We're not going to be doing that.

If Hogan wants to go, a way will be found for him to go. You don't keep players against their wishes, even moreso when family/personal factors play a part.

The MFC’s first duty is to look after its own interests first, then consider the rights and needs of an individual player. 

Jesse has managed to play six seasons in Melbourne and only recently declared he was happy here. He gets along well with his teammates. If Fremantle won’t satisfy us in trade then I see no problem holding the  player to the final year of his contract with a promise to field offers from both Fremantle AND West Coast next season. 

Freo came to us to poach our gun key forward while still on contract. That fact can not be stressed enough. They’ll need to come to OUR PARTY picks wise, not the other way around. Why should we? Because we’re Melbourne and we play nice at the card table?

Sorry but the MFC’s interests trump those of an individual player on this one. I would be shocked if our FD did not see it that way.

Could not agree more. We start with asking for two top five picks. He's worth every bit of it and we hold all the cards. MAYBE let them get away with five and nine if they sweeten the deal.

Andrew Brayshaw is proven general midfield quality who has had a good exposure to AFL.  He had a very solid AFL year, he was a lock in my fantasy team so I followed his progress and he consistently built throughout the year.

Relentless midfield quality rotation wears down the opposition.

And yes there is something in the Brayshaw name.  Good culture is key to success.  I love the way Angus goes about it and that's highly likely to be a Brayshaw trait that Andrew will bring.  It also brings a stronger bond in adversity.

I think we also get a lot from the Macs.  I love Toms approach and Oscar seems very similarly smart, sensible and driven.

It may only be a five pick difference we’ll hold out for, but in this draft that could well be the difference between adding a good player and a genuine star to our list.

Agree with this completely. The pointy end of this year's draft is meant to be very good, the top 6 or so.

The only thing that betters this is if we can prize Kelly away from GWS this year with 5 (which will end up being at least 6 with Lynch FA compo) and next year's 1st rounder (16-18)

4 & 5 (or whatever that ends up being). Hogan is a KPP yet to reach his prime.

To echo Grazman, I'm don't get why posters sell us so short, or do they think we'll be pushovers at the trade table?

I would happily use one to trade for May with plenty of change. I would also like to use one in the draft.

I would also happily trade both for Kelly and change, which is a pipe dream I'd like to keep running with.

Our club has gone to great lengths to make fair deals and to look after their players at every opportunity over the last few years.

If Hogan wants out, then the club will facilitate a deal that works for everyone involved.  As you say, it's in nobodies interest to hold on to a player who doesn't want to be here.  We support their decision, get a fair deal in return and move on.  It would be the same with Dean Kent, AVB and so forth.

It's a nice thought, but no chance Gold Coast would go for it. Plenty of players meet with other clubs and then stay where they are. Dustin Martin, Ling Jong. And Melbourne are confident Aaron Vandenberg will do the same.

So the Coach (Dew), would want to start fresh with new experienced players,,, who can help their kids develop while being competitive at winning games.  = hope.

Again, there is a time to cut a quick deal and there’s a time to recognise you have the whip hand in negotiations and make your opponent (yes that’s what Freo are - an opponent) rightly pay up.

I’ll also say Jesse Hogan has uttered not one public word about being homesick, being depressed or wanting to go home. Not a word. Carlton played hardball with Gibbs when they felt they were being lowballed by Adelaide in 2016. Gibbs stayed on another year and finished top three in the Blues B&F.

Don’t get sucked into an emotional pull at the heartstrings. Jesse Hogan is a professional footballer and he will accept a business decision the MFC makes concerning his and the club’s future. 

We owe Freo nothing. And the player in question is contracted. So I repeat, they can pay the freight or go away and roll with their rubbish forward line again in 2019.

We should by all means let the Neale trade happen first. By doing so it will allow us to then request pick 4 from Freo instead of pick 5.

The big difference here is that it will allow us to trump Freo on down trading with Port for pick 9/10 as pick 4 is worth more.

By doing this it will allow us to end up with picks 9/10 (and maybe Freos 2019 first rounder as part of Hogan trade). Opposed to just picks 5 and 9.

I don’t think we should be waiting around for freo to make a trade with port. We should do that ourselves. 

Set the price 5&6 if they want him pay up otherwise keep him for another year. Freo are desperate for anything to sell their members and they will cave hogan is exactly what they need to sell hope and avoid slipping into long term irrelevance. 

if we do this we could make the trade with port and get steven May into the club as well as 2 top 10 picks to on trade or take to the draft.

Hogan is a young Full Foward who would of been an All-Australian if he didn’t go down injured. 

Tell Fremantle if they want Hogan they have to do a straight swap with Brisbane. Pick 4 for Neale. Then we trade Hogan for pick 4 and 5.

Lachie Weller was traded for Pick 2 

Neale is worth Pick 4 

Hogan is worth Pick 4 & 5

We can then look to trade both  4 & 5 to GC and something else*  for May, KK and Pick 2 or 3 which we can then try to trade to Port for 9 & 10 or keep for another trade or to use in the draft. 

I'm not sure why a number of our supporters think that we would have to accept a trade like  5 & 10 for Hogan.  If Freo trade Neale for 4 and 22, then ergo Hogan is worth more to them than Neale (because that's why they're trading him). So it has to be pick 4&5, not the 'have my cake and eat it too scenario' that the Docker's supporters concoct.

Logically if the Dockers traded 4 to Port for picks 9 &10 before trading with us, we'd be asking for 5, 9 & 10.  If they want to keep an early pick then they have to give up either Cerra or Brayshaw who they then have to replace with that pick.

 

* We've apparently sought permission to trade our first round pick next year from the AFL, that probably only works from the AFL perspective if we use a first round pick this year so whether that's 4 or 5  for us to use or to bargain with one of the SA clubs that will tie themselves up in knots to draft one of the SA kids - who will be gagging to get as close to the number one pick as they can.
