What concerns me is the lack of enthusiasm particularly early in the game.

While I am not a fan of over celebrating I’m  a keen observer of how many guys get in to celebrate a goal....who picks someone up off the deck etc.

There is signs of form but the spirit is most  worrisome.

this can be faked which then turns into a genuine spirit and it needs to be done now.

the season is at a knifes edge

Really interesting you commented on this. I really feel like there is something so different about the Melbourne team playing this year - it doesn’t feel like the Melbourne we have become accustomed to over the last three years.

Obviously an aspect of that is we have new players, but I don’t know... something feels like it’s missing. There just doesn’t seem to be that cohesiveness in the group which we saw so much of last year. Everyone had each other’s back and they all spurred each other on to try harder and win. It was the cohesiveness of the team that translated into the cohesiveness of our footy.

Maybe I am looking into this all a bit too much, but something just doesn’t feel right. I hope I am wrong.

Also, looking at the list of the team we fielded today, it really just doesn’t impress me. It feels like we have gone a step back... or maybe our players have? I don’t know, I’m just trying to make sense of such a woeful start to our season.

I still don’t think it’s too late to turn things around. It certainly is going to be hard, but not impossible.

Really is a horrible feeling though... to think this might be yet another season of missing finals after one promised season.

No idea

Lol. So the problem with Tom Mac's game is his head is in front of a camera too much and his body language is worse than Hogan's.

Good one pal

Any talk of tanking yet. How’s the draft prospects looking??

Looks like it.

Couple of good young players in the team. We could make finals in a couple of years.

I have never, never seen a worse decision when Jetta was charged face on hit on head and no free! Even without contact a player cannot run straight at an opponent even without making contact .He must turn his back at the last second. The decision against Neville when he made a perfectly legal spoil was also laughable. Melksham too was held, pushed the back for no free in last quarter. I could go on. Loved Maxy's huge kick off the ground one of the few good moments. Throwing away my membership? Come off it mate you stay with the ship. Too many fairweather supporters on this forum I am sorry to say. Our defence is certainly our problem ATM

I have already acknowledged that Oscar and Frost were like witches hats... Others that disappoint are T McDonald, Weids, ANB, J Wagner... That's it... I thought all others contributed, and deserved to get 4 points

Did we kick out from a point once tonight to a Demon player?

We are even incapable of that. We just bomb to a pack every time. That is a basic of footy to be able to clear the opposition goal and start an attack. We never did it once.

Whoever is in charge of the defence  should be replaced immediately.

Whoever picks ANB should be replaced.

Whoever refused to draft pace and skill in the last few years should be replaced.

Whoever thinks win contested footy don't worry about anything else and that is our only game plan should be replaced.

How about that grub Stringer in the first or second quarter. Gave away a free to Nev and then need him in the face. No 50

I miss Vanders as well... good pressure and for a couple of goals

Classic Petracca. Plays a good quarter then goes missing again.

Devon Smith - 9 tackles

N Jones - 1 tackle

Time to move Jones on, his adding little and doesn’t support our backline.  Would be handy if we had a Tyson to come in....too bad we traded him for a player we don’t even play.

He is a filth rat.

Couldnt believe the non decision at the time. In hindsight, we wouldn’t have received a 50 even if he was eye gouged, then punched in the face and then held in a choker hold.

Ok, that was shocking.

The defenders failed to go man on man.  They prefer to have 10 m or more of space from their direct opponents, and this really cost us.

Tommy Mac was not even there.

Nate Jones - first Quarter, then nouffin.

Our gameplan is built on winning contest after contest - except we simply don’t.

We have no legspeed.  None.  We are outrun all over the ground.

We relied on individuals to do heroic efforts to make a difference.  We took the game on, only when someone did something spectacular.

Goody says ‘no exucses’.  He owns this.  Lets see what he does.

Time for massive changes and a change in mindset.  We are really back at the bad old days.

I said some pretty bad things about the umpires during the game.  I stand by every one of those.  That was simply dreadful by the maggots.

Weideman was pathetic! And yet this weak as [censored] footballer is asking for 700k!?? Hell i will happily open the door for him. Weak and timid.

We gave up pick 6 for KK... just wow...

Hibberd is trash now. Going down the same track as Vince last year. Time to hang em up son.

Both Wagners were good as was Lockhart.

Jones needs to be be played as an inside midfielder again.

No.

When he dropped that mark very early in the third term, which was under no pressure, I yelled so loud I woke my 12 week old daughter up.  The wife told me off, but I told her it was ANB's fault.  I've defended him before, but I just can't do it anymore.  The bloke is simply not good enough and his fumbles, dropped marks and lack of contribution can waste away at Casey for the rest of his career.

I'd been jaw clenchingly quiet up to that point but that one tipped me over the edge and I got told off too, I apparently gave my 9 year old "a big fright".

We're heading down to Melb for a family holiday over the easter/anzac holiday period...anyone want to buy some reserved seats for the Tiggers game?

Have u not watched Tyson at North? He is trash and butchers the footy. Would be playing at Casey.

The season may be finished... but if I was an AFL coach I wouldn't mind going into a season with May, Jones, Salem, Harmes, Petracca, Viney, Lever, Brayshaw, Gawn, Oliver, Hibberd, Melksham, Hannon, Jetta, Fritsch, Garlett, Hunt, Lockhart on the list... Just have to add to it

I agree. But Jones is cooked. If he's not playing inside mid he's useless.

We need another quality outside runner and a quality small forward.

Season is absolutely gone. I wish I could say I'm done with this mob but I'm off to Sydney next week, what a waste of time, money & effort. So [censored] off.

Sadly, me too. I booked flights (for me and my son) before the season. Didn't expect to be 3-0, but equally didn't expect 0-3 and totally uncompetitive.

I know a few people are getting upset about Weids tonight.

I feel like a lot of fans got carried away with what he produced in the finals last year. He isn't ready to consistently take the game by the scruff of the neck. He will have a lot of games where he will struggle to get involved over the next 12 months. He will also have a couple of blinders.

He is a young KPF who has good hands on the lead and a great set shot for goal who is playing in a team who continually bomb the ball into the forward 50 with no thought to kick it to advantage.  He only needs to get his mitts on the ball a few times a game to make the most of it but we continually bomb it in. Very frustrating.

He got 2 goals tonight. Delivered the ball into the forward 50 to advantage KK to set up another (exactly the reverse of what should happen) and played out 87% game time including a smidgen in the ruck. Its about what I expect from a young kpf with 22 games to his name.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
