Like the sound of Deven Robertson. seems like a lot of inside midfielders at the pointy end so wonder do we go best avaliable even if we are well stocked in that area or do we draft someone a little early that fits a need?

8. Deven Robertson
Best position: Inside midfield
Height, weight: 182cm, 80kg
Recruited from: Perth
Projected draft range: 5-30
Plays like: Adam Treloar
July Rankings: 8
Rationale: Nephew of Darren Glass, Robertson is one of the most productive ball-winning midfielders in the pool. Winning the Larke Medal for the best player during the Under-18 Championships, Robertson was as consistent and influential as any during the carnival
Strengths: Production, attack on the ball, contested ball winning, freakish reflexes on ground ball pickups, stoppage work, work rate, endurance, speed, agility, evasion, tackling, pressure around the ground, distribution by hand, moves the ball on quickly, courage, leadership on and off the field
Weaknesses: Scoreboard impact, ball use under pressure, unclear versatility

I like the look of Tom Green he’s already out for 4 2 6 next season. He is the perfect fit.

Could be our new AVB! ?

He’s going to GWS through academy though, so he’s not an option. As a pure inside ball winner too he’s not really what we need from a list balance perspective.

Perfect replacement for Coniglio for them tho

If we end up with pick 3, gw$ might want to trade with us so that they can secure a high end young talent as well as Greene

Forget the likes of Kelly, Cameron, Greene of the Toby variety or Taranto and the like, but who else could we prize free I wonder...

Whitfield for pick 3?

Not sure if they'd let Whitfield go whatwhatsaywhat. He'd be a great get though. He's pure class on the outside!

It's embarrassing how much talent GWS has in their midfield compared to ours ? Imagine having losing Treloar, Adams, Shiel, and Coniglio... and still having Kelly, Ward, Taranto, Hopper, Whitfield, Williams, Caldwell etc coming through. They've really been given an insane amount of concessions compared to Gold Coast. We could only dream of having as much talent in our midfield as they've got/had.

I really don't understand why we're not having a serious crack at Coniglio. He's an grade midfielder who is a free agent so cost us nothing in terms of picks. We should be throwing the kitchen sink at him. The only reason we wouldn't is because we [censored] up out salary cap payments and don't have money to go get him.

so caleb serong for our pick #3?

If we miss out on Anderson with pick 2 and go to the draft with pick 3, I would rather pick up Young or Ash. Both could slot into a HBF in their first year and could push to a wing later on. Serong has had a great year from what I have read but wouldnt compliment what we already have.

Agree with everything in your post Lord Travis. Whitfield is exactly what we need unfortunately don’t think they would let him go. Coniglio is also a gun and I also can’t believe we aren’t having a crack at him. I think unfortunately we have got our list build and structure slightly wrong. I mean Richmond have Dusty on about 1.2 to 1.3m a year and yet are able to juggle new contracts to there key big name players so they are able to bring in a gun free agent in Lynch. Meanwhile we have played finals once in thirteen years, shedding you would think reasonable salary cap space with Lewis gone Jones on a much lower contract and still not linked to the best available free agent.

It’s Anderson definitely #1 Rowell or Ash at #2. Serong is ok but adds nothing to our desperate needs.

Outside run and delivery of the footy. Ash fits the mould we need.

Rowell and Anderson are back for Oakleigh this week. Half time against Sandy and Rowell has 16 touches ad 6 tackles and Anderson has 15 and a goal.

It's live on the NAB League app if anyone's interested.

And Rowell & Anderson drag Oakleigh over the line by 7 points in a cracker. 24 touches and 3 critical goals, 28 touches and 10 tackles for Rowell.

Both Anderson and Rowell. We need a Anderson or Ash type of skilled mid to run and deliver.

Anderson is like Dayne Beams/Mitch Duncan type as he can accumulate in the midfield and also score goals.

Rowell is the Joel Selwood type which is great but probably not critical for us.

Ash is your fast effective wing or ruck rover. He could be exactly what we need and ready to go. Have to hope Goodwin doesn’t restrain his burst of pace and go negative. Think of a younger bigger Kade Simpson who likes to run

whoever it is, they need to help break this statistic i just saw on twitter

The last Rising Star nomination for MELB was Oscar McDonald in 2016 (their 4th nom that year) Every other club has had at least one nomination since the start of the 2018 season

Seeing how Oscar has turned out, wouldn't it just highlight that RS nominations mean stuff all.

If Anderson is available and we don't pick him we may as well shut up shop. Or re-draft Lucas Cook

Well that's pretty clear RTG!!!

I just read up on him. Decent size, can kick a goal and a bit of run apparently.

Is he  the outside runner/wingman we desperately need?

I spoke to an AFL recruiter today, his thoughts:

1. Rowell

2 Young

3. Anderson

he said Young is a beautiful kick and that Anderson has power but can burn the ball, also mentioned top 3 relatively close then a small gap to next few prospects.

The Murray Bushrangers and Dandenong Stingrays went head to head today with the stingrays winning by 21 points.

While i love Noah Anderson as my number tip, two of my favourite players in the draft in Lachie Ash and Hayden Young along went head to head against each today.

Lachie Ash had 29 disposals 5 marks and 5 tackles playing as a pure on baller. Ash is boasting his draft stocks the past few weeks as he was more renowned as a dashing half back at the start of year and has now since played as a midfielder since the champs.

Hayden Young had 21, 3 marks and 6 tackles playing as a half back wingman. Another who has also been given midfield minutes and showing great signs that he can push onto a midfield outside role in years to come. His ball efficiency is one of the best in the draft.

I’m a big fan of Lachie Ash. It’s not the end of the world if we miss out on Anderson. Young also looks good but Ash suits us better IMO

I’ve been a fan of Hayden Young since the Casey Demons v Australia game earlier in the season. It’s either him or Lachlan Ash for me assuming the AFL has already decided to give pick 2 to Gold Coast (notwithstanding that they haven’t even applied yet).

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
