I'm on the train from Castlemaine- occasional other Dees supporters here.

I'm sitting with the strange feeling of anticipation that comes with the knowledge of win and anything is possible, lose and it's over for this season. I vaguely remember that sense from many years ago.

As the day has gone on, I've been feeling my father's presence more and more (he died in 2015).

Where’s @Wiseblood we need him to tell us this is the best Game Day thread ever, like last week.

Smashed this work day. A cheeky wine with some work friends then off to the game.

So goddamn nervous!

Saw a dead cat bounce of a rebuild last Friday night and looking forward to returning to the G to witness a second tonight.   Bury these smug, arrogant pissants Dees!

The way we played at times last week, and the way Hawthorn were outworked by Richmond. I would expect us to win this week. it doesn't always pan out that way, but going by the form - we are the side to beat tonight. On top of that, I think there is more improvement in us than there is in Hawthorn. Perfect night for football.

Balls Grinter and Rigo are having a beer at the Corner. Love it.

And Neita.

Totes jelly of all those in Melbourne firing up pre-game. At home doing a load of washing and looking after the brats while the wife is at a work function. On the plus side I did make the most of a flying trip to the 'g last weekend...unsustainable behaviour to say the least.

Cheer hard folks...go dees.

I feel so nervous. Not as confident this week as I was this time last week. The day has dragged for me even though I have had heaps to do.

I am really hoping we come out blazing like we did last week.

Good luck to everyone and I hope we are all happy in about six hours time.

Go Dees.

Are we there yet?

The day is dragging on, I think the clock has stopped.....no, damn that's slow. I have read everything about the footy twice already, might find some Jack Watts threads that will keep me busy. Check the time 3:35pm, come on match time. The last 20 years has gone in a blink and the last ten minutes has been an eternity. Might watch some water boil.

With you there, MD. Earlier I looked at the clock thinking it must be mid arvo- it was 12:00. An hour later I looked again- it was 12:05. This has been the most painfully longest day I've ever had.

Two things I’m sick of hearing:

1. The last game we played the Hawks. It was bloody 5 months ago. Countries reunite in a shorter time.

2. Clarkson. He’s not going to pull on the boots and I think Goody has him covered in the ciache’s box.

Dees by 35.

Yes but about preparing yourself for the game?

I'm also sick of everyone at work today saying how Melbourne should thrash Hawthorn because they have 2 of their best 22 out. Anything less is a failure apparently.

As a fellow GC from Southport am at the Gtonight would not want to be anywhere else. Will also be backin two week when we play Tigers in the granny. RED & BLUE

Or Magpies. Now wouldn't that be one for the AFL. Back to 64!.

Bit of a rumour around that Hardwick from Hawks maybe a late out.

My nerves are jangled. All the cards seem to be stacking our way but the Hawks can be unpredictable especially against us. I suspect that they will attempt to go heavy on us just for something different as an entree. Clarkson is shrewd. Perhaps target Gawn, Oliver and Tmac. Hope Vanders, Viney, Jetta and Harmes reciprocate.

This - they will jump into Max and tackle him to the ground hard.

We need to respond, if there's violence, with totally disproportionate physical power. No more Troy Simmonds. If that sort of stuff happens, one of them doesn't get up.

Harmes to Mitchell because Mitchell does not run two ways. Harmes will become a huge weapon for us with his speed.

Wouldnt mind jones following smith a bit

Down from Brisbane and about to refuel at my hotel bar (Pullman on the Park). Dees by 48 and Hawks smashed into oblivion!

Love to see Vanders take Sicily out.

Great way of looking at it. I agree. We need to keep doing the things we're great at, kick alright (if not very accurately), and not become complacent about our opposition/the score at any time and we will roll 'em.

i disagree because i think Clarkson is an honest coach that drives home the non negotiables. knocking out players is an old tactic that doesn't work and has been stamped out of the game. you need collective defensive accountability and the hard tackling and hits come as a product of that, not as a directive. [censored] teams without a chance of winning go in with the "take him out" mantra.

imo clarkson will be less about jumping into max and more about stopping the tap advantage. Clarkson is too smart to do what either of you have suggested.

Good luck to all from London. My sister sent me over an MFC scarf during the week, and notwithstanding that it’s still pretty warm over here i’ll wear it today, as a sign of solidarity with all Demon lovers. I wonder if anyone on the tube will recognise it??

Anyway go Dees. As usual I’ll follow the game through this site, too nervous to watch it, and anyway I am supposed to be working!

The first few minutes will be crucial.

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.

The Demons return to Casey Fields (aka the Field of Dreams) this Saturday to host the Saints in Round 2. If you’re feeling lucky, head down the Monash for some family-friendly footy—you might even walk away a winner. The first 5,000 adults through the gate will receive an entry into the $10,000 helicopter ball drop. With Casey’s infamous wind, what could possibly go wrong? Closest ball to the pin wins. So spread the word, get down there—and good luck!
