that wouldn't help the bank balance but ladder wise would be a great outcome.

The home games if they were to eventuate would almost certainly be in NT

After this year I think the Geelong match(es) will be massive. They have no choice but to either play at the G, or most likely play twice. Agree with others, we're overdue a home game Vs Essendon as well.

Yes, we play one of the best game styles of anyone - maybe even the best. We have personalities like Gawn and Petracca, and great stories like Nathan Jones. Finals campaign 2018 showed a massive ( and growing) supporter base.

But the AFL and Channel 7 are obsessed with a small group of teams, a handful of their preferred stars, and money from advertising on Friday and Saturday nights. They have never got past the 1970's power teams on TV - Collingwood, Carlton and Richmond, and then they added Essendon and later Hawthorn. Everything - and I mean everything - revolves around the AFL promoting these teams with their (supposed) massive followings and the money that follows them.

Traditionally, MFC, Saints, Port, Bulldogs, Dockers & Lions are at best 2nd or 3rd considerations in all things AFL.

We will get a game versus Freo in Perth before round 5. Channel 7 will gush all over this.

We will get 2 - 3 Friday night games but maybe only one against a blockbuster club.

And the AFL simply do not care about our NT initiative, it is fully empowered by MFC. We have been lucky to get Adelaide involved this year but after that flogging I can't see them signing up again. Probably Suns, Port or North in NT.

I simply do not trust the AFL with fixturing. Even the Eagles will get no favours - while Collingwood will be polished and primed.

I would love to be wrong.

For that to work you have to decide which of the other Melbourne clubs will make the trip down the highway.

I see Carlton played at Kardinia Park this year so they are not available as a "new lamb". Leaves the likes of Richmond, Essendon, Collingwood and Hawthorn as candidates.

Understand Geelong had 9 home games at Kardinia Park in 2018 so getting them to play us at "home" at the MCG would be unlikely.

The Melbourne based clubs they played at Kardinia Park were us , Carlton and North.

Interesting to note that other than a loss to the Swans and that 2 point win over the MFC the winning margin for the other games was in the main over 50 plus points.

Perhaps the way to get them would be to design a so called blockbuster... City v Country perhaps (someone already has that... think it's Essendon.)

Frankly I'd prefer to just see the Cats wither at their boutique stadium and be denied the MCG games altogether. One less competitor in the metropolitan area for MFC.

Woops you  could be right. I went back into what I googled yesterday and it said 4 days ago, not four days to go.

Incredibly we haven't played Essendon twice in a season since 2005 and Sydney since 2007. Surely we double up against these two sometime soon.

I understood we have quite a few in for surgery after this season finished. I know Oliver and Lever are expecting late starts (Is Maxy?)  and there must be about 6 others too. Which makes me hope that we arent playing any of the top 4 teams early on. Id rather we have Saints dockers and Blues early up as we will show off plenty of depth. Anyone know some of the timelines?

Our last 3 home and away games against West Coast have been at their home ground. The one before that was our TIO Stadium game and the last time we played them at the G was 2014. We are due for a home game. Happy for that to be at our fortress at Marvel.

I sort of hope we do play a West Coast, Collingwood or GWS early. They all have players go in for surgery and have about the same length of pre-season. 

Playing a Freo or Carlton early means they have had 3 extra weeks training on us, are up and about and are still thinking they may play finals.

The way I see it:

- 13 MCG games

- 2 Marvel games

- 2 NT games (vs Adelaide, vs Freo)

- 1 QLD game (vs Brisbane or GC)

- 1 Sydney game (vs Swans or GWS)

- 2 SA games (Crows and Power)

- 1 WA game (Freo)

That leaves 9 home MCG games and 4 away MCG games.

Home:

- Collingwood

- WC

- Hawthorn

- Geelong

- GC/Brisbane

- GWS/Sydney

- Carlton

- Then one of St Kilda or Bulldogs

 

Marvel away games:

- North 

- One of Saints or Dogs

 

Away MCG games:

- Richmond

- Collingwood

- Essendon

- Carlton

 

Teams we play twice:

- Collingwood

- Carlton

- Crows

- Freo

Sorry MB, i am positive you will be proven to be wrong. Which you will be happy with. So all good.

Carlton will be lucky to get a single night game next year after the ratings disaster this year, not to mention all the criticism the AFL copped for scheduling rubbish games in the primo slots.

Bombers, Pies and Tigers will all get their share of premium FTA  night games, and deservedly so. Hawks too - but again they deserve it. All top teams. What will be different is they will play quality opponents in those slots, which will include the dees. 

With the additional Thursday night games the dees will get plenty of free to air action in the  premier slots. The AFL and Channel 7 will also support the heart of the nation game again and i would be very surprised it e don't play the Crows again.

If that's right, I hope bloody Collingwood get a much tougher fixture, because their fixture was far more favourable than ours. Given they finished higher, I would hope theirs is tougher or comparable.

As long as we play the Lions in Brisbane so I can thaw out, it's a great trip in June???

They will not make the same mistake with buying into the Tigers or Blues or maybe even Cats this coming season.

They are all a downward trend and the chances of Tigers and Cats  being like the Dogs is ever present.

I reckon us and Pies (Cox) will be royalty, no pun intended, this year, 2019, and we haven't even unleashed our basket baller.........

We get to play two clubs from the top six twice, you have nominated the best 2, we get to play two cubs in the middle 6 twice, again you have picked the best 2 and we get to play one club in the bottom 6 twice, you have picked the best side. If we are to finish high on the ladder using your draw we will have earned it. It is also arguably the best way to get it done. Geelong would not be asking for two soft games heading into the finals again this year.
