I have no idea 'who you are' (though if you are a poster who has changed their name and not made it clear - eg in the sig block as some respectful posters have - that's all I need to know to assess your credibility)

Can you clarify - is it a site guideline that if one changes their username that one must indicate this in a sig block or in some other fashion? It's not addressed here: http://demonland.com/forums/guidelines/

A is far from done, don't be so disrespectful to the no.1 letter of the alphabet.

Genuine q - does it really matter?

We really need a daily precis.

204 pages. Neurotic, yet compulsory reading. (Not really).

And yet, life goes on.

I wish he'd make his mind up.

There were a couple of well known "rousers of rabble" on the site for a while...I guess some are pointing to a similar posting style.

Does it really matter?

Probably not...

Interesting you say this but I would say it matches a lot of what I’m feeling about all this. Given the time this has played out and the fact that Hogan is still yet to make a decision leads me to believe that a strong part of Hogan wants to go home but not at the expense of his footballing dreams.

All parties might well feel this is his best opportunity to get home, but Jesse himself may be feeling like Melbourne is his better chance at a premiership (that would be my opinion as well) and he isn’t as desperate to get home as others have in the past.

He’s toured the facilities, he’s heard the pitch, he’s surely been told all the bells and whistles, and hopes and dreams. If he isn’t convinced by now he could be leaning towards staying.

However if he is to stay I’d be looking for at least a two year extension, one year seems pretty pointless to me and I would prefer longer.

HAS HE MET ROSS LYON YET? THAT MAY CHANGE HIS MIND!

Not sure how an offer to pruess has any bearing on the asking price for hogan.

Key forward who is 23, rising star winner and stacks up with any key forward ever to play at the same stage if not better

5&6 is a good deal

it doesn't have any bearing.... also we might have offered Pruess a 4 year deal at 300k. It's not a big contract, but it's a contract with job security. With that said,... with a lot of clubs looking for rucks at the moment, West Coast, Richmond, etc... I don't quite understand coming to play behind Gawn.

I doubt we get that, but that's the starting point.  You always ask for more than you want, so when you meet in the middle you get generally the right deal.

Plenty of water to go under the bridge with this one.

so much revealed in the word "yet" isnt there.  The only thing In our favour in that stupid article  is that the value of Preuss is being talked down.

Maybe theres really no such things as "news" in the media anymore...in politics or sport. maybe its ALL just opinions now and who can make theirs the loudest. Eg. Theres no envinmental issue....Yes, there is one...no there isnt etc.  The more loud , more stupid and more opinionated the better for paper sales I guess. Depressing world we live in atm. Or maybe it was always like this and Ive just gotten old.

... the starting point is Freo and Lachie Neale, followed by Hogan saying he wants to move.

They have 3 first round picks to play with (if you look at next years pick too.) If they want Lobb and Hogan coming in, I suspect that these three picks go out the door, you might get some change coming back the other way, or you have to lose a quality player along with the trade.

What a load of crap. What is the connection? This is the sort of low caliber reporting that gives journalist the reputation that they seem to deserve.

1 We want two early fist round picks for Hogan if he wants to go home to WA.

2 We offer a ruckman a 4 year deal offering more game time than he gets at current club.

3 Journalist brains have been stolen by interplanetary travelers as a bit of a joke on the planet earth.

Therefore Damian Barrett will be Melbourne's new Ruck- Full Forward on a 9 year super $18million deal according to sources. Preuss returns to writing and Hogan receives huge offer to reprise role on TV series. FFS

Of course, but I'm talking simply about a deal in general, which is what they mentioned above (if it's in fact true to begin with).

If Hogan wants to go home, then Freo will be paying fair price to get him.  I'm confident we will get what we need.

Can't blame him for being attracted to job security. What VFL player knocks back a 4 year deal?

MFC would have sold the fact that Hogan will likely to be going and he has the chance to prove himself as our 3rd tall (note that Goodwin gave Spencer every chance to combine with Gawn previously). At worst, he will play games where teams have strong dual rucks combo's or when Gawn is injured. Going to 6:6:6 next year means the ball will be in the air so he would back himself to get a game.

Re Jessie, don't expect any news on that for some time. He is obviously wanting to go, but why would he make a fool of himself and nominated Freo only to find out shortly after that the Freo and Bris negotiations fall through and the draft picks Freo need from Neale deal are no longer available and return to MFC with his tail between his legs. Likewise May holding off on a decision

I am hesitant to post this as it is very different from what has already been posted.

I have heard, from half a world away a couple of very interesting whispers with regard to Freo, MFC and Hogan.

_ Melbourne prepared to deal if Hogan is happy moving and if they get the asking price.

_ Hogan is not 100% sold on Freo. Not confident posting what I heard as it may get this place in trouble.

_ Hogan and Freo both feel this is the last best chance to get him to move clubs but there is uncertainty both ways between Freo and Hogan.

_ MFC sitting quietly waiting to see what they need to do but will not sit without a decision any longer that tomorrow. There are too many other things that nee to get done.

My take on what I have heard, assuming it is correct, is that I am leaning towards Hogan staying another year and looking at another 1 year extension. I do not believe player or either club wants to go through this again next year.

IF all this is true it doesn't seem like Melbourne is too worried about keeping him. Where are the comments about Melbourne meeting Hogan/his manager desperately trying to convince him to stay? Haven't seen much of that mentioned.

The thing is we haven't seen much of anything mentioned that could be considered from a reliable source.  And that is probably as it should be.

It's been obvious we are more in favor of getting a good deal for him now than trying to convince him to sign up long term

  • REPORT: Port Adelaide

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.
