Good god, there is nothing in this thread of substance...or even of interest...it's like a stream of consciousness on the topic of Jesse hypothetically moving merely because he is from Perth.

Fixed.

Someone should tell Jesse to pack his bags then.

JH: "Loving Melbourne. Just got my license, my team's winning every week. And I get to swim in money. Sucks I got injured though. Ooh! A squirrel (Jesse's not bright)."
JC: "I haven't ruled out Jesse joining the Dockers."
JH: "Aww shucks! Do I have to go?!?!"

most would say that two early first rounders would be fair for Hogan so you are valuing Neale at one first rounder.

Might be a little low but worth arguing.

Lachie Neale is an accumulator who doesn't hurt sides. 1st rounder and certainly not an early one is all he is worth.

Certainly not something we need

If we stick with the relative ‘small ball’ line-up:

B: Jetta - O Mac - Hibberd
HB: Salem - Lever - Lewis
? Jones - Brayshaw - Viney
HF: Petracca - Hogan - ANB
F: vandenBerg - T Mac - Melksham
Foll: Gawn - Oliver - Harmes
I/c: Tyson - Hannan - Weideman - Fritsch
Emerg: Spargo - Frost - Hunt - J Smith

if a medium sized forward structure..

and should Hogan not be on deck (just like now ) ...or in the deck ..it ( as unlikely as maybe )

B: Jetta - O Mac - Hibberd
HB: Salem - Lever - Lewis
C  Jones - Brayshaw - Viney
HF: Petracca - T-Mac - ANB
F: vandenBerg - Weideman - Melksham
Foll: Gawn - Oliver - Harmes

Just wanna check . . . is that the same Hogan that:

  • has the ball constantly kicked on top of his head
  • has the ball kicked to his defensive side
  • regularly competes against two or three opponents because we move the ball slowly or in unpredictable patterns
  • has the ball dropped in front of him
  • was a lock for AA in the middle of the season
  • was rated top 15 players in the comp by The Roar a month ago
  • flies against (take your pick) Pedo/Max/Harmes/Trac/Hotdog stand vendor
  • runs his guts out to make position at half forward for a clear receive only to see the ball fumbled or turned over by (take you pick) ANB/Spargo/Jones/Tyson/Frost
  • is so bugged by the time he does get the ball that he can't kick straight?

Yeah . . . trade him I recon.

Simple questions that when addressed, could make us a Premiership team with Hogan at the Front Door up fwd. We owe it to him and the long-suffering fans - no trade for Hogan would be satisfactory - he is one tremendous asset who should be allowed to play in a more-controlled team than what we so often currently exhibited. NO TRADE FOR HOGAN, banish the thought.

If we traded to freo we could be looking at picks 4 (From Brisbane via Neal’s trade) and pick 5 (freos first rounder) to get the ball rolling.

Would people entertain a trade if we were able to swoop in and get Lynch to the dees as a free agent? If Freo offered up picks 4 and 5 (with exchange of misc) it would be a no brainer.

I think it's time for posters to stop demanding the thread be closed because others are interested in respectfully discussing Hogan's hypothetical trade value, likely or not.

There is not a hope in hell Fremantle are giving up picks 4 and 5 (if they get both) for Jesse Hogan. That would be a ridiculous trade on their part. Unrealistic and of course we would entertain it. Sounds like Lynch is off to Richmond. They will be hard to beat. But beatable all the same.

Nor do I think they'd part with 5 and Cerra/Brayshaw

IF Hogan will not sign a contract extension at the end of this season i think we must entertain trading him, as we have Weiderman. Don't get me wrong, if Hogan wants to stay, we keep him, but he has to prove this with a contract extension.

IF HE DOES NOT SIGN, then... Fremantle are the obvious choice.

I would propose the following trade.

Adam Cerra and 2nd Rounder for Hogan.

Cerra is calm, elite ball user picked number 5 and likened to scott Pendulberry (He achieved a perfect 10 from the coaches votes in his first year). He will fill the Vince/Lewis role in tandem with Salem Perfectly, until Midfield Spots open.

With Hogan, Vince, Balic, Garlett and whoever else going at seasons end, we have Cap space to land 1 (maybe even 2) of Gaff, Shiel, Polac or Aaron Hall. As well as Braydon Preuss.

We then have 2x 2nd round picks and 2 x 3rd round picks, as well as Tom Bugg and Dom Tyson to offer as potential trades.

Essentially, We lose hogan and gain a 2nd round draft pick, an elite outside mid (Gaff or Shiel), a back-up ruckman (pruess), and a top 5 draft pick with elite ball use (cerra.

Overall making Lemonade when life gives you lemons. This should be our emergency plan, if Hogan does not extend his contract. IF.

Honestly this is the biggest load of rubbish i have ever heard.

Why does he has to prove anything? In good faith he has signed a contract till the end of 2019.

Unbelievable what some people think players owe the club and their fans.

Fair dinkum i have never read so much baloney on this site. And that is seriously saying something.

I'm not saying he owes anyone anything. But if he waits till 2019 then he is a free agent, and can leave and we get no say in what we get for him.

This isn't an emotional fan saying he needs to do this to show loyalty, its a pragmatic fan saying the smartest thing for the footy club to do is get a contract extension, or get the best offer before we lose him to free agency. Pretty simple.

I have no issue with us asking if he wants to sign a new contract.

But you said he has to prove his loyalty by agreeing to a contract extension. The implication being we demand he sign or we will ship him. Which is total bulltish.

And as i understand it (might be wrong) he will be a restricted free agent so we can match any offer.

And if we do lose him to free agency we will be well compensated given the price on his head and age in the same way we were when we lost Frawley - who we got a number 3 draft pick for (which allowed us to pick up Oliver IIIRC).

So we are under no pressure whatsoever to sign him again now and putting a bloke who has already committed to our club under pressure to sign is totally disrespectful and no way to build a cohesive, team first culture. Not much esprit de corps in that.

You must of gone to the Mark Neeld school of culture building.

Not sure where that idea comes from.  Jesse won't be a free agent until the END of 2021!!!!  He was pre-listed for 2013.  Joined the AFL list for 2014.  After 8 years on AFL list, player becomes an Unrestricted Free Agent.

Other than media musings there is no indication at all that he wants to leave the Dees.  Only if he wants to go will he get traded.  There is no reason for the club to push him into a trade.

You make good points, don't understand why you are so set on throwing insults around however.

I was never indicating that we hold a gun to his head and make him sign. BUT if he intends to stay, signing a 1 year contract extension would be much better for club culture, as the players would not spend the entire 2019 season having to answer questions about if Hogan is staying or not.

AND if he thinking of leaving,

Then we have Weiderman, a really promising young player that can take his spot. So it's a win, win.

Either Hogan stays and we are happy. We can trial playing three talls of TMAC, Hogan and Weiderman. Possibly have to trade Weiderman if it doesn't work because he will want opportunities, but thats okay if Hogan stays.

OR Hogan is strongly considering going home, so we trade him. Get a good deal for him, and start building a new team around players that will be there for the long Haul. No malice, no anger, just good fair player management.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
