Was runner-up in the B&F in his second year at GC. The tape of his highlights is worth watching...

Also speaks very well

Go back and have a look at Geelong EF game and you might work it out.

Or if you are going to take that sort of attitude, have a look at the GC v Melbourne game this year - at what point as Jesse and Tom Mac shared eight goals between them, did you think, gee, Steven May is a must have that we will give up heaps for.

That's not to say that Steven May isn't any good, all I'm saying is that if you are going to treat footballers like a meat market (as clubs and fans are forced to do each October) then you have to decide what is the valuable commodity that we need. I would have thought a qualify mid (outside/inside) or a quality running forward/defender was our main priority at the moment.

Effectively in taking May we are saying that with Lever and May in the key defensive spots, let's use up $1.6million plus of our salary cap each year and send O-Mac and Frost to the magoos.

Hogan is gone.

Seems it was going to happen at some stage.

As for the what our priorities are,  KD is one. Frost is not the long term answer and Oscar is limited.

Looking to fix this weakness doesn't mean we aren't looking to fix others.

...and May might not even want to come to us or GC might want too much.

We might have other irons in the fire that no one knows about yet.

Some results papered over our weak defence, others showed it up.

It is a real problem area and most of our fans are on the edge of their seats when the ball goes into to our defensive 50...

Way more excited about us getting KK than May.

I can actually see KK fitting into our side without impacting on key players and he provides pace that we need.

May is also quick for a big bloke, but I don't quite get why we need him - we have Frost, O.Mac, Lever when he returns and Joel Smith and we also have two VFL standard back-ups already - Petty and Kielty.

Is May going to play CHF and be part of the T-Mac, Weid mix? Is O-Mac going to finally to be tried in that role.

Either way I don't get why you'd give a up a first rounder and $800K for May when we are already over-catered for in that area.

But I do get why we would give KK another chance at reigniting a career for $300K and a second or third round pick.

Because May is a reliable key defender and Frost isn't.

Pretty simple.

yeah im happy with that. does that put lewis to casey?

we may play there as bernie did this year, but people seem to not realise how young we are as a side

next year lewis, jones and garlett will be the only players aged 30 plus on our list; by comparison carlton have six players turning 30+ next season, and collingwood have eight - nearly all of whom remain in the respective side's best possible squads

we are still very young and inexperienced and wise old heads like lewis and jones remain valuable at senior level

Lewis' wise old head certainly didnt help against wce. gives a lot of costly and silly frees away.

I have firmly swung around and want us to secure May. There are not too many May's out there.

And yet he was amongst the best in the 2 finals we won. Funny how we only see what we want when our eyes are half closed.

Hopefully he slots on Salem's HBF, to allow Salem to push up onto the wing.

On paper we need some outside run and apparently he can provide this.

However, if GC are happy for him to explore his options, how good is he really?

Given the recent track record of both teams football departments, I reckon we're better at identifying talent. If they say no and we say yes, that's more than enough for me.

Lewis wasn't very wise or composed in the prelim & Jones did very little.

You are only as good as your last game. Lewis was poor.

Everyone was poor in our last game. Not everyone was as good as Lewis the two games before. It's easy to cherry pick individual games

Maybe we can recruit Steele Sidebottom then for a late pick!

This is an excellent get!

There’s a risk there with his medical history, but a potentially huge reward if he can get through it.

Great value.

KK more important than may for mine.

   Jetta Frost Hibbo

Salem   Lever     KK

Omac, Hunt, Smith, Wagner, Petty all improving in the VFL, vying for an opportunity.

I'd be super happy with this backline, plus get in pick 5&6 in the "best draft in two decades".

Plus with no Hogan and May we will have enough cap space to have a real crack at Gaff or Kelly.

May could easily be the difference between another prelim and a grand final or even flag. It’s one last really big weakness

I personally disagree, in the prelim we gave our defenders 0 chance by turning it over in literally the worst spots on the ground. We made it through to the prelim without our number 1 defender in lever. Plus Omac and Frost will continue to improve, i'm particularly optimistic that lever and the best of Omac/Frost can hold down the key positions.

We got destroyed by hawkins that one game, but he was getting perfect delivery, kicking it over his head and from the boundary. I think our team structure/game plan and mental maturity is our area of most improvement. We still need to develop the true ruthless winning habits that the great sides have. I don't think May is the key to our success, i'd rather continue to secure this dynasty by going to the draft, we are in a position to compete for the next 5-8 years IMO.

Does this make Hunt dispensable?

I love Hunt but for the right price would you trade? I hear Carlton are keen.
