I know it was only 1 game, but the 6-6-6 looked a winner, but I reckon it'll really hurt teams without strong clearance players. Where it will really hit teams are when their bets are off for a rest or moved out of position. Cripps is a gun but Carlton will struggle badly when he's off, Essendon don't seem to have anyone besides Shiel and that's probably not is best role. It could really hurt GC, Hawks (who along with Ess) are the weakest centre clearance teams (IMO), while Carl, Freo, Geel, Nth, StK and Dogs really rely on 1 or 2 guns, so could struggle when they are out of the centre.

Fortunately I reckon we've got the best clearance mids in the comp - Oliver, Viney, Brawshaw, Jones and Harmes, with relieve from Trac, Salem, Lewis and ANB possible. With Gawn dominate I reckon these rules are playing right into our recruiting strategy over the last 4 or 5 years.

Star.

Wonder if they finally nailed a pick 1, or blew it again on a boring plodder that never rose to superstardom (ie.  Kreuzer, Gibbs, Murphy)

the following stat from the AFL site on tonight's game at half time is interesting given that many thought that scoring from kick ins would be easier with the new rules:

"Neither team has launched a score from its defensive 50. Geelong's 26 defensive 50 chains have resulted in just three inside 50s while West Coast's 17 defensive 50 chains have also just resulted in three inside 50s "

I know that we shouldn’t condone violence but Dangerfield’s head. Everytime I see it it gets more annoying looking.

I walked past the oval a bit earlier with my dogs but they wouldn’t let me in, even after I told them my dogs were cleaner and less feral than West Coast supporters and their kids.

Very early call, but Walsh looks a class above all of those. I think they've nailed it, but can they develop it?

Same old, same old Eagles on top but, despite their loss tonight, I wouldn’t discount the Cats just yet. Remember, they’re still in the top 4.

ET not sure you’ve ever been allowed into that venue but looks like a cracking ground to watch footy at.

I’ve wandered down and watched a few WAFL games at the ground, it’s a great place to catch a game at. I recently found out it opened three months after the Gallipoli landing, just a bit of trivia thrown in there.

Forgive the ignorance but do they award anything for the team that finishes on top?

I have a vague memory of them awarding the team on top a few year back after they had done away with the knockout format of the preseason comp.

north-saints is not a good game to watch

only interesting thing to note so far about it is that both teams really are lining up with pure 'wingmen' - polec doesn't even move from his spot until he's worked out which way it's going - and having some space i50 to move in if there is a quick clearance might be the making of mccartin

edit: oh, and tyson can still win the ball in the contest but still can't kick, and kent remains a solid small pressure forward

Both Dom and Kent have had pretty good outings for their respective teams today, but it hasn't changed the fact that they weren't best 22 for us and, in Dom's case, I think he'll still struggle for game time when others return.

Game is in Port Pirie which is even hotter. And they schedule the Tasmanian game for the evening!

I can't believe I'm saying this and I know it's early in the JLT praccy matches, but the lack of contests are making the game a bit tame.It seems it's end to end footy with no real oomph. Have I gone too early on this??
