Relax everyone. The AFLX is for the kiddies.ย

If youโ€™re over 18 years of age, look away.

That seems to be a correct assumption as a target market; however, I think the age bracket could be reduced to Under 12s at the maximum but this should be done with caution because it may erupt into an event of social divisiveness.

The target audience are fat comic book nerds who still live at home that donโ€™t normally watch sport.

Recognising that now the tennis is over, footy ramps up, Melbourne's Herald Sun has a puff piece today of 50 things to watch for in season 2019. The most interesting one for me was the comment about Gill McLachlanย having a "shocker" in 2018 and that he would need to perform better in 2019.ย  My own view is that, whether it's fair or not, he might be on shakier ground than the public realises with the AFL Commission expecting better than he's been able to deliver to date. The obsession with AFLX and its promotion ahead of AFLW is one example where I think he's misread the market. And while he deserves credit for what he's done with AFLW, heย now risks reputational damage with the changes made (such as the conference system) and losing all the deserved praise.ย

If the new rule changes are considered to have "failed", I expect thisย time next year to be commenting on a new AFL Chief Executive.

The four AFLX 2019 captains will build their superhero teams via a nationally broadcast Draft on Wednesday February 6. The Draft will be on 7Mate, Fox Footy, AFL.com.au & AFL Live App from 7pm AEDT.ย

Fair dinkum unbelievable.

ย I call this the โ€œreverse draftโ€ because Iโ€™ll be watching it hoping that we donโ€™t have any players picked.

ย

Does anyone know how this actually works in regards to howย players get nominated for the draft? Do clubs list a certain amount available?

Only thing I know is a limit ofย four players will be eligible from each club. I reckon weโ€™ll hear Frittaโ€™s name get called out.

You're cynical Demonland. But that doesn't mean you're wrong.

ย

My interest level for AFLX is extremely low BUT if the AFL were interested in it having interest the best way I could see it happening is to have it as a State of origin deal and it moves location every year so each state gets to host it.ย

Would at least get some more interest from the random South Australian that hates Victoria.ย

These teams names and they way they're marketing it is so incredibly cringe worthy. It's like a parent trying to hard to connect with their kids.ย

On the basis of an earlier post, I'd like to see the MFC make a stand and boycott this competition on the basis that one of the teams has been picked solely on the basis of race, while none of the other teams have. In this day and age of inclusion and racial tolerance, we should not be seen to be promoting race as a point of difference. I am really strongly opposed to this concept.

If it had been a state of origin basis, as others have said, then ok - it would still be a [censored], but ok.

The original concept was already pretty awful: this "revamp" by Gill and Shocking reminds me of the adage : "You can't polish a turd"!

Only 3 Dees picked in the AFLX mock draft. May, Jetta and Petracca.

I don't know whether to be insulted or relieved.

Thatโ€™s a great result for us.

Hopefully May, Jetta and Trac report โ€˜general sorenessโ€™ on match-day and we can have a clean sweep!

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecastโ€”20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze โ€” expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kateโ€™s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwoodโ€™s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

Narrm time isnโ€™t a standard conceptโ€”itโ€™s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

  • AFLW REPORT: St. Kilda

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking. ย We filled our boots with percentage โ€” now a whopping 520.7% โ€” and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourneโ€™s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasnโ€™t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's ย six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his teamโ€™s unfulfilled potential rang true โ€ฆ well, almost.ย
