Keilty in for weideman and stretch in for jones. We are absolute rubbish. We controlled that quarter and even lost it by a point.

Lockhart and May good,

Oliver , Viney  and Gawn better than last week .

Jetta and Hibberd missing in action again.

In line for a 40 plus point thumping.

Other teams have improved where we have gone backwards

Jones Finished, ANB Gone, Petracca , Fat  and Fritsch no wonder he was dropped for PF Not intensive enough

This is typical of the game day threads I take it? I'm usually too busy watching the game but thought I'd jump on to gauge the mood. I should've known better.

We could be 10 goals up and it would generally be the same.

We look like a scratch team of guys who can play a bit but never have with each other. Just win the contested ball and hack it forward and hope. Unrecognisable from last year.

It's very hard to put a finger on it. We are uninspiring. Not terrible but closer to it than we are to looking "okay". It's like we're right near the corner to playing good football but are just as close to the corner of awful football. We're neither coming nor going at this point. We're stuck in neutral.

Dunno how we can be even this close when, apparently, 20 of the 22 selected are pathetic, terrible and VFL standard.

This close ???

That is what we are at the moment. Because we had no good form or confidence,  coming into the season.

I have to say it.  Jones is a liability.  It has nothing to do with his skills or his body.  It's all between his ears.  He's playing stupid.  He's making idiotic decisions repeatedly and it's costing us goals.

I also have to take a shot at the umpires.  There have been a few absolutely disgraceful decisions in there.  The high contact free against Lockhart on Selwood when he tackled him around the waist was a particularly fine example.  The multiple clear throws by players who were clearly in the umpires' line of sight also stand out to me, in particular the one inside our 50 which should have resulted in a shot on goal.

And finally, why the Hell do our layers refuse to take shots?  If you get hte ball on 50, FFS TAKE THE SHOT!  Hitting up the hot spot is the same as turning around and kicking the ball towards the opposition's goal.

Not sure they are the real problem, it’s bigger than that.

Same old story...

Geelong dominate a quarter, pile on goals like nobodies business

We dominate a quarter, and we grind away for a further 1 point deficit

Even last year, we had to absolutely smash teams around the ball to consistently put it on the scoreboard, we don’t have the outside game required yet.

We are not dominating hit outs and centre clearances and from there contested possessions so we are struggling. Familiar story.

Think everyone needs to calm down

lot of players underdone I for one didn’t expect to win this.

we have been pretty awful yes but we are winning clearances tackles and inside 50s.

Yep. My expectations were not high after the preseason and last week. I think we are actually playing ok compared to last week.

In no way do I think we are good. Just not terrible. If it was the same as last week I would be very worried for the rest of the year.

Just hoping we can keep up the intensity.

We consistently win inside 50 counts but simply don’t do anything with the opportunities created

    HIGHLIGHTS/LOWLIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Melbourne traveled across the continent to take on the Fremantle Dockers in sweltering conditions at Mandurah south of Perth in a game that delivered the club both its highlight and its lowlight in the first minute.  But first, let’s start by doing away with the usual cliches used in connection with the game. It was just a practice match and the result didn’t matter. Bad kicking is bad football. The game was played in severe heat, the swirly breeze played havoc with both teams resulting in

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
