was hit, had dropped out of game a bit. Brayshaw was smart and methodical, but like Melksham failed to hit enough targets and Olly again looked the part at times but have a look at his decision to turn backward in the second quarter to a safe option when he had a chance to flow forward. That shows where his confidence is at.

You are kidding. Melksham hit more targets in the F50 in the first quarter than any one else has for the year.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
