This day will be so slow... until the final two hours when, miraculously, all the deals go through as the Foxtel telecast begins!

This also got a run on the racing station in Brisbane this morning. It's the worst kept secret in the AFL.

Where's Gary Pert at the moment? I feel like he should be having a quiet friendly word in the ear of Bell about what's what.

Why would Pert talk to Bell? In fact, why would Pert be involved in football last management or trade meetings fullstop? It's not part of his job,  and he has only been in the place for 2 weeks.

Funnily longer than Bell.

Feels like this is now the trade game day thread. At least we know something will happen today.

Maybe. Using a game day analogy it is possible the game will be called off.

It's okay deanox.

I was just curious if Pert was on board yet.

If so, while I am fully aware list management isn't part of his mandate, and absolutely shouldn't be, my suggestion was that one experienced football administrator could give advice to a strutting newbie about best practices and serving the interests of a footy club rather than a personal ego.

That is all.

A few posters claim they are in a downtrodden minority on whether Hogan stays or goes.  I'm not so sure D'land is one way or the other -  How about a simple poll to enliven what looks like being a slow day?

The other mechanism is trading future (2019) drafts picks for earlier picks this year.

I understand GC have more picks than they can use this year and mostly high picks,  but they need points for next year's academy players.

So 2019 1st rounder might get us overs in this year's draft when we have spots to fill.

Its an interesting point you make. Obviously this has been discussed but I wonder if Suns would be interested in accepting our 2019 first pick along with pick 23 (Freo) and 32 (our first pick) for May and KK and we go to the draft with pick 5. As you say they have heaps of very high picks that can be slightly spread over 2 years.

On another, perhaps more esoteric note, when I lived in Cambodia I would quite often flick a fiver to some street kid to go and fetch me a six-pack and a packet of cigarettes, with the unspoken proviso that he or she could keep the change.

When they returned with my bounty, I didn't once ask how much they scored my desired goods for.

That is this - or at least how it should be viewed.

Maybe he has, or maybe he hasn't ... doesn't need to tell the world anything at this stage anyway.

Maybe it is not his rôle

If you were buying beer and cigarettes for 40,000 people, you’d probably care more about the value for money.

Been a bit of talk of Jono Patton. Is there a chance we will bring him in on the cheap (Pick wise) to help GWS with Salary Cap and transfer some of Jesse’s salary to Jono.

If so would mean we bring in a replacement for Jesse and still gain May KK and other picks.

If people were invested in you they’d be asking questions.

Jeeps, peeps are tense today. Was an off-hand tongue-cheek comment.

For the record, I don't want or expect Pert to get involved.

But love the notion of him taking Bell aside and telling the small child to grow up.

I have no idea what I want to happen today. I know what a talent Jesse is already at 23 and what he potentially could become. I also have a nagging concerns (perhaps my MFCSS) that he won't live up to that potential. I also respect his wanting to "go home" and if that's truly the case then that reason sits better with me then us pushing him out the door.

If we lose him then I want to be compensated fairly but I also realise that sometimes you have to pay overs or get unders just to get the deal done and hopefully it works out in our favour when it all comes out in the wash. Having said that, we always seem to pay overs and get unders but I sort of like that we don't look like [censored] but would sometimes like us to be mongrels at trade time.

Regarding May. I'm constantly going back and forth in my mind. Some days I want him and others I don't. He's older than Jesse but does fill a need but in a straight swap I'd rather keep Jesse. But then another club's name is thrown in the ring for May and that makes me want him more.

Ideally I'd love 2 first rounders for Jesse and then use one for May and use the other in the draft but I'm resigned to the fact that that won't happen. My second wish is for a first rounder for May and another young Freo player but I'm also sure that won't happen. I guess I'll take the first rounder and pick 23.

If Jesse has to leave I'm happier that he is going to Freo than to anyone else where I'm confident he won't do much damage in the short term in the bottom 4.

Thanks.  My computer seems stuck on this thread.  Time to surface and breath.  But I see that poll is on what we want, not what we think will happen.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
