I honestly don't understand anyone suggesting Garlett or Hunt. Joel Smith is the one I'm interested in, especially with an eye to the Eagles if we do make it.

He comes in, we push Fritsch to a wing/ forward flank, rotating with Vanders mostly like. Then have to find someone to go out.

Spargo's two way running is great. It's worth more than possessions. He gets to the right spots that helps his team mates do likewise, both in attack and defending.

Thought Hannan was the weakest link up forward but he kicked the sealer. 

Smith in to the 23, work out who goes out later for now.

Fristch is playing beautifully down back, his reading of the play and composure are amazing for a first year player

Based purely on the fact we are 13-3 when Spargo plays, and 2-5 in the games he's missed, Spargo has to play.

He went too hard at the contest and didn’t protect himself enough. It was his desire to put his body on the line and win the ball.

I think Goody holds players like Kent, VDB and both Smiths in high regard despite their injury setbacks.

Agree.  It is on our terms.  The only test for us is can we continue to pressure inside 50, and shut down the transition out.  If we do that like the last few weeks we will win no matter what our goal kicking accuracy is, and win easily if we are better around goals. That was what was so good against Geelong.  We didn’t play that well for a large part of the game, but unlike earlier in the season our bad quarters we pretty much halved.

Fritsch's game, much like his past month or so, was error-riddled again. I'm sure he was at one point, but I can't remember him being clean with the footy on Friday. Seems overawed by playing in the back half to me, but without Lever, he is needed to intercept and kick. Let's hope he remains calmer this week.

And no change for me. Bring the same pressure and kick straighter and we comfortably account for the scum.

Spargo corrals and tackles well in our forward 50 too. Those that want Jeffy to come in haven't watched Jeff properly. In big games he wilts. In Goodwin teams he's not appropriate because he's too soft at the contest. 

And some saying JKH should come in, are you serious? The bloke can't handle the heat in the regular season. He would crap himself in a final. And he certainly doesn't bring any more pace than Charlie.

Yes, having been at the game Friday night, I watched carefully to the contributions and team contributions of the selected list. Other than to say that it was a great and co-operative performance, the frequency of the contributions (whilst all very good to excellent with only a few lesser examples), were apparent. This was useful, as it became obvious we had this game by the end of the first quarter, as expected. 

It enabled me to review for the game next week against the Whoreform team, simultaneously enjoying the negation of the Catty Puts. 

I'd reckon:

Tyson out - not able to contribute consistently and slow in the congestion moments to deliver,  so often randomly

Fritsch - half-used across the game. Kicking and positioning were good but often ignored as a backman by his teammates. Does not appear to be a backman and consequently, his skillset is half wasted with opportunities reduced as a last-resort avenue. Would do - and can do - far better with his terrific attributes on a forward assignment - possibly flanking or in-close groundwork close to goal. Optional target for marking and we need his kicking skills for improved scoring chances. Could surprise the hell out of the Squawks' defenders, I'd reckon, too

Spargo out - great in an open assist passage or two by hand and foot, but easily kept aside across much of the game by ordinary-bodied opponents, and the learning curve/physical development became detractors to his game. He's got it all, though, for next year.

Weideman - played better than ever seen before with talent, confidence, intent. Big change in my own opinion of him and it seems September is his month to show it and shine.

Jetta - great efforts again, great effectiveness, great linkages. Hope his shoulder (?) is fine by next game. One of our consistent best

Lewis - terrific game, leadership, examples ... highly useful in the 2nd/3rd quarters stemming the Catty Puts' best efforts to stay in the game

Best Players: Gawn, Harmes, Clarrie, Brayshaw, Viney with apologies to Hibberd and Jetta. 

Sat in the Ponsford Stand behind the midline of the goals. Sat just behind a Geelong crew so I could hear all of the wise comments across the game. After the first ten minutes, they were all shattered without any signs of an improving outlook. Big Bill Brownless was there; he spent most of the night with his head between his knees in abject misery.  

Smith, Hunt, JKH and/or Kent might be good acquisitions for the Whoreform game, but where? We need two more 'burners' and another mobile backman.

I think that's a really poor coaching move. You don't blood a young player in a final for the sake of it, who has been horribly out of form. Too much risk of mentally scarring a player when they fail in a final, having come in with no form.

I'll go back and rewatch a second time, because I counted at least 5 times he fumbled and put team mates under pressure. But here probably highlights why the DE stat is the most misleading stat in the game.

Great call.  Could be our biggest risk and needs attention in selection. Tyson worked well as an extractor on Friday but was on the wing at a couple of centre bounces.  He and Jones can't play that role next week. Need a fast stopper here.

He is seeing what he normally sees, a completely different game to the rest of us, put him on ignore, you won't miss much

I’m watching the replay of the GWS game now. JFK was very unlucky to be dropped. Tackled very well and was clean. It seems the coaches prefer Spargo, but I don’t. I think we’ll be a better side this Friday night with JFK in and Spargo out.
