Melksham a no-show tonight.

Need a big second half from him.

Hate mentioning it...does Chunk EVER look where he's kicking ?? Ffs ...kills momentum and effort

He's a great clubman and has 4000 bad kick credits in the tank

I do not have a good feeling about this.

As I said earlier, a tight contest will see the crowd and the umpires get Geelong the win.

Effort is definitely there, but we are again wasteful which we really can’t afford. And our backline is so suspect. We need to not break even but actually start to dominate clearances if we are going to win.

Gus stood up that quarter.

Bernie and Smith off HB great pressure

you wouldn’t want to be Hogan. 3-1 every time!

we are playing better than Geelong, just need to keep up the pressure, Hogan has to get moving and needs to chase, he is a lazy football, who seems to figure once his jumped for the mark he does not need to do anything else.  Tyson needs to learn how to handball, seems like he is trying to do some clary jump and handball over the player moves that are just not working out, he keeps loosing the ball.

Another half like the first with straighter kicking and we will win this one.

Careful Danger...your in Harmes way..

Harmes really needs to lift.

Trac very good. 7 contested possessions in the fwd line is big

We are still long bombing into the forward 50. Doesn't work on the narrow Geelong ground. LOWER THE EYES!

It's also partly an issue because by the looks of it we are letting them have a man loose in defence from the bounce. Just about every time we move the hall forward from a centre clearance we turn it over due to poor disposal or being out numbered. I'd like to see Goodwin back our mids and make Geelongs defenders accountable. We need to make more of our inside 50s yet again.

He just drives ball 4ward he'd be more if he looked 4 options

Doing everything except finishing our hard work inside 50. So frustrating because it feels like the Dees are continually going to explode, only to kick to Hogan, TMac or Petracca who have 2 opponents. I feel we are far the better side but wasteful (again!).

And hardly a free !!

It's not even subtle...

Being held off the ball as well.

I'm just constantly gushing at Clayton Oliver. Just the little things he does is AMAZING!

That, and everything else.

And our leading tackler.

Bernie, Smith, Frost and Salem have been solid down back.

Need to keep the pressure up and use the baller better going into our forward 50.

JKH more bad than good tonight.

  • REPORT: Port Adelaide

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.
