Correct OldDee.

Anyone fretting over Hogan not yet nominating Freo or “making a decision” need to understand that no such announcement will be made until the two clubs agree on a deal.

There is still a small outside chance he stays in red and blue. He’s contracted. It’s really out of his hands at this point.

I reckon we’re going to push for Freo’s pick 5 and 2019 first rounder while they will be pushing pick 5 & 14 this year. Let’s see who blinks first. There is a heap of pressure on them now to get this deal over the line. Missing out on Jesse would be calamitous for them.

Just wait it out Dees.

It's only my opinion but I think ive a better chance of winning lotto than we have of prising 5 and 14 off freo this year. Id take that 5 and  2019 1st rounder...in a heartbeat. They arent climbing a ladder quickly anytime soon ;)

If I was at all prescient my guess is:

Melbourne give up Hogan and 3rd round pick to Freo

Freo handover  decent 1st round pick and a "player"

Why I think this works is both sides can claim to be a winner.  We get our man May and another player. They get their Hogan and change.

The 'player' becomes the talking point then as to who did better and not Hogan.

We're fine as we need players not picks imho

No chance this gets to 400. There would have to be someone posting every few minutes :p

You initially said Hogan would leave next year as a free agent. I corrected you and said he is not a free agent next year.

There is still a difference between a free agent and a player who isn't a free agent but nominates a club of choice. The club of choice will still have to figure out a deal to trade the player in. If Hogan stays and decides to leave at the end of next year nominating Freo do you think we will just accept pick 30 for him? How much did we pay to get Lever? Pies with Treloar? Clubs have to be reasonable otherwise they will damage their credibility.

Sorry yes. I understand free what the different contractual status mean. I also understand restricted and unrestricted.

What im saying is if freo and hogan are smart then they wait one more year.

Buddy to swans for pick 18 or whatever the fa compo was is the most likely scenario imo for hogan to move.

And thats why flogs like mcclure are talking hogan out nd may in. Freo would need something serious to happen from the hogan camp to give up 2 high picks. It makes more sense to wait until next yr when hogans uncontracted.

Freo and hogan have the power in these negotiations is all im trying to say. The power is with the players

I’m with you there B’bub. My guess is also pick 5 & 2019 first rounder. They should back themselves to rise up the ladder with Hogan just like Adelaide put the onus on us doing with Lever. Happy to then throw in some steak knives swapping later picks if it helps them save a bit of face and sell the deal to their fans.

Just quietly I also still think they’ll be rat droppings in 2019 even with Hogan and we’ll make out with a pick at least in the top 7.

This is the deal I expect Mahoney and Co will be pressing home to Peter Bell. Might take a while though. He (Bell) seems like a recalcitrant little focker.

In some places it is light late into the evening like Norway for example. So it doesn’t have to be dark to be evening or night.

Well it will be sunset at 5:30 in Tromso and 6:31 in Oslo. It will be dark there before us.

Melbourne have asked Hogan to either leave now or re-sign with us for a longer period.

His manager is telling him to hold out for a better deal next year.

Hogan is torn.

I really hope that's not true and it's just you paraphrasing in an abrupt manner.

Would like to think the club operates with a little more finesse than that.

Hogan 'torn' I do believe.

t'is a bit of a shame for US that Bell has come aboard when he has.  Oh that he couldn't have waited just a tad longer.

Bell's a bugger  but no fool. Just quietly he's actually straightening up Freo by a fair length. It'll take them 18m -2y to gel and lift by much. Thy're coming from a fair way back at present.

The line in the sand is a pick that enables us to get May.....that part I dont think is really a sticking point  for Freo....it's the other bit that is going to need creativity

Take 5 years or leave now is what I have been told.

Player manager telling him to do neither.

Somewhat reasonable (but the club would be a little more subtle I suspect), I'm sure they might have said we'll give you a similar long term deal that Freo are offering so we don't have to do this again next year otherwise if we get a great offer we'll move on it because you'll be out of contract and the 'noise' could be very unsettling next season.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
