We've now got key defensive depth and a backup ruckman. Our tall forward stocks are lacking with Hogan and Pederson gone. It's TMac, Weid and Tim Smith. Others options like Frost have been tried forward with no success.

What tall forwards are in this draft outside of those top placed ones like the King bros and Lukocious? Are there options for us in the 20s? This area is now the need for our list.

Bailey Williams has been on the fringes of the first round for much of the year. Has drifted out of the conversation for the top 25 or so, but has potential as a tall forward.

[censored] highlights. But there's something there. A cross between Cameron Ling and Ben Brown was my first impression, but I might be being misled by certain visual primers.

Something that has emerged at MFC over the past 2-3 years is a real honesty about our trading and drafting. Although Viney, Mahoney and Taylor do not say a lot publicly, you can take as gospel the things they do say.  They got exactly what they wanted during the trade period - 3 needs filled with the players they wanted. 7 vacancies left.

Picks 23 & 28 will be drafted players. I see a midfielder and a tall.

Up to 3 of our rookies upgraded - possibly Maynard, T Smith, Keilty.

2 vacant list spots - possibly a mature player out of contract and a project player.

This is the area where there is some uncertainty. I understand that T Smith and Keilty have been given another year on the rookie list so the only question mark is whether Maynard gets the upgrade. Unless the rules have changed, we could go with a primary list of 38 and take more rookies (Category A) to give us total numbers of 44 plus the Category B rookies.

Looks a likely type

Problem being that Buku Khamis is a NGA tied to the Western Bulldogs who are likely to match any bid from 3rd Round plus which is probably where he’ll go.

Bailey Williams, on the other hand, would be worth looking at with Pick 23 or 28.

Bailey Williams has it all - almost. Agile, great mark, does the pack in the air and on the ground, feeds the ball well - and can only get better, has 2-way running, interceptive and challenging, mobile and quick. He'd be a great get.

For mine we need another winger/outside runner, tall forward and small forward/lock-in player.

Moving up the list to hopefully get what the FD have targeted.

Take a look, folks, at Bailey Williams - he'd be my first pick - an all-round taller player with mobility and poise. Speed is good. Very good boot and pass. Potential wingman/outside mid or forward. Young, needs some coaching attention but impressive.

I suggest 38 and more rookies is the way we will go. With the serious depth on our list we can take players at 23 and 28 who are high talent that we accept can put significant development time in over their first contract with no pressure to do anything but develop at Casey.

We will probably decide on the night.  As I understand it rookies are paid less and only get a one year contract.  IF this is right we'll use 40 primary list spots if JT thinks the talent warrants it but won't if he doesn't.

i like the look of ned mchenry and i think jason taylor would too.

Might need to sharpen up his disposal and his set shots.

Is Duursma a descendent of Jamie Duursma from the Demon teams of the 80s-90s?  I seem to remember him doing a great job on Brereton on a big game.

And Valente / Valenti ?  Related to Shane - not sure if it is exactly the same name.

McHenry is a Spargo type. Like Gresham of the Saints.  We have one of these already. Small midfield fwd pocket type. Disposal is 50/50.  Cats might grab him as a local product.

Luke Valente SA U18s skipper is a very good midfielder who will go to either Crows or Power. No relation to “Shane Valenti”.

Xavier Duursma- fingers crossed. Son of Dean Duursma. Nephew of Jamie.

Bailey Williams is probably either going to get picked 13 by Crows, 17 by tigers or 19 by giants. Hard to see him lasting to 23 but never know come the night.

It would be a miracle if we got Williams at 23; he is a genuine target for us.

Best two midfielders available at 23 and 28 please, unless there is a genuine key forward prospect available. History shows that very few speculative key forwards end up being decent players, so we need to be sure if we go down that path. I would much prefer to find the replacements for Jones and Lewis if possible.

You are comparing Spargo to Gresham?

One is extremely talented while one gets the most out of his limited ability.

If McHenry is like Spargo, not interested. If he is like Gresham, he won't be available at our pick.

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
