If guys like David King and Reiwoldt are seeing this in the flesh then surely Goody is in the same boat.

Oscar just needs to go.. plain and simple. Casey, Oak Park, Frankston... anywhere!

How do we fix it?

Oscar and Frost have to go. Hibberd has lost it as has Jetta.

I liked Fritsch down back and J.Wagner played well.

Tommy must play on Buddy and bring in Petty.

Any other suggestions?

I don’t think Frost is the one we should be throwing poop at. Based on his skill set, I think he is the perfect third banana. He is fast and that can’t be undervalued.  May, Lever then Frost. Has what they don’t and they have what he doesn’t. The quicker we realise that Omac is not the project defencive player. Maybe he is a forward like his brother. IMHO both McDonalds need to hit the gym and become players that are referred to as beasts.

Both are woeful VFL players who are not up to it. King hit it on the head.

Unfortunately this happens when you trade away the best young forward in the game (Hogan) and have your best defender (T.McDonald) pretending he is a full forward.

Surely once May & Lever return we never see Frost or O.McDonald in red & blue again. Surely

Looking forward to hearing the Oscar fans come out and defend him again.

@binman

Been calling it since 2016 when we for some unkown reason decided to play this spud over Lynden Dunn.

What's the alternative ? Keitly ? Petty ? You've got to be realistic if Petty is a long term prospect as a 3rd you can't throw him to wolves without Lever & May, may do long term damage.

We clearly have the answers but both are out injured

*** TBH I've had it with both of them but our hands are tied while May & Lever are injured

I miss Lynden, he was twice the player Oscar was.  He actually wanted the ball.

Oscar is playing like rubbish no way to argue against that.  But he has the capacity and potential to play much better than he is at present.

Frosty was our best key backman last night and I do think he is doing his job.

Our defense as a team was atrocious again last night.  So many loose Essendon players that took easy marks and receives in defense, which wasn't Frosty's fault.  I do wonder if we should just keep it simple and go man on man.

All we can do over the next few weeks while we wait for May to return is:

Drop both Frost and Oscar.  T Mac to CHB, Keilty comes in to play forward and pinch hit in the ruck.  It's really the only solution we have right now.

Mrs McDonald must be getting sick of trying to defend him...

It was obvious 3 years ago our defence was terrible and OMac wasn't going to makeit. Has no attributed as a footballer other than his disposal is quite neat.

5 touches agains Ess, 2 in effective, zero marks and 1000 fumbles + over-running the ball. Number of times he let players fal out the back 327.

As next to useless as a footballer as you could ever be. Zac Dawson would cream him.

I rekon we have to throw T mac back in to defense and bring in some quick smalls. Id keep frost for his pace ATM

Clearly there isn't much we can do here at the moment with Lever and May down

But stevie wonder can see we are terrible defensively they aren't really pointing out much new information here

I have been one who has defended Oscar. I will admit he is limited, but last year was showing signs of developing into a good stopper. That role is not a stats feast so inside the group his worth may  be appreciated more.

By saying Frost was our best defender last night highlights how badly we played. As I mentioned on another post, he gave the impression when the ball was coming down that he was hoping somone else got it, that is how badly he seemed to fell. I have said that Frost is when he gets possession and thinks he can run. Unfortunately he loses somthing in relation to reasoning when he has the ball. However last night he was being beaten in 1 on 1 contests (eg Baguley) that he should eat up.

Remeber at the moment we are probably paying 1.5 million to defenders who are not playing. That is a fair gap.

Yep, agree with this quite strongly. Frost is:

  • 3rd banana stuff due to pace (and disposal is not as sick as people in defence of OMac in the past have suggested).
  • Clearance machine in waiting for Lever and May, and Jetta and Salem.

Add Keilty up back as another intercept to balance Lever (with opportunities for flanking entries by both of them and we are in town! Spot left for Petty as backline utility, as well.

Releases some of the midfielders to stop penetrating so often into backmen's territory and as a result, enables them to penetrate closer to the forwards for less 'distance' bombs and more 'eyes-up', controlled short-passing whilst still playing chaos on the flanks and through the two wings.

Makes good sense to me in comparison to what we have seen since.

Frost is only 95Kgs.   Look at him,  he has skinny legs for a tall.  He is built for running.

Can't defend and offer no offensive impact. Horrible combination

Both horribly out of form I might add (along with Hibbo and to some extent Jetta). But hard to see what Omac offers going forward, even if he improves a bit he is still a fair way off. Frost perhaps has more potential with his athletic attributes, but needs to fix his brainfades

Tom McDonald is finished as a defender.

He's right, but does he think they'd be playing if Lever and May were available?

You're probably right, Clint.  But if posters here want BOTH out next week, then that is one solution that could work.  Otherwise we're stuck with at last one of them for a few more weeks at least.

I think Frost stays to play on Franklin, but either way we are in all sorts.

Frost and O. McDonald would both look serviceable if we had May and Lever, but as the main men they are no good.

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
