Yes your last point is a good one. But seriously do prefer Bruce and Brian to the sweet sound of silence? I wonder if anyone has done a trial of a telecast sports game without commentary but sounds of the crowd etc?

Don't know about anyone else, but we make so much crowd noise from our lounge room, especially when the umpires are making suspect decisions or non-decisions, the whole neighbourhood can probably hear us! The commentary is the background noise.

When I have to watch 7 I either watch it with no sound or have a radio station for sound. There is a lot to be said for no sound. It is like watching a game live, you don't get commentary at the ground why do we need it at home?

Why not just take the hearing aid out, old dee?

Foxtel did it for a few AFL games in the early 2000s.

I recall being at a friends place watching an AFL game and pressing the red button on the remote to turn the commentary off and change camera angles. It was a bit clunky but definitely could have been refined into something quite good.

Below is an example of how it looked with the rugby. The audio could be changed to commentators off  but still with crowd noise on and I think their was an option to have the umpires audio feed as well.

Cannot believe with today’s technology that this is not possible, as always, it’s about the money.

Strange comment for a fella who has worked in tv. He us clueless about who most people are. He has a producer piping directions and instructions direct into his ear

Yes and he pulls it off quite well actually. Many people don’t function at all well when the camera is rolling live to air

What gets right up my goat is when Brian & Co get totally side tracked when calling the game and start drivaling on about completely irrelevant rubbish - just shut the f#@* up already.

Me too.  And most of it is name dropping or showing off in some other way.

Like that time they spent a quarter prattling on about Leigh Montana's (?) Mexican themed birthday party and how they had uploaded it to Instagram.

Genuinely cringe worthy stuff.

Welcome to 2019.  Married at First Sight, Kitchen Rules, Fattest Loser etc and now this carp. TV has just morphed to appeal to the lowest common denominator and it is a blight on our country really.

What we've learnt from (Brian) Ch 7 and others is that Jake Lever is a cook maybe  suitable   MKR ?  Demonland posters Poor maligned Trac for Fattest Losers and Married  at First Sight any of our young eligible players (bachelors) in the off season to keep their fitness levels in check. The generation that like this stuff are bored and cynical.  looking for more.... maybe because of all the rubbish told to them on the media.   Almost force-fed rubbish.. is all they've seen.

This plastic society.

Maybe going back to ore organic honest commentary...  and honest appraisal without any bling comment attached,  is the antidote to all this feed-lot mentality.

Maybe its the media-bosses and the Advertising executives,  doing the very same things the Former AFL stars and their EGO's spread on our daily bread for us, from our waking moment to our time of shut-eye.

I understand the "engine room" access, but why does it need to in such a moronic, juvenile and dense way. I just dont get it..

Their viewers are all age groups, and surely the AFL would want this inside access to appeal to the kids...  as well as the adults.   Lets not over sophisticate it.

Not AFL, but I have a version of the last few minutes of the 2003 Rugby World Cup. All you hear is the referees directives and the crowd. It’s brilliant.

Shame about the result.

Think of the money 7 could save, I would love to see an AFL game.

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k
