    With the departure of Hogan this was always on the cards - wait for the Collingwood rumours to surface soonĀ

    So far he's kicked 17 goals in 21 games and his ruck work, as we saw last week, needs a lot of work.

    The Pies wouldn't offer more than 300K a season for him on those figures, but if they are really keen then I'd suggest we offer a direct swap for Mason Cox!

    He better start clunking more marks and kicking more goals otherwise I'd be happy to make a trade. He has lots of potential but that is all he has shown at the moment. 1 good final does not write your own contract.

    lol. you lot. why is everyone talking about his statistics to date when it's clearly about his potential going forward? He has shown he has potential and lets be honest, he is probably worth that amount to us. Especially with the loss of Hogan.Ā

    Weid's potential is there and he would need to produce a good consistent block of games this year and score many goals 50 plus to be thought of a 700 k contract.Ā  He is level headed and knows what he has to do to earn respectĀ  and his keep on the field.

    Never say never however he is well entrenched atĀ  the Demons.

    Maybe not totally out of the question if he plays well, Ā but need to see how the season unfolds. (Boyd got a mill a season or something didnā€™t he? Probably 30%+ less than what Lynch gets)

    Need to lock in the key drivers ( particularly key forwards) and he could turn out to be one. Must admit l hate it when he goes into the ruck.

    Bit of a dopey ā€˜stir the potā€™ leak at this point though IMO ,as itā€™s all up to the Weid.

    Nothing much to see ATM ,he would need to lift performance to get many suitors ( if indeed its him they are talking about) on output to date.

    On the other hand imagineĀ $700k would get you a very good replacement for him.

    Luckily Weeds is a level headed young man. He will take a contract at 350K for a couple of years and back himself to develop and get a better deal.

    If Cox plays well Collingwood will not be interested. There will be interest from other clubs irrespective of how well he plays.

    My thoughts are that he will back himself and take a two year deal at around $4-500k and punt on the next deal as his payday.

    that'd be a terrible deal if he was a manager; below the average wage

    he's a key forward, which are pretty rare, and our whole structure is built around him and t mac

    i'm very confident he'll sign up

    I would have hoped that the Weed would be on a performance-based contract - he is there to kick goals and he ain't got none, yet. He is not worth that amount. Preuss could do it all for him and then some with a little practice. Weid is not in the league of Jacovich, Lyon, Schwarta, Bennett or even Whacko Jacko who in relative terms did bigger things for lesser amounts, more often. I, for one, don't think we need him that much if we could settle our game style and use the current crop of players more wisely at selection.

    Mods, how can this thread remain open? Ā There is no indication that this "whisper"Ā is about Weideman, and is only going to cause unnecessary arguments what the player is worth. Ā It's also showed that people will take personal potshots at the kid.

    This thread will get out of control even more than what it is presently.

    My guess is that if he kicks 50 plus goals this year he will be signed for around 600k. (2 year deal).

    Hogan's departure freed up some money on the salary spreadsheet which took a hit last year at the extensions of Tom McDonald and Brayshaw both of which were almost certainly contracted at a higher figure than what we would have budgeted for a year before

      There was a time in the second quarter of the game at the Cattery on Friday afternoon when the Casey Demons threatened to take the game apart against the Cats. The Demons had been well on top early but were struggling to convert their ascendancy over the ground until Tom Fullartonā€™s burst of three goals in the space of eight minutes on the way to a five goal haul and his best game for the club since arriving from Brisbane at the end of 2023. He was leading, marking and otherwise giving his opponents a merry dance as Casey grabbed a three goal lead in the blink of an eye. Fullarton has now kicked ten goals in Caseyā€™s three matches and, with Melbourneā€™s forward conversion woes, he is definitely in with a chance to get his first game with the club in next weekā€™s Gather Round in Adelaide. Despite the tall forwardā€™s efforts - he finished with 19 disposals and eight marks and had four hit outs as back up to Will Verrall in the second half - it wasnā€™t enough as Geelong reigned in the lead through persistent attacks and eventually clawed their way to the lead early in the last and held it till they achieved the end aim of victory.

      I was disappointed to hear Goody say at his post match presser after the teamā€™s 39 point defeat against Geelong that "we're getting high quality entry, just poor execution" because Melbourneā€™s problems extend far beyond that after its 0 - 4 start to the 2025 football season.Ā There are clearly problems with poor execution, some of which were evident well before the current season and were in play when the Demons met the Cats in early May last year and beat them in a near top-of-the-table clash that saw both sides sitting comfortably in the top four after round eight.Ā Since that game, the Demonsā€™ performances have been positively Third World with only five wins in 19 games with a no longer majestic midfield and a dysfunctional forward line that has become too easy for opposing coaches to counter. This is an area of their game that is currently being played out as if they were all completely panic-stricken.
