I just don’t think it’s fair to the draftees and their families to drag it out. Well done Dilliton/Gill

No SWYL Burt style would be risky - I'm well into the Shiraz.

Adagio would be more accurate.

Smart thinking Bitters

those grinders are very unforgiving!!

Adelaide just traded out the pick they got from us for Lever and their 2019 1st rounder, to Carlton for their 2019 1st round pick (around pick 1 to 4)

Carlton obviously very keen to get Stocker from Sandringham.

Lots of pick movement going on - wonder what Mahoney and Taylor are thinking tonight, now that we have slipped down the order!  They might be manning the phones overnight!

Wow. Carlton trade their future 1st rounder for 19 and Adelaide future 1st rounder. Could well have traded #1 next year for 19 and 10+

I just turned the draft broadcast on ...and off. FMD that is possibly the most boring and laborious shite I've seen on television.

I' m going back to angle grinding the  tinea off my toes.

I had the draft radio on... and turned it off & the telly back on.   boring as...  batshyte.

Any picks of the tinea, Bbo.  it would be more interesting than this draft, so far.

Crazy by the Blues, don’t they realise there still shizen?

I've probably got a couple of inside mids burbling away down there.

The Crows and Blues have an ugly little lovebird trist going on, ever since Betts and Gibbs days.

Brisbane going down our path of inside bulls.

Don't grind them too close Beebo, we might want them down the track.

That trade of Syd 2019 2nd round pick (around 30+) for WCe pick 24 explains the earlier lop-sided trade that greatly favoured WCE.

We still have pick 23, one ahead of Sydney so may get our preferred player.

Very clever of Sydney to do this after Blakey was selected otherwise they would have had to use pick 24 for him!!  They are very active and creative with pick trading - they may catch a few clubs napping!!

Edit: cross out ref to Syd pick

Sydney are masters of this. They’ll take O’Halloran, I know it.

According to the MFC website, clubs were told by the AFL that they had to use their entire 5 minute time allocation before selecting first round picks tonight.

The rest of the draft (commencing at noon tomorrow) the picks can be announced as fast as the clubs want to announce them. Indication again that the AFL has NFI.

GWS got in before them. :(

So what number are our first 2 picks now and who's still available for them? Anyone got a decent list?

Ian Hill is available, he provides a lot of run and spark, so too is Bailey Williams and Jack Bytel.

We've been pushed out to 26 & 31 for the moment, but that might change with likely bids on Will Kelly, Kieren Briggs and Rhylee West.

This has too be the worst draft night in the history of VFL/AFL history?

The whole AFL should be sacked.

How is that Syd/wce action not draft tampering?  Park a second rounder at wce, so bundle lower picks, then trade it straight back after the lower picks have been used.  How is this fair or in the spirit of the draft?  I know it cost them a later round downgrade next year, but this means they get Blakey and a second rounder for peanuts.

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

  • POSTGAME: West Coast

Following a disastrous 0–5 start to the season, the Demons have now made it three wins in a row, cruising past a lacklustre West Coast side on their own turf. Skipper Max Gawn was once again at his dominant best, delivering another ruck masterclass to lead the way.

  • GAMEDAY: West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have a chance to notch up their third consecutive win — something they haven’t done since Round 5, 2024. But to do it, they’ll need to exorcise the Demons of last year’s disastrous trip out West. Can the Dees continue their momentum, right the wrongs of that fateful clash, and take another step up the ladder on the road to redemption?
