Delisting, Trade and FA discussion 2018

WCE had plenty of opportunity to draft Kelly. He was playing under their noses for years. He may have had a break out year prior to being drafted but even then the Cats took him with a pick in the 20s.

I am with the Cats on this one. Do you're 2 years son, then we'll get you home.

Irrespective, Scott is still a [censored]....

If he has another good year that won't help much if he insists on going to WCE because try as they might they won't have the picks to offer.  It's hard to see how they can offer much more next year than they did this year.

Freo might have a new coach which could change his tune on going there and the Eagles could put a first and a future first on the table which is the going rate for a gun player. That might be much better than 19 and 20 or whatever it was this year.

How do you think Hogan would have played next year if Melbourne blocked his return “home”?

Hogan clearly wanted to go “home”.

This massively lowers his value to MFC and his trade value.

We did well to get what we did.

If Hogan was a Free Agent this year, what type compensation would we be looking at?

Some interesting delisted players out there. I don't mind the idea of having Weller on a one year deal as depth.

Hugh Goddard interests me. Doesn't really fill a direct need but was had a hard run with injuries. A one year deal to see if he can get his body right would be worth it. He is an endurance player that could still develop.

Delisted players I have the absolute smallest of interest in:

Cory Gregson - has the talent but terrible injury run
Jed Lamb - would be his 4th team, he's mostly crap but maybe he's the latest of late maturers? There's something about him that could work in a good team, not sure if I'm crazy or not
Darren meatball Michington - pressure forward type who has a crack
Declan Mountford - tagger who's got just a little class and toe
Jon O'Rourke - not sure he's hearts in it but his athleticism is still there
Nathan Mullenger-McHugh - great name! Also he's super raw and athletic

Mav "strabismus" Weller - love him!

Great photo potential.

Interesting that Beams took most of the money in his front loaded contract with Brisbane and then suddenly wants out. No wonder they were so pizzed off and wanted 2 x first rounders in return

I wonder if Hogan's contract with us was back loaded. If so, we might be saving a pretty penny in our SC next year

Mav Weller at the Dees would do no good for his confidence. Imagine every time the captain, Jack Viney, walks into the locker room and sees him, he'll break out in fits of laughter, probably even throw in his Fortnite dance for good measure.

Either way, if we do get Weller, we know his nickname. 'The Fend'

Not really any decent delisted free agents this year. Best of the lot is our very own Bugg who would surely be playing in a number of other teams. He’d legitimately be in the top 10 players at Carlton and Gold Coast.

Weller grew up in Burnie, Tasmania.  Hard to believe he even knew who Jack Viney was.

I heard Viney say it on one of those gameday footy shows when they replayed his tackle on him.

I have no reason to doubt him, but by all means you're welcome to try and prove it wrong.

Mitch Honeychurch remains unsigned. He is mostly an outside midfielder and played 13 games in 2018.

Is he worthy of  DFA spot?

Not that much I'd think if him taking unders money wise is really true.

I think it's possible we could have got more for him next year.  He wouldn't have had this foot injury thing hanging over him potententually devaluing him, could have had a huge year and kicked 60+ goals.  My view is if things had fallen trade wise and he stayed he could have been pretty motivated by finals and sucess, assuming we continued on our upward trend.  There may also have been more competition from West Coast for his services if he was really still determined to get back.  In a lot of ways, it was possibly not such a good time to trade him.

...but it's all water under the bridge now, so no use crying over spilt milk.

    DERAILMENT by KC from Casey

It wasn’t quite a trainwreck although at times, it sure looked like one, so I’ll settle for “derailment”.  The trip to Brighton Homes Arena in Springfield outside the back of Brisbane might not exactly be the same place where Homer Simpson’s family resides but, if you listened closely to the utterances of the Casey Demons fans both at the ground or watching via livestream, you could hear lots of groaning and plenty of expressions of “D'oh!” reverberating in the background, particular

TEN YEARS AFTER by Whispering Jack

Things have changed in the more than ten years since the West Coast Eagles decimated Melbourne by 93 points on the MCG early in the 2014 season. The two sides had not met at the home of football in the interim until yesterday when Melbourne won by a comfortable 54 points to remain in contention for this year’s finals series. Back in those days, the Demons were in the midst of their Great Depression but they have since tasted premiership glory and experienced a long enough period among

GAMEDAY: Rd 17 vs West Coast

It’s game day and the Demons return to Melbourne to play the Eagles at the MCG for the first time in over a decade. A win keeps the Dees finals hopes alive whereas a loss will almost certainly slam the finals window shut.

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well
