Looking at the top photo, looks like he has just got dressed in his new employers uniform and is about to start his shift down at your friendly local supermarket.  Bit of a demotion.

To be fair, I’m really happy for the lad. Yes he’ll likely not ever reach the potential that we hoped he would for us, as he won’t for Freo. But if he does, I’m ok with it as Freo need all the help they can get!

My major concerns were that 1. He couldn’t kick beyond 40m consistently and slot a goal, and 2. His body language and resultant performance lacked professionalism.

Noting his very difficult time over the past few years, 2. Could be forgiven, but deep down 1. Was the one that truly had me concerned and I now place my forward hopes in TMAC and Weed. 

Later buddy, good luck with it, hope you get the most out of being west-side..

Sacrilege to mention around here, but Freo are one of the few teams that i want to win a premiership outside of the Dees. I was barracking hard in 2013 for them, shouting at the telly when they beat Geelong at Kardinia Park, enjoying their crushing pressure game on Sydney. And of course barracking hard for them against Hawthorn in the prelim back in 2015 when it went down to the wire. If they can see some success in the next 7 or so years with Hogan reaching his potential, it would be good for the game and nice that we've played a role in his development.

I went to that game and [censored] a lot of people off in the crowd because I was barracking so hard for Freo, but that was only because they were playing against Geelong. 

I wish them every failure.

I really hope Jesse will be 'OK',  moving forward.

Mark my words, our club and supporters will be celebrating the Hogan and May swap for years to come.

While I wish Hogan all the best and still think he will be an okay footballer, he screams of Watts and Sylvia 2.0. All young players oozing with talent (and taken at high picks) who drank their own cool aid before putting in the hard yards to become the champions they all had the potential to become. 

Many fans, including myself, were sad to see Sylvia and Watts go (like Hogan) when they were traded but our club has grown from strength to strength pushing out these party boys who were stains on the professionalism of our club and the focus we need to win a premiership.

Well done Mahoney and co. Give me lower picks who are are hard working like Gawn, Jetta and Harmes any day of the week.

Albeit not a ‘party boy’, worried about Petracca. Hoping guys like Viney, Brayshaw and Oliver keep him focused to become the superstar we all know he has the potential to become.

Do not underestimate the importance of the leadership, professionalism and hardness that May will bring being a former captain and proud Indigenous Australian. All three traits we need to win the cup and all three traits Hogan lacked. Cannot wait for the May vs Hogan match up when we player the Shockers.

Some good points of foci in what you say, Flag Favourites, where hunger for the game and team exist as performance and effort motivators in a younger breed, steered and stirred up with an array of senior heads who know the hard yards required. We have recruited well; we have the potential talents to be anything that we (and they) want to be in the near and further future.

I agree with the premise of your post. May will be huge for us and is much more of a need going into next year in comparison to Jesse.

However, I question a few points you've made.

To compare Hogan to Watts and Sylvia is completely ridiculous given what Jesse achieved in his first year at AFL level and the fact that he came back to pre-season at our club in unbelievable condition on multiple occasions and was one of our strongest runners. Even this year, his start to the year was unbelievable and he was considered by many as being in AA form. Sylvia and Watts never came close to impacting games the way Jesse has.

This is without mentioning the fact that Hogan missed a year with a back injury, lost his father at the age of 22 and was diagnosed with Cancer in the same year. Is it really a surprise that some of his behaviour has been a little erratic during the off-season? 

Should we make mention of the fact that Gawn used to smoke on the way to training, vomited on Tom Scully due to intoxication and [censored] about for a number of years before the penny dropped? Or that Harmes has publicly admitted that up until the 2018 pre-season, he was never in the condition he needed to be in? Or maybe that Jetta needed a wake-up call by being delisted and given a rookie lifeline to seize his opportunity and put the required work in?

Hogan has experienced events that some of us don't experience until we're well into adulthood.

He is 23 years old, think about that for minute.

Sorry but Steve is already right on this one. Hogans work while at the MFC is proof he was a hard working professional. Add going down to the Holden centre nearly every day by himself to work on his goal kicking and going to watch other AFL games to study how other forwards worked.

He may well fall off the cliff but who would blame him. Only people with NFI.
