Spargo out, Garlett in? Do you even football?

Anybody calling for Spargo to be dropped needs to look at the footage of the last qtr - just after his last (missed) shot for goal with about 7 mins to go, he puts Whitfield on his arse from the resultant kickin. He's got a bit of mongrel in him, as well as pace and makes good decisions (that handball assist to Jones for a goal late in the game was gold). He gut runs.....well, does everything Jeffy isn't doing really.

Another Jason Taylor success story. Stays for mine.

Don't get me wrong, i agree with all you said.

There is a conversation to be discussed with regard to Spargo. Don't think that this young ball player will not be extremely and physically targeted by Geelong.

They will because, (and there is a lot of young ball players in our Team) they will want to break down the links.

Will Garlett make a difference, and is there time for Spargo to get another turn later? Perhaps...

Wouldn't want to have to make the decision.....

Wasn't sure where to put this but i 'd thought the changes for the cats game was as good a place as any, given it involves a change and finals. A change of avatar due to a losing bet on us making finals.

Dr D. I gave your new avatar much thought and landed on this as i think there are some parallels with your good self. He was very negative, struggled communicating a positive message (that pre match 'pep talk'- uggh),  did not think we would make finals (well, ensured we couldn't), his contribution to the club is questionable, he had his detractors and it would be fair to say was not universally loved  Yet still it can't be argued he had a connection to the club and some interest in it.

So paging Dr D here is your new avatar (note; please ensure if needing to crop the picture below you get Mark's whole face):

We'll just leave Viney out then.

UNFORCED changes. We are FORCED to make changes due to injury and naturally Viney comes in. An UNFORCED change would be Garlett for Spargo or JKH.

Nice name by the way. Obviously just jumped on his bandwagon recently.

This kid is a firecracker, target him? 1st I reckon he'd give it right back (probably a bit too obviously as well) 2nd we don't play bruise free, we'll be hunting Geelong with our tackles and I reckon we'll more than hold our own, Also Viney won't stand for it.

Sorry PD, not picking on you. But Kent seems to be the out, not sure Viney is a like for like replacement? (he is for Dom, who seems 50/50). If Dom is deemed fit to play, would you have both he and Viney?

Nice one. DD .

Highlighted above was my first thought to the "  Spargo being bullied "  angle. This team isn't the 2000 GF team. Contested possession leaders. Geelong are the ones who should be worried.

the elim. final is mandatory for Spargo's development and last week again cool under pressure and personally set up 2 important goals during the game.

I can't see the argument for Spargo out and Garlett in. We've been suggesting this week after week this season and I'd just find it surprising if that idea was trotted out now.

Pardon the pun Layzie but it's lazy posters who don't actually watch the game. Their justification is like for like small forwards.

Spargo uses the ball well runs to provide options, pressure and second efforts.

For mine Viney and Hannan in for Kent and JKH

Tyson has been good whilst JV has been out and I expect the Cats to put S.Selwood on Clarrie. With JV back in we can send Clarrie forward a bit more to expose Selwood. Harmes to Danger and we back ourselves to go head to head with the other mids.

Win the clearances and deliver inside 50 like we have neen of late and we win

Thought Spargo was down for a couple of weeks but lifted this week and played well.

He is going nowhere.

Agree on the ins, Viney and Hannan.

Can't see them risking Tyson and JKH who played ok will stay.

If we win,Tyson may press for a return.

Will be interesting to see what they do with S Selwood - they seem to use him a bit as their pressure forward of late with reasonable success... but surely they would want him in the centre stopping Oliver or Brayshaw

Re Scott Selwood, he’s changed role and played as a defensive forward with good success in the later half of the season. I suspect he’ll man Hibberd or Lewis down back to limit our rebound potential.

Clarry will have a huge game. Can’t wait to see him and Brayshaw on the big stage!

I think they will look to using Selwood as a run with player and not let Clarrie run free

From what I've seen he his a strong and tough player. Height means nothing, it is your heart. Flesh and bone is the same for everyone. Maybe weight has some say but he is a solid build. I have seen him take them on and not take a back step. Probably underestimated through the juniors as well. The smaller mans ego. Agility, speed and getting his shoulder into their ribs (perfect height for this). He can hurt them. Go Spargs. If they target him, I believe it will urge him on.

If they take Tyson in then it won't be a risk 'Red'...

Different matter if he had a leg or shoulder problem but if the plate has done it's job then he will be 100%.

If it effects his ball handling at all in training then he doesn't play.

This one should be an easy yes or no unlike a bit of a dodgy hammy...

Love a good pun!

I know most of us would say Garlett is a best 22 player when on song but its too simplistic a view right now. Spargo really showed his value in the last game. Hannan comes in and I think we're alright up forward.

Well I will change my wording to can’t see them “playing”Tyson against the Cats.

However, as you said if he is 100% they will play him. I don’t think he will be. Hope I am wrong as he has found his form again.

With Tyson's improved form as of late, would him getting up for the game be as good as what I think it should be? Or are other supporters in the same camp of it being much of a muchness if he's fit or not?

Not quite the Geelong way. Laughing and pointing to his head after kicking the goal is the Geelong way.

When playing I used to say to my teammates, "you don't run on your hands"...it was back when we thought we were tough and it would need to be a pretty serious upper body injury to keep you out.

Harmes & Oliver have both played within days of hand surgery, so who knows how that compares to this.' @Webber' our resident physio might have a bit more info.

Apparently the big issue for Dom is the pain management side.

Will be an interesting selection.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
