I believe it can be detected in urine sample 2-4 days and if your a heavy consistent user as long as 14 days. Can also depend on dosage and purity with detection 3 weeks later being not uncommon.

First AFL will say (correctly) "we can't do anything until the B sample is in"

Then when the B sample comes in positive, the AFL say "season's over, we can't do nuffin about it! (dammit) (whew)"

Depends on what testing method they use. It will be detected in the hair much longer than in urine.

Hence the reason Ben Cousins shaved every hair off his head and body.

What about fingernails?

Given fingernails are made up of keratin fibres then yes it’s technically possible.

Maybe they don’t test nails because it’s posslbe the person being tested unknowingly touched something which contained the illicit substance. If you received a handball from Sam Murray there’s a chance you’d end up with Cocaine on your hands. See Locards theory.

Benny needed his nails to scratch his meth sores.

Guh I thought that was funny at the time... now I just have vision of him off his banana on the glass barbie plucking every hair off his body.

It's his 21st next week. Wow imagine what sort of party he would have.

But I don't get why players take the risk and I bet he would have been a 1 in a million chance to be tested.

Hope so. Guilty as charged

Given this is his first year at the Pies it poses an interesting question. In a trade scenario, is the 'buying' club given any information regarding how many drug strikes a player has?

Listening to Macquarie Sports Radio this morning where there was a staggering amount of sympathy offered based around the excuse "he is a 20 year old boy". My counters are:

1. He is a professional sportsman so how many times would the no drugs in sport policies have been rammed home?

2. In my experience, it would be exceedingly rare that a drug user be caught on their very first occasion.

I wonder whether this is going to have an effect on the rest of the Collingwood team?

It definitely has to be a distraction but once the players get onto the field it probably won’t effect them.

Collingwood by 40 points.

The reason WADA (&ASADA) have such harsh penalties is so that excuses such as "he is young, therefore an innocent baby", "it's only a little bit performance enhancing", "I didn't know, the doctor gave it to me", "I didn't take it, I must have stood next to someone on the train who did" ... would not wash.

Otherwise every athlete would be out there taking stuff, knowing they had a free get out jail card. "Doc gave it to me. Thanks for the gold medal and the sponsorships."

WADA took away the get out of jail card. It's the only way it can work. Kid gets 2 years, so sorry.

Pffft I knew at a much younger age not to take drugs and I had no club to guide me and provide trainings etc.

age is not an excuse, 20 is an “adult”

No, having one too many pints and acting like a peanut in Brunswick St warrants the excuse of "He is a 20 year old boy". You do it, you blew it.

Reports today suggest this mofo tested positive for Cocaine...? Somebody please tell me there is something else involved here because cocaine hard strikes me as being a performance enhancer in anything on the football field though I accept it may be useful in other areas.

If detected on game day an illicit substance is considered a PED under ASADA and WADA guidelines. Apart from other side effects, it’s a strong stimulant.

WADA took away the get out of jail card. It's the only way it can work. Kid gets 2 years, so sorry.

A necessary strict liability and harsh punishment for the Olympics, which happens every 4 years and has global implications. Olympians sign up and sacrifice for that to be the best in the world.

Sam Murray is a 20 year old kid who's about the 30th best player on the Pies list. Maybe the 400th best player in a sport that is played by just over half of one small country. He's worked hard to get drafted and get to a second club and get some opportunities to play. He's well rewarded for that in terms of money, but he's not representing his country and isn't on the global stage.

The AFL has had one major PED scandal in Essendon. They caught the club and instigators. And despite hardly overwhelming evidence and seemingly little intent they punished the players. Otherwise there's only been a handful of others who have flirted with PEDs.

There's no intent from Murray. There's no real damage done to results. There's no gold medal falsely awarded. He rightly suffers deep shame. Giving him any more than about 6 months is just using the harshness of the WADA code where it doesn't need to apply.

Some people on here seem to think that's good because they've seemingly never made a mistake. Some think drugs are the devil, probably the same people who drink 3 cups of coffee in the morning and a bottle of wine at night. Some are jealous of the money AFL Players make. Some just want to punish him for his stupidity. Not me. I'd give him 6 weeks just to [censored] of those on their high horses.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
