At last we do get one great game on prime time.  Gil will be congratulating himself on the scheduling.

How good is Daisy Pearce!? That comment about Richmond’s defensive set up was more helpful and insightful than anything that other commentators would say tonight

Lingy sweating!?

Rance should be playing in Russia!

Could he lead the Socceroos rebuild?

Cotchin has turned himself into a gun, his ability to find space in close and release a teammate is top shelf.

Never gets caught with the ball and runs a day.

Ditto on that....needs to bring some venom and mongrel and hit packs for the marking attempt and belt in to some contests like Reiwoldt.  Can be as good or better at some point if he wants it badly enough.

That was an unbelievably  seriously lucky bounce

Followed by a seriously good snap goal

Hard to beat now

Bruce is so hard to listen to.

Vlaustin is at the peak of his powers... great to watch him peaking...

Can't stand listening to Bruce when he's at his breathless worst like tonight. The only thing that would make it worse would be if he were calling Cyril or Eddie.

Wait until the encore tomorrow PD if he calls the game. Ablett, Selwood and Danger. Oh Boy!!

Great game tonight. Tigers deserved the win as they held their structures better than the Swans.

Typical Rance game. Flopped around like a fish and lost every contest he went near. As usual the commentators didn't say a negative word about him though other than his losses and mistakes were "uncharacteristic". He's an overrated soft [censored].

Cotchin on the other hand has developed into a brilliant player. He was always more outside ball user, but the past 2 years he's really lifted his intensity and physicality and he just always leads his players from the front and sets the standard. Great to watch.

I was at the game tonight. The most noticeable thing IMO was Richmond's structures.

They almost permanently left someone (often Martin or Riewoldt) deep forward. As in, within the forward 50 when the ball was at the other end of the ground. At midfield stoppages they would have 5-6 players set up well forward of the ball. It forced Sydney to keep their defenders in their backline and not up at the contest and that gave Richmond space to break away from stoppages.

It was intriguing, and IMO proof that we don't necessarily need to change the rules or bring in zones to get around congestion.

Tiges will be one of the teams in the GF. Who knows for the other, but on tonight's showing, not sure it matters.

Cats 08 and Pies 11 repeat is on the cards

Was out dining with family and friends last night but the venue had a sports bar nearby and a couple of sneaky visits had.

What i saw is what we need to be...abd we're nowhere near it yet. May or may not be heading in right direction but we're quite some distance from what i saw Richmond doing.

Good luck to them

Over to you MFC

Since we beat WC last season to cap off 4 straight wins, we haven’t been close in big high pressure games. The rot starting with the Swans game immediately after WC. That game exposed us and we haven’t made a yelp since. There seems to be a low limit to how hard our player will fight. Hope to be proved wrong come finals time.

An upset tonight is not out of the question and would be a huge help to the Demons.  The Doggies were much better last week, only lost to North in the last 30 seconds.

im not even sure so much it's about how hard our blokes will fight, though at times you might wonder if a limiter/governor has somehow been implanted. it just seems to me some teams are far more switched on/alert when the pressure goes into the red zone.

Mention has been made of structures. Structures are NOT, I repeat not a player decision. They are a COACH"S area of influence. That and the strategist.  We have some good ideas and structures for a specific style of game. Once any influence of them has been exhausted by a team with a BETTER set of structures our all go 'poof' into thin air  and we are steering aimlessly thereafter whilst the opposition runs riot.

Damo has been around the block a few times. He's learnt considerably. He's managed to groom/grow a few of his charges ( to say the least ) into a formidable troupe. The result...they have an understanding of what to do with the ball...and WHEN that far outreaches the scope of our team and our BOX.

If Simon truly wants to develop both himself, our list and our 'brand'/ style  he might fair far worse than lock himself ( and his fellow gurus ) in a room and watch ALL of Richmonds games. He might truly learn something useful...both about how they tear teams new orifices and how occasionally someone gets the better of them.

As Bing181 suggest...he is one Grand Finalist....who's the other ?  who knows other than to say it's NOT us by a country mile !!

Bit like Richie on the 12th Man with Ray,

Hackett! Thorpe! Thorpe! Hackett! Going stroke for stroke.

Is it just me or is Cameron Ling the worst commentator going around? No wonder ratings are down. Bruce has lost the plot and every comment is followed by "don't you think" "isn't he" or "aye" - it's cringeworthy.

Oh and Rance is getting found out to be the dog and [censored] he is.

Hard to say really - Ling has some decent competitors for worst - BT, Derwyne, Brooose (though he at least once was amongst the best)

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.

Salem proved to be a valuable contributor as a reliable and solid one-on-one medium-sized defender in what was undoubtedly his most impressive season since the premiership year. He remains a highly capable rebounding option for the Demons as he approaches his 200th game at the club.
