Just been delisted by the suns.

If you're wanting inside midfield depth then i would personally give Lyons a crack. Rate him better then Sheridan or Weller as he actually had some good numbers this year until surprisingly dropped.

Cannot believe they have cut him.

I dont think he is suited to our team, but gee wiz he would have been handy for them this year.

Another who fell out with Dew. A very good footballer with close ties to the Dees. Snap him up.

Unless there are other issues at play surely there'll be a few clubs lined up for him. I'd say we'd be low on the list given he plays in an area of our strength, but I'd be very happy for him to come in as depth. Seems a strange move from the Suns, maybe there are issues with Dew?

Would know Jake Lever and been with May and Kolo for the past couple of years. Maybe those boys can have a chat with him?

We are a different proposition now. A destination club going places. Very attractive one would think.

Duplicated

We tried to get him over from Adelaide at least twice.  We may have gone past him now but he’d be an upgrade on JKH, Wagner and Stretch.

Number of games from debut to reach the top 20 of the Player Ratings

1. Marcus Bontempelli (Western Bulldogs) – 35 matches
2. Max Gawn (Melbourne) – 57
3. Tom Liberatore (Western Bulldogs) – 64
4. Zac Williams (Greater Western Sydney) – 67
=5. Jack Steven (St Kilda) – 68
=5. Josh Kennedy (Sydney) – 68
6. Nic Naitanui (West Coast) – 71
7. Trent Cotchin (Richmond) – 74
=9. Dylan Shiel (Greater Western Sydney) – 75
=9. Jarryd Lyons (Gold Coast) – 75

finally a delisted player worth targetting adds good depth

Could be handy depth but he doesn't play the same role as any of these players.

I would much prefer him in the team as opposed to Maynard though.

Logical.

With the worst midfield I think I have ever seen, surely Dew could have got more use out of Lyons and Barlow in particular

Could be an absolute bargain....

Agree.

Replaces Tyson, but with better disposal and higher numbers. 3rd in AFL for clearances and 9 th for contested possession.

Also costs no draft pick.

Could be a very handy pickup.

Why the hell was he cut from the Suns? Legitimately would've been one of their top 5-10 players at this point I would've thought!

"Lyons averaged almost 25 disposals a game last season and was ranked equal-third in the AFL for clearances (7.3) and ninth for contested possessions (13.6)".

We were keen on him a few years ago. He'd be good depth and is a proven performer. Definitely the pick of the bunch as far as delisted players goes.

Lions have done well lately other than losing Beams. This is another bonus for them.

If people are posting news like Lyons' three year deal, would you mind linking to a source, so it lends your post more credence? Thanks.

And FWIW, Lyons is the perfect depth player for us. He's not A grade, but he doesn't have obvious weaknesses either (unlike Townsend).

Father played for us back in the day (70s, I think).

I didn't know Garry was that old...

You really do need to make your mind up, during the season you have players who are not A graders as list cloggers

How many inside mids do you want, we were confident enough to offload Dom Tyson

Must have been delisted for a reason

Hi Saty. How are you going?

I've never used the term list clogger in my posting days, so don't be too sensitive. I had Kent and Bugg on the fringe and have been on record as saying Bugg would go. He did.

I'm not going to play the man here, so I'll merely say we were confident enough to offload Tyson because we could get a much cheaper replacement and at the same time, land Preuss in the deal. Tyson was most likely a salary cap dump.

Thanks for the source on the Lyons trade.

Yep I agree A huge upgrade on Dom Tyson smart player and if I'm correct, son of ex Demon Marty Lyons who was an excellent player! If my memory serves me correctly Marty Lyons kicked 4 on debut vs Hawks at Princess Park.

Yep GO FOR HIM!!

  • REPORT: Richmond

The fans who turned up to the MCG for Melbourne’s Anzac Day Eve clash against Richmond would have been disappointed if they turned up to see a great spectacle. As much as this was a night for the 71,635 in attendance to commemorate heroes of the nation’s past wars, it was also a time for the Melbourne Football Club to consolidate upon its first win after a horrific start to the 2025 season. On this basis, despite the fact that it was an uninspiring and dour struggle for most of its 100 minutes, the night will be one for the fans to remember. They certainly got value out of the pre match activity honouring those who fought for their country. The MCG and the lights of the city as backdrop was made for nights such as these and, in my view, we received a more inspirational ceremony of Anzac culture than others both here and elsewhere around the country.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The match up of teams competing in our great Aussie game at its second highest level is a rarity for a work day Thursday morning but the blustery conditions that met the players at a windswept Casey Fields was something far more commonplace. They turned the opening stanza between the Casey Demons and a somewhat depleted Richmond VFL into a mess of fumbling unforced errors, spilt marks and wasted opportunities for both sides but they did set up a significant win for the home team which is exactly what transpired on this Anzac Day round opener. Casey opened up strong against the breeze with the first goal to Aidan Johnson, the Tigers quickly responded and the game degenerated into a defensive slog and the teams were level when the first siren sounded.

After five consecutive defeats, the Demons have now notched up back-to-back victories, comfortably accounting for the Tigers in the traditional ANZAC Eve clash. They surged to a commanding 44-point lead early in the final quarter before easing off the pedal, resting skipper Max Gawn and conceding the last four goals of the game to close out a solid 20-point win.
