Grand New Flag 3,227 Posted October 16, 2018 Posted October 16, 2018 So Peter Bell has flown in from Perth to get this deal done. There is no doubt he is under serious pressure from his Board, Supporter Base and the other AFL clubs that are relying on the Hogan deal to get their trades done. The MFC can’t blink. We must stare down at very least picks 5, 23 and 30. In my view this is still cheap, but this does allow the MFC to complete its aims for the trading period. 4 1 Quote

Honestly it’s not a pick 5 upgrade from OMac to May. J Kennedy - 5.3 Cam Mcarthy 3 goals J Battle - 3 Goals J Cameron - 6.3 B Brown - 4.2 M Baguley -3.2 (Daniher out) Tom McDonald - 5.1 J Riewoldt - 10.6 E Hipwood - 3 As i have been at pains to say about our backline, in modern footy defenders have no chance when their team mates are not applying manic all ground pressure, tackling, gut running to stop uncontested marks (and stopping run on when they can't stop the mark) and in particular pressure on that last kick inside 50. Look at what happened when our numbers in those categories fell off a cliff in the prelim. Well that was the tale for most of the year for GC games. I happened to watch some of the GC v tiger game and there was zero pressure from GC. Riewold will probably never have an easier game. I reckon i could could have kicked one or two such was the lack of pressure (that's a joke btw). Also the GC zone is a mess, which can't help the big defender much, nor can the fact they do't really have an strong intercept defender. . All that said, to be honest i don't watch a huge of amount of footy other than dees games. So i don't really have a good sense of how good May really is. If i have a concern it is that he as knocked two blokes into next week and received deservedly long suspensions. Speaks of someone who has control issues. However, I trust the club to make the right call and have full confidence if they are keen to get him then he is the right player for our club and will improve our chances of the ultimate success. I had the same response to the trading in of Lever. 2 Quote
Adam The God 30,730 Posted October 16, 2018 Posted October 16, 2018 Ideally, we'd be paying under market value for May's contract given we're helping him out of the GCS disaster and giving him a shot at a premiership(s). That is what being a destination club is. I'd hope that Hogan is the only player we've got on significantly larger money and it sounds like Lever was up there too, but my main concern is holding onto our core midfield group in Oliver, Brayshaw, Gawn, Viney, Harmes and Petracca. I'd hope therefore that a number of our players would take slightly under market value to stay together. 3 Quote

Agree with this all the pressure is on the little man. 5, 23 & 30 has to be a minimum!!! 5 & 11 is still what I would be pushing for as this really is his value. I really get the sense that Mahoney will blink first however & fold with just pick 5 or 5 & 23 and we end up losing Hogan for May & change. 1 Quote
Gator 18,053 Posted October 16, 2018 Posted October 16, 2018 I wonder how many of those poster who don't rate May wanted to play Pedersen every week and were livid when Watts was put on the market ? I'm guessing strong correlations. ? 6 1 Quote

We then pass on pick 8 to Suns and go to the draft with pick 13. That would be a good result. We got [censored] off with Freo trading down from pick 6 and offering us pick 11 yet you want us to do the same to GC (trade down from 5 and offer 8)? 2 Quote

I’m sort of in the camp of being willing to accept slight unders for hogan to get May across the line because I think if he comes, we are a better chance of winning the 2019 premiership. I guess if the club were asking for pick 5 &23 for hogan or whatever of course you’d sacrifice pick 23 worst case scenario for a couple of % better chance at a flag next year 2 Quote

Gold Coast are a terrible terrible team. The ball spends more time in their backline than anywhere else on the field. On a side note, if we trade Hogan for just pick 5, it tells me there is something NQR with him and we want him gone. 1 Quote
buck_nekkid 6,101 Posted October 16, 2018 Posted October 16, 2018 So, do we value Hogan to us at $1 mio per year? What would we need to see him deliver for this to be fair pay? Quote
olisik 4,060 Posted October 16, 2018 Posted October 16, 2018 Gc have done 4 trades in the last few hours. I serioiusly hope Mahoney has other trades in the works outside of the obvious Hogan/KK/May ones we are aware about. Quote

Not talking about last year, but I guess your memory does not go far, before dusty won the brownlow his contract was for far less then after brownlow win, he did not even speak to GWS last year, it was north Melbourne, and he rejected them. So before u think about making someone look silly, u better know what they are talking about. Quote

Get the actual value of our contracted star forward & then pay a fair price for May.... Why should we sacrifice to get the deal done? Why isn't Freo sacrificing to ship Neale off to get Hogan & Lobb in? Why isn't Brissy sacrificing and just paying overs to get Neale? Why isn't Collingwood sacrificing & paying overs to bring Beams home? Quote

However I think we would be an even bigger chance for improvement by negotiating properly ,as well as maintaining a little negotiating respect . After all we seem to have come a long way from our opening negotiating position and it shouldn't be necessary for us to totally prostitute ourselves, particularly considering how Freo have conducted themselves throughout the process. 1 Quote
