Had an appointment over there so dropped in to watch before and see how Dom Tyson is tracking

Same Dom, inside mid, looked a class above, some good clearances, great handball choice and a couple of butchered kicks, long range left foot goal

Polec the standout, Aaron Hall trying too hard, tried one of his mazy runs, his opponent must have watched his vision, absolutely smashed him in a tackle

Other one to stand out was Boomer Harvey

Some of the ball movement was ponderous

Pretty good indication on why I think intraclubs are a waste of time and why I like that we're playing against the Pies instead.

Ball movement is usually hopeless, everyone knows where it's going so there's no test or creativity.

New players with a point to prove often stand out.

Ring ins (in our case mostly from Casey) play and get in the way or get beat up on. I remember Shannon Byrnes kicking a bag on a Casey kid that meant nothing for the season starting.

I watched the Geelong v MFCC game at Geelong we won in 2015(?) the other night.  It was terrific but it reminded me of why I was so bullish about Dom, he was very good.  Gus played a fantastic game as well and it was easy to forget how good he was when he couldn't really play for a couple of years.  But watching that game showed that last year was just what you'd expect.  Vince and Jones carried the midfield and Viney played a tagging role on Selwood.  Gawn of course had his break out game.

But Dom can play and I'd not be surprised if he has a good year now that he's back where he plays his best footy.

I wish Dom all the best.

Playing AFL in the midfield with a broken bone takes a lot of guts.

He did alright too

only so many spots on the field...

Agree and said as much to north workmates, he is a good soldier but would you have him in the side over Oliver, Brayshaw, Harmes, Viney, Jones... nope was the answer.

I was amazed how well he played that day considering the injury.

I would be scared to walk down the street with abusted hand, Let alone play Senior AFL Footy

Always welcome back to the MFC anytime in the future in my view.

Our mids just became too good, no slight on Dom

Writing this must be like kissing your sister, @Satyriconhome?

thanks for the Don watch.  I wish him well.  Like wishing a goldfish in a swirling toilet of backed up turds well.

i wonder what you saw that stands them out vs MFC, plus and minus, from your brief observation?

Really?  NM surprised everyone last year and have added some good players.  I wouldn't be surprised if they did okay this year.

It was an Intraclub as others have stated, Boomer was two plays ahead on 3 occasions to take intercepts

Polec will be an asset, same with Dom, Hall needs to put the handbrake on a bit from what I saw, trying too hard

An interesting observation, they did the huddle with a chant like MFC not the vibrancy or enthusiasm from all, unlike us, maybe a sign of a team that hasn't quite gelled

After a couple of injuries they sat Ben Brown down for second half

All the best to Tyson. He was a good servant of the MFC and assisted in a not small way in our rebuild. I believe he did not want to leave either.

Has always always seemed like a good bloke too. It shows how far we have come that players of his standard are now surplus to our requirements.

Exciting times ahead!

Watched that myself as well in the last few days.  Great game.  I had an inclining that we would be quite compeditive that day and didn’t fully expect that we would pull it off, but was absolutely stoked when we did.

Nibbler also played an absolute blinder that day, kicking something like four goals in his second game, a useful game, with a good goal under pressure from Billy Stretch  (so hopeful he can break into the side this year).  However, I agree that it was a brilliant and gritty game from Brawshaw that was the biggest sign of things to come.  He rode some big bumps and tackles from mature footballers that game, but never flinched and got straight back up, layed hits of his own, some great running and finishing off goals after breaking through the 50m line - signature Gus.

I also appreciated seeing a few like Matt Jones and Lyndon Dunn contributing  useful games for the side.

Didn't realise Boomer was going around for another year.

A truly good/great player who always gives you a good game. For years I would lament that you could not point at any Melbourne player and say they would play well irrespective of a win or loss.I think in the likes of Oliver and perhaps one or two others (Jetta)  we can start to say that about some of the Melbourne players.

Shows we are moving in the right direction.

Thanks Saty for an interesting thread

obviously still can play the game

No doubt, he’s the ultimate professional. About 10 years ago when I was in defence he gave a talk to my unit, his preparation and the way he approached training was insane.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
