We played the first quarter like we expecting no pressure but came big time causing fumbles and turnovers big time.

Couldn’t handle the pressure which is not surprising.

Disappointing way to end the season.

Viney to be sole captain next yr please and tbh didn’t even realise Jones was playing.

Also for the love of god Frost, can u learn to mark the bloody ball.

On a positive I don’t have to shell out thousands of $$$$$ to see us lose next week.

Our mid field is all grunt no class, we need to add some class into our mids

Collingwood turned up to Perth like a gang looking for a fight. We turned up to Perth like schoolkids on an excursion. We may not have won today anyway, but it's a perfect description of the difference between these 2 clubs. One wants to fight...one is ok with being pushed around.

Rubbish. We have the players. Add Lever, Hogan, a recruit like May and the natural improvement of a young side, top 4 for certain.

You are easily satisfied.

Show me a Preliminary Final that was worse than today.

Natural improvement isn’t the answer

Great season and plenty of time to work on deficiencies. Speaking of which, if Petracca's ball drop gets any higher, he'll be dropping it from above his head. And for a guy with great physical talent, he plays way too much like Brent Moloney (his last season) for my liking.

There are no positives to take out of today, but truckloads to take out of the season.  I'll get over the 'emptiness' of today in the next couple of weeks, and look forward to next season with the same gusto that I always do  ..........  but in the full knowledge that we will be starting from a much higher base than I could have dreamed of a couple of years ago.  We are mostly good, but today proved that we are not good enough. That will be remedied!

Jones is finished. Best he retires to Casey.

Just wondered where he was all day. MIA and behind most plays. Long-bombed his kicks on a hope and a prayer. At least our fellas got a broad taste of finals footy.

Stop beating around the bush chook and tell us what you really think!

I was being restrained but Lewis really made me angry with his lazy, undisciplined and unaccountable game. Over and out.

Up there with 186 and 148 for embarrassment levels. We just spoiled a preliminary final for all neutrals.

Could not give a [censored] what neutrals think.

We were no worse than Richmond last night.

I was worried about him and Tyson before the game. Both painfully  slow.

34 tackles and Eagles players were at times literally walking around with the ball...bizarre.

This club is still broken in my opinion.

Think again after the emotion has settled.

Absolutely nothing like those two capitulations.

I said that to my husband. The size of some of those blokes compared to our young boys. It really was like men playing against a bunch of school boys.

Do they still have a pharmacist on staff?

Jelly legs , falling over ,  cant hit a handball target that we hit all week .

The build up , the story , pressure on individuals , brains and bodies falling out .

we will be better for it and have learnt how in many situations this year , a huge step forward for our club .

remain classy demonland - .

I agree - just overwhelmed by the occasion, and probably by the ups and downs of the past 4 magnificent weeks.

We beat them only a few weeks ago. Darling and Kennedy were NOT the difference. Viney was back we were on a roll. We had a bad day.

We certainly did - nothing went right for us.  Slipped over, missed handballs and receives, ball bounced poorly etc etc etc

My auntie was a fanatical Essendon supporter who manipulated me at a young age to barrack for the Dons.  It was only until my teens I would wear the red & the blue (in local footy) that I understood the MFC's real meaning.

Good luck the MFC

I really do have better things to do than to waste time and energy believing in the MFC.

That''s not to say there has been no good work undertaken, or 'our' year was wasted, other than to say... there are better things in life to consider and to what degree the capitulation's effect and meaning has is anyone's guess.

There are many players who have to explain themselves... what on earth do people who earn such big dollars have to explain their performance after today?

Well done to the efforts (of all behind the scenes) & players to get us here in this AFL system.  Yet for every favourable moment, adding another membership or fan, there is another who walks away from the justifiable expectation that there is a performance to be had but which is sadly let down.

No more interest here.

Yes, and it is time for these two to be replaced within a winning team.

Proud of what the boys were able to achieve this year, annoyed that it had to end so badly and I hope this inspires them to go again harder next year (not get mentally scarred).

Umpires were corrupt as usual, afl must address the home crowd influencing umpires decisions.

Anyone else think that west coast fans are horrible human beings who have a lack of sportmanship and also lack a brain. Hope that pies put them in their place next week. West coast fans can go die in hell.

Frustrated at lack of leadership, lewis in particular.

So gutted it had to end like this.

Correct

Outclassed, we need further list pruning and importing some real polish and speed

0.6.6 at halftime is far worse.

Be Honest.

West Coast were slick and sharp and clearly benefitted from their week off. We made too many mistakes and costly turnovers resulted in goals. 12 Eagles played in the last grand final and this is their 4th year in a row in finals. They are a mature big bodied team with a good mix of talls and speedy smalls.

This is step 1 for us after 12 years in the wilderness. There are a few gaps to fill and you learn more about your players under this intense finals football than in the season. Any talk of trading Hogan should dry up immediately as he is needed as a big bodied key forward. And the rehab for Lever is so vital, we need him down back. Some outside run as Spargo is our only small.

I will be interested to hear Goody's take on things. I hope today drives the club and playing group forward.

Finally I would like to thank Peter Jackson as in his own words his tenure finishes once the season is completed for us. sadly it was more abrupt and disappointing than I hope

Go Dees

The Demons were wasteful early before putting the foot down early in the 2nd quarter but they chased tail for the remainder of the match. They could not get their first use of the footy after half time and when they did poor skills, execution and decision making let them down.

  • WHAT’S NEXT? by The Oracle

What’s next for a beleagured Melbourne Football Club down in form and confidence, facing  intense criticism and disapproval over some underwhelming recent performances and in the midst of a four game losing streak? Why, it’s Adelaide which boasts the best percentage in the AFL and has won six of its last seven games. The Crows are hot and not only that, the game is at the Adelaide Oval; yet another away fixture and the third in a row at a venue outside of Victoria. One of the problems the Demons have these days is that they rarely have the luxury of true home ground advantage, something they have enjoyed just once since mid April.
