Geelong then Hawthorn eliminated by the Demons.  Couldn't have written a better script.

Like last year when you couldn't have dreamed of a worse script!

Gee I hope we can get it done.  When Hawthorn secured top 4 with their ugly win over Sydney I was drunk and bitter so I trapped off to the 4 Hawks supporting mates in my punter's club.  I said that their team was the worst team in history to make top 4, and they have zero chance of winning a final.  I went as far as to say that if they win one, I will be their personal chef on our end of season trip.  Little did I know that it would come to this, so if we lose, not only will I have to swallow the bitter disappointment of the Demons being eliminated by those over-achieving pricks, I will have to cook breakfast, lunch and dinner for 4 smug Hawks supporters for 3 days in December.  Ouch!

Post 3 things you would love to see tonight, besides the obvious (a Demon win)

1.   The Petracca breakout...  the one we have all been waiting,  something in the vicinity of 30 touches and  5 goals in a BOG performance

2.  Mitch Hannan to take mark of the year on Sicilys head

3.  Jordan Lewis to tear apart his old mob

I was supremely confident last week. Before and during the match. Not once did i think we would lose it

Confident again but not as confident. Well more nervous perhaps.

Hawks a better side than the Cats - but not better than us.

The talk has been about this being won or lost in the midfield but i think the game will be won or lost on our gut defensive running to minimise uncontested marks and when they do get them stopping chains of them and holding them up.

I have no doubt we will bring the heat and tackling. When we have lost this year it has been because we haven't spread and run defensively well enough. Bring the gut running and we win.

The problem for the hawks game is that it is hard to execute under pressure - and compared to a few years ago they have too many average skilled players who miss targets when the heat is on.

Conversely for our ballistic game the benefit of that model is that pressure is not a skill issue it is an intent issue. We will have the intent. So our game will hold up.

A couple of thoughts about the game.

I predict Trac will have his breakout game. He is marked hard, in large part because of his obvious talent and draft position but also because of 'Hollywood'style and brashness. But his numbers are actually really good and he is often involved with crucial assists.

No more crucial than the smart kick to TMac for our first, critical, goal against the Cats and the brilliant intercept (pure basketball!) and handball t Jones that set up the sealer.

I suspect he suffers from nerves pretty badly - he is an emotional guy. Last week

s game will have done him the world of good. I think he will turn it on tonight and be a huge headache for the Hawks defence.

The other thought is VDB reminds me a lot Dipper in his hey day. A big, strong winger who runs in straight lines and sets the tone with his ferocity, hunt and tackling. i'm expecting another big game from him tonight.

Played golf at club Mandalay this morning  (not well). Can't believe we're still playing footy.

DL is usually abuzz with what went wrong, wish Roosy had stayed on coz Goody ain't the bloke to take us to a flag, and who are the dozen we need to de-list.

My nerves are jangled. All the cards seem to be stacking our way but the Hawks can be unpredictable especially against us. I suspect that they will attempt to go heavy on us just for something different as an entree. Clarkson is shrewd. Perhaps target Gawn, Oliver and Tmac. Hope Vanders, Viney, Jetta and Harmes reciprocate.

Easy, cook up the worst slop you can throw together.

Deep fry them a chuck steak, and serve with vegetables that have been steamed for 6 hours.

Then microwave a bowl of ice cream for them.

Jesus I hate the Hawks.

Are we there yet?

The day is dragging on, I think the clock has stopped.....no, damn that's slow. I have read everything about the footy twice already, might find some Jack Watts threads that will keep me busy. Check the time 3:35pm, come on match time. The last 20 years has gone in a blink and the last ten minutes has been an eternity. Might watch some water boil.

Don't know if I would like to displace any of these 3 (I'm particularly looking for #1 - tonight is the night!) But if i had to, I'm more partial to 1 and 3, but I'd swap #2 with AVB collecting a few heads en route to a number of goal assists, and some of his own!

I have had to personally give myself a private mea culpa for some of the childish and outlandish statements I made about Goodwin and the team (some of them) during some losses.

It's easy to say this given our position now, and I am not sure if I'd show the same EQ if we had missed (probably not), but, boy was I wrong.

Go you good things, win or lose.

I’d hate to lose this game in front of goals. It would rip my heart out if that were the case.

Must remain composed and kick straight. We do that, we win.

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
