Also, what part of Brayshaws game do people like or do they like him just because he is Angus' brother and was a high draft pick? Cerra looks like double the player. And Cerra has just extended his contract and won’t be cleared. 1 Quote
Diamond_Jim 12,778 Posted September 26, 2018 Posted September 26, 2018 this could be the making of the era we have all been waiting for. To have three class forwards is a surfeit of riches. Sure we could devise a gameplan around them but the chance to trade what is almost a surplus player for a known deficiency or two does not come along often. 6 Quote

I'd love for him to stay, and am sure he'd add value next year, but if we can maximise our return now and pursue May plus some outside midfield pace, we are in golden era, elite territory. 1 Quote

It's not his marking and goal kicking that have impressed but rather his willingness to get the ball and dish it out including getting inside the pack. In a perverse way the injury to Hogan may have been an advantage to the overall progress of the team. 3 Quote
MurDoc516 1,529 Posted September 26, 2018 Posted September 26, 2018 Let me just say i want Hogan to stay. We don't need high draft picks nor do we really need a big FA this season. However if he wishes to go than so be it. Make the trade why we have the cards in our hands. What we are going to gain from this trade? no idea. I think the club will demand two first round picks and that should be the minimum. Talk is Freo will get picks 10 and 11 for the trade of Lachie Neale to go with pick 6. I'd demand pick 6 and 10 for Hogan. Dockers will probably say no and say 10 and 11. I think however we get what we want by either waiting or sweetening the deal and giving them a 3rd rounder to go with Hogan for picks 6, 10 and a future 3rd rounder. Why do i think the Dockers take this? Because Ross Lyon wants more talent at the club and currently he has pick 5 and 77, that's it. We have two third rounders available and only really need one to go with our two 2nd rounders. What else could happen to secure this trade? Pick 6 comes to us now and Freo back themselves in to have a good season next year and give us their future first round pick for next season. I'm open to this because i'm on the Josh Kelly hype train and think we are going to make a play for him. That would leave us with two first rounders for next season to go after Kelly or whatever big fish is available. Again Freo is going to want to try and nab one of our 2nd or 3rd picks. They are desperate to get back into the draft and we can use this to get what we want. What do we do with our picks? Steven May seems to be the fresh link. I don't know how good May is but if he can actually play a lockdown defender role i can only see it being a big benefit to us. It would unleash Lever and give Oscar/Frost the 2nd/3rd talls while May takes the no.1 guy. Do we make a play for Kelly now? i don't think we'd get him. Giants are desperate to keep him and are trying to move players on to free up cap space just so they can offer him the million dollar deal he would demand. We would have cap space assuming Hogan leaves and if you believe PJ's talk earlier in the season about having room for a big fish. What about the draft. Sam Walsh is out of the question, he's no.1 pick. Maybe, just maybe Carlton take two first rounders for pick 1. It would be a different approach considering under Roosy we did trade down with our high picks to get quantity of players in. We aren't [censored] and in desperate need of talent so i wouldn't be against just going for best kid availble and sacrificing picks to get it. I don't think Carlton's list is terrible, just injury plagued. Sam Walsh is an outside beast and will work nicely in tandem with Cripps so i think they'll make the play. If they do agree to this offer i say do it. We need an outside mid and Walsh is the most promising pick in years. Again this is all assuming Hogan is leaving so maybe we look at a promising forward to replace him. The King Brothers are estimated to land in the picks 4 to 7 range. We might be able to nab one but i do think both might be heading to the Suns. My personal shout for a potential pick ups are: Connor Rozee(SA), Jackson Hatley(SA), Jordan Clark(WA), Zak Butters(VIC), Luke Valente(SA). Valente, Butters and Hatley are all mids. Rozee is a half forward-mid hybrid and Clark is a half back flank with great rebound ability. Rozee, Hatley and Clark will probably go in around the picks 8-12 mark so if we had a pick availble we could nab one or if we decided to not trade for May or another FA we could pay overs and get any 2 we wanted really. Also i just want to say i've seen talk about Brayshaw, Cerra or Langdon coming in with a first round pick. I don't think Ross is stupid to move a kid on after a season when he's been telling the fans he's playing the kids. If he was stupid then Ed Langdon would be the best option for us. However the Brayshaw brothers being together would be nice. 2 Quote

Grapeviney 9,929 Posted September 26, 2018 Posted September 26, 2018 When Jesse first burst on to the scene with that great game under lights against the Tigers, we told ourselves that the only way we would keep him long-term was to win games - to become a good side that played finals and was a premiership contender. It seems counter-intuitive that after enduring the tail end of the miserable years and our slow but steady rise up the ladder, he's going to jump ship to another basket-case of a club just as we're coming good and about to fulfil our promise to him. I trust the club to make the best of the situation, but I'll be sorry to see him go if that's what transpires. Jesse was one of the first pieces of the puzzle to be put in place for the rebuild, and it feels somewhat surreal to think that we might end up doing it all without him. 19 Quote

Satisfies our immediate outside mid need. Do we really want to wait on the development curve of a pick 6 kid? Kelly, unless he's agreed in principle, then it's too much of a Longshot to plan around. Maybe the last two years of personal issues have caught up with him and he wants to be out of the spotlight and enjoy the rest of his life for what it is? Or he's had an offer to good to refuse, ie $1.5m x 7? The club is bigger than one player, we wish him well and we continue to build a premiership list. 1 Quote

I think we've seen a real trend of first years players being AFL ready. Stephenson, Higgins, Brayshaw etc They ain't the finish article but all are easily in the best 22 of their sides. I think if we could get Walsh, Hatley, Clark or Valente they could all easily play seniors straight away. They have the bigger bodies and football smarts to work. Butters is a little lightweight and Rozee could probably make our best 22 as a forward but his midfield work is pretty good and that was the theme i was looking at. Outside runners who can play midfield. Edited September 26, 2018 by MurDoc516 2 Quote
