Don't see the point in discussing players we have NO hope of getting.

They would burn down the Pies training centre if he left.

Should definitely try to get de Goey just to see your second sentence come true.

He just met with Carlton and his manager and wants to stay at Blues and help lead them out of trouble, going nowhere.

"No go, Murph. I've sniffed around and no one wants a piece of you. Only club to show anything was Gold Coast."

"And they're just as scheiss as us! So I'm stuck here then?"

"Not stuck, Mark. Don't say stuck. Say, you want to stay here and help lead them out of trouble."

"I'll be dead by then!"

"Yeah, probably. But try to drag that part out a bit, I still want my management fees."

Carlton owe us - and big time. They got Ron Barassi, Greg Wells & Earl Spalding . We got Vin Catoggio and a couple of 'could be's' who quickly showed they were 'won't be's'.

We don't need broken down 29 year olds.

Aim high - we're a club of destination - chase the big names who are in their prime.

C'mon, don't forget,,, they gave us premiership player Michael Young !   pretty face 'n' all.

I couldn’t have seen any other interested parties. Carlton are going to be down the bottom for a long time.

One positive with him staying is that it adds an extra year or two of them being down the bottom.

It's bloody magnificent.

Murphy is a highly skilled player who uses the ball really well.

Would be a terrific 17-22 player for the Demons, provided he wasn’t required to do grunt work for 22 weeks!

Anyway sounds like it won’t happen, so we move on!

As an alternative, let’s take Gaff!

Phil Pinnell!

On the other hand, we gave them Sean Charles.  Broke his leg in his one and only game for them, poor bloke.

Peter Rohde? Unless there was a Phil?

Peter Rohde was a good pickup, one of the few. Tried hard for the MFC.

We did have a Phil Rhoden who only played a handful of games in the 60s I think.

Phil Rhodes was a workmanlike utility who played for Alexander the Great. Career statistics: 3 Thracians, 2 Persians, 4 Cappadocians. Delisted after the battle of Bactria where he copped a bad knee injury, and concussion. Tried for an assistant coach job with the Babylonian army but was forced to resign after a salary cap scandal. An honest trier, remembered fondly.

It is safe to say that he is definitely going nowhere if he remains at the Blues

Point taken!

If I recall correctly, his son was truly a colossus.

And I thought he was a scholar, silly me.

Mods - the title of this thread reads as if a fait accompli

How about either putting “how about” at the start or some ???? at the end???

The Athenians tried recruiting him under father-son but quickly found he lacked the mobility for the modern game. "He was like a bloody statue", said his coach. "Jason Cloke would have done a better job."
